Design requirements:
Luminaire: Nikkon AL25400 M0400 6407 c/w EYE IWASAKI MF400X/U lamp
Lux level: 300 lux
Mounting height: 8.5m
Room dimension: 48m (L) x 20m (W) x 13m (H)

2. Edit the Length, Width and Height according to the values stated in Figure 2 and click on OK
button.

3. The slope of the roof is given at 25° and sloping on both directions (Gable roof). Calculations is
done as following:
Length of roof (in one direction) = 10 m
Slope of roof = 25°
Length of a = 10 (tan 25°), tan = tangent in geometry terms
= 4.663m

4. Click on Object tab in Project Manager, then select Room elements Sloped ceiling. From the
previous calculation, we have determined then length (10m), width (length of the room = 48m)
and height (length of a) of the sloped ceiling. Insert the values as shown in Figure 3 and click on
Paste.

14. Conduct some simple calculation to determine the number of luminaires to be used.
Size of the room: 48m (L) x 20m (W)
Mounting height: 8.5m
To start, assume the spacing between luminaires to be the same as mounting height.
In the x-direction, we will have 48m of space. Dividing 48 by 8.5, we will have 5.65. Round it up
to 5 numbers of 8.5m of spacing gives of 6 luminaires in the x-direction.
In the y-direction, divide 20 by 8.5 will give us 2.35. This will mean 3 numbers of luminaires in
the y-direction.
15. Click on the Mounting tab and put in the values as shown in Figure 15.

17. Click on Paste button to see the arrangement. Note that the arrangement is too near to the
walls of the room in the y-direction.

21. You could also click on False Color Display icon for a clearer indication of the lighting output
from the luminaire on the roadway. The numbers can be edited to show a clearer picture of the
lighting level on road surface.

22. To view the lighting level in numbers, click on the Output tab in Project Manager. Click on the
“+” sign beside Room 1, followed by Room Surfaces, Floor and Value Chart (E).

23. The numbers in the box shown in Figure 24 indicates the lux level on that particular spot of the
roadway. The abbreviation on the sheet is as follow:
Eav - Average lux level
Emin - Minimum lux level
Emax - Maximum lux level
u0 - Uniformity

24. Finally, the results can be generated as a PDF document or printed out. You can select the
results to be generated/printed by checking the box next to the options (Figure 24).

25. You can then create a custom project cover page by clicking on the Project tab under Project
Manager. Then click on Project 1. Under the Project tab, edit the Name and Description for the
Project. Name will be the project’s name and Description will consist of the luminaire being
chosen to use for this particular project and its revision (eg. Rev 00 for a new project, Rev 01 for
the first revision).
