P&C News

A huge thank you for all those helped to make the

Antique Car Club Lunch a success. Helpers were

involved in moving furniture, cooking, serving, deco-

rating, setting up and packing away. Numerous com-

pliments were received from our guests regarding the

warm welcome, tropical ambience and delicious food.

Well done everyone! This was our final fundraising

event for the year. Our last meeting this term will be

held on Tuesday 26th November at 7.00pm.

Tweed Small Schools Choir

My Trip to Sydney—by Trixie Meeves

I flew to Sydney with my dad on Saturday 19th October

to attend the 2013 Tweed Small Schools Choir.

When we were there we caught the ferry to Taronga Zoo and saw thousands of jellyfish. We travelled under the Harbour Bridge and caught a glimpse of the Opera House, where I would be singing. It was celebrating its 40 year birthday. At Taronga Zoo my dad and I went on the Gondola 11 times and got a fantastic view of the city skyline and the animals beneath us – lucky we didn’t fall into the lion enclosure!

With the Small Schools Choir we visited Elizabeth Farm Cottage, Australia oldest homestead which was a working farm for convicts. We went back in time and were all given our own costumes, names, crimes, accents, sentence, former jobs and education. My name was Eliza Brown and I stole underpants so I was deported to Australia to be a convict for seven years! It was an interesting history lesson. Afterwards we travelled to Hyde Park Barracks designed by the convict Francis Greenway. It held 15,000 male convicts and was an asylum for the insane. Just after that we went on a guided tour of The Rocks. To cap it all off we walked along the Harbour Bridge and got a great view of the city.

The highlight was the choral performance of 700 children from schools in NSW in the famous concert hall of the Opera House, together with an orchestra.

Thanks to Mrs Vicki Armour and her assistants for all their patience and hard work in giving me the opportunity to be involved in such a fantastic event.
