Australia’s richest racing carnivalScone Race Club is gearing up for another bumper race carnival which kicks off on Friday 13th May with the Emirates Park Scone Cup Race Day and follows on with the Inglis Guineas/Darley Dark Jewel Race Day on Saturday 14th May 2016. Eight races are set for each day and more than $2 million in prize money is on offer. All indications are that there will be big nominations with some high profile horses intending to run.

The ever competitive Fashions in the Field events will also be taking place with a business class trip to New Zealand on offer for the winner. Marquee ticket sales have been strong and are likely to sell out.

General entry tickets are in plentiful supply and available at the gate but pre-purchasing guarantees express entry. Buses will also run to transport people to and from the event.

St Joseph’s High School’s annual Scottish dance sets the all-purpose hall a swirl with tartan tinged Scottish thingsOnce again, St Joseph’s High School’s Parents & Friends committee held their annual Scottish themed ‘Celtic Fling’ in the All-Purpose Hall at the school in Aberdeen on Saturday 30 April.

It was also an opportunity for the newly formed St Joseph’s Pipes & Drums band to perform a demonstration in front of a live audience. Some of the high schools students recently took up the task of learning the drums and bagpipes which were generously donated by the Paradice Family of Scone.

If you missed out and are keen to experience a true slice of Scotland then the annual Aberdeen Highland Games Ceilidh will be held on Saturday 2 July at St Joseph’s High School, Aberdeen.

You can book tickets to the Ceilidh on www.aberdeenhighlandgames.com and follow the links to Trybooking it or alternatively you can book through the Scone Visitor Information Centre on 02 6540 1300.

Steve Austin visits Pet MedicalThis week we had world-renowned dog trainer Steve Austin come to Pet Medical for a 2-day training course.Steve has been training dogs for over 30 years for canine detection for narcotics, pest control, explosive detection and conservation. His most famous recent project was the eradication of rabbits on Macquarie Island, which they achieved using a team of dogs and handlers all trained by Steve.

Staff members April, Emma and Bec learned an enormous amount from Steve to assist with puppy training and behaviour, adolescent and adult dog training, dealing with problems encountered at home, and most importantly, teaching owners how to communicate effectively with their dogs.

Steve uses an errorless learning method. The trainer uses small steps of success to achieve an ultimate goal. Dogs learn much quicker if they are achieving the goals we set for them. Pet Medical want to create a love of learning within the dog, to achieve this we use the 5 principles that motivate all dogs:

1. Success breeds success; 2. Clarity in direction; 3. Positive reinforcement; 4. Consistency; 5. Raising the criteria and standard each time.

Pet Medical are very excited to be using this knew training method and can’t wait to see how they can help their clients animals using this technique.

Stay tuned for updates about puppy classes, adolescent and adult classes. If you have any questions about your dogs behaviour, please call Pet Medical on 02 6541 1555. Image: Steve Austin at the team at Pet Medical.

MUSWELLBROOK CINEMA MOVIE REVIEW

Bastille Day is a 2016 American action film directed by James Watkins and written by Andrew Baldwin. The film stars Idris Elba, Richard Madden, Charlotte Le Bon, Eriq Ebouaney and José Garcia.

The story follows Michael Mason (Madden), an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself hunted by the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Elba), the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale conspiracy. The two work together to track down the source of the corruption over a 24-hour period during which they discover they are both targets and must rely upon each other in order to take down a common enemy.
