JANUARY 2018 NEWSLETTER

PRESIDENT

Anita Dinicola

Happy New Year

I wish you peace deep within....

Joy and serenity with each sunrise

Sunsets that hold happy memories of a day that was

pure gold

Wishes of good health, loving family, caring friends

Love that never ends

Memories of yesterday that are special...with a

bright path for tomorrow

Dreams of hope, comfort and tranquility that will

come true … and appreciate the wonderful things

about you.

New Year’s Resolutions do not cross my mind

anymore. I don’t recall keeping any for more than a

week, so why bother? I have a goal though for 2018, at least until June. It is to continue doing my

best for TWC and members.

A new year brings forth reports. Yes, these are the

“dreaded deeds of clubs 1st Vice President,” except

TWC. Our 1st. VP, Barbara, writes with an

established, committed, determined hand. Thank you, Barbara, for your dedication to report writing.

Thank you to the December Chairmen of Holiday

Bazaar, Barnes and Noble and Stuff the Bus.

The members that worked so diligently filling in

the places and spaces, many thanks. We are hard

workers and our enthusiasm, eagerness and energy

comes through when the numbers add up in the

reports.... And.....the AWARDS!

In the following months we look forward to writing,

craft, photo and art contests. The young musician’s

contest is around the corner. If you know a

musically talented young person please see Char

Kyes

My last wish for this new year is a Blessing. (It is

defined as an approval, favor or protection.)

Please protect us from sadness, bad health or injury.

Keep away unkindness and hostility. Be courteous

and respectful to each other.

Lastly, thanks for your support and encouragement.

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT

Barbara Freeman

I hope you all are enjoying the Holiday Season.

This has been a hard time for me and I want you to

know how much I appreciate the members of our

fine club. Even if I didnʼt answer the phone when

you called or returned your email messages I know

you were there surrounding me with caring

thoughts. Jeremyʼs death has shaken my world and

you have helped me to continue on. He knew many

of you in the club, Lou who always invited him to

the pancake breakfast at her church, Beverly who

Jeremy knew helped me so much when Ken died by

including me every Thursday for dinner and tile

rummy, Jeaninne for always making him laugh and

giving him a ride to the airport when he came home

for my second shoulder surgery (donʼt know what

route she was taking but when he asked “Which

way are you going” she answered “ We are bobbing

and weaving), Mary Linn for all the fun Palm

Desert outings I would tell him about and the list

goes on and on. He knew most of you and

appreciated what you contributed to the club and

my life. He didnʼt hesitate a few years ago in very

hot weather when I was doing the fashion show and

asked “Can you wear your shirt, tie and suit and

escort the ladies? His answer was “of course I

will”.

Now for district news: The next Marina District

meeting is January 19th at the Redondo Beach Club

House. Our District fund raiser, Bus Trip To

Historic Ventura is January 23rd and is $20.00.

This will be a fun day so I hope TWC members will

be participating. A heads up for the February

District Meeting which is on February 23rd at the El

Segundo Womanʼs Club and is also the Crafts

Contest. Contact Bette Herbst for information.

Thanks to all who turned in your report hours,

dollars and inkind.

SECOND VP/MEMBERSHIP

Sharon Saffer and Claudeene Lyon

Hope you enjoyed the holidays! As we welcome in

the New Year we also have welcomed eight new

members to celebrate with us. Our newest member

is Carolyn Paley who was introduced at the

meet these extraordinary women who just like you

want to make a difference in our community.

A new year brings new opportunities for TWC to

grow our club by inviting friends, neighbors, sisters

and daughters to be members of this generous and

giving club.

Our mentor program is doing well. We will host a

tea for new members on January 24th at noon.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and joyous new

year.

Wasn't the December display colorful and inviting?

So many members donated homemade treats and

items for sale. We are fortunate to have so many

talented, creative, and generous members in our

club.

For new members, monies raised from the bazaar

go towards scholarships awarded by the club in the

spring.

The Scholarship fund was enriched by $1003.00!

That, plus the earnings from November, make a

total of $1753.00!!! Thank you again, Pam Ament,

Linda Eisenbart and Cindy Wall

HELPING HANDS

Marilyn Keller Pat Green

Another year is almost over. All of you should be

proud of all the wonderful things you have done to

help others to have a better year. There have been

so many tragedies this year with fire, floods,

hurricanes & tornadoes. TWC has done much to

help. Thank you to all the new ladies who have

supported the Helping Hands program.

We delivered fifty cuddle blankets to Rainbow

Services for abused women & children. Sixty

Huggie Bears were given to Little Company of

Mary Hospital & fifty to Torrance Memorial

Medical Center. They were all very happy &

appreciative. January we will be doing the Sole

Hope Project again. Pat Green will be leading all

the ladies that enjoy this.

We would like to encourage those who crochet or

would like to learn to come & see what they can do.

We welcome everyone to come to Helping Hands.

We meet the third Wednesday from 10:00 AM till

12;00 Noon. It is a good to meet new people and let

A Wonderful Life:

Irma Chiota

Bella Chiota went to Doggie Heaven to play with

her doggie cousins, Georgia, Tina, "Noodle" and

Sampson on Dec 15, 2017. As many of you know,

Bella was a Torrance Memorial Hospital Therapy

Dog for almost 10 years, some had personal visits

with her. Bob and Bella have been to our own

Torrance Woman’s Club, Redondo Beach and El

Segundo Clubs along with a Woman’s Club in PV

telling about how to become a Therapy Dog

volunteer and the joys that came along with it. She

had a wonderful and giving life and gave love to all

she met.

The picture is of Bella in her Volunteer uniform of a

Blue Scarf and her Official Badge. This picture was

used on her "Business cards" at the hospital to make

her an official VOLUNTEER. LOL
