Ohio is facing a critical shortage of educators prepared to meet the uniqueneeds of learners with visual impairments, leaving a large population ofstudents without access to services. ln response to this personnel need, theryl Colla borative-with the contributions of national experts as well asinstitutions of higher education, regional providers, and districts from acrossthe state-has crafted a rigorous program featuring a common curriculumto be delivered collaboratively by five Ohio institutions of higher educationthrough online coursework complemented by extensive field experience. This consortium model creates multiple access points to professionalpreparation around the state, allowing participants to remain in theirrespective a reas of Ohio during the program experience, and in return, serveas an lS:Vl in Ohio (perthe terms of a three-year service agreement requiredof participants receiving tuition support). Ultimately, the Collaborative aimsto increase the number of lS:Vl teachers as efficiently as possible whilefacilitating the more equitable distribution of quality personnel resourcesacross Ohio.
