‘Twas the nite before STAAR’

We all knew these by heart,Numbers of highlighters, organizers, calculators

& charts.

Clock on the wall, to mark start time and end,Once it was announced to begin!

Daylight appeared bringing to pass,Accommodations, small groups, rest-breaks and

scores to surpass!

Silence engulfs hallways throughout,“2 hours to go” a voice finally shouts.

Tension builds as the minutes accrue,Monitoring non-stop, restful are few.

Lo and behold, 240 ticks come to a close,“All pencils down!” booms echoes, all froze.

Waiting’s the game from Spring until Fall,STAARs will continue 3 years for all!

time and ending time.• Start time begins when students start question # 1.• Every room has to have a clock students can see.• Orally or in writing on board – remind students of

• Standards will be set for a three year period.• Students will be scored under the standards

measure that begin with 9th grade and follow them thru 10th and 11th grade.

• 10th grade will be used for AYP this year, does that mean 11th grade will be used in 2012-2013?

• ELL participation guidelines should be published soon. Will there be changes?

• Transition from paper/pencil to on-line administration?
