1. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).

2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

3. Describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areasof immediate need clearly.

The course is for those who have completed Marugoto Elementary 2 A2 Module 1, or those who have an equivalent background in Nihongo, and are interested in further developing their Japanese language proficiency and understanding of the Japanese culture. Communicative Language Activity (Katsudoo) and Communicative Language Competence (Rikai) books are provided. Marugoto A2-2 is divided into three modules. (This level is almost the same level with Minna no Nihongo II.)

The Japan Foundation has been developing course books to embody the JF Standard for Japanese‐Language Education and to use them for Japa‐nese language courses in JF overseas centers. ‘MARUGOTO: Japanese language and Culture A1’, the first book of the series, was published in May 2011. Aiming at Japanese‐language for mutual under‐standing, ‘Marugoto’ is designed for learning not only the Japanese language but Japanese cul‐ture as well. Grammar and writing of Japanese character will not be the main focus of the course.
