TRANSCRIPT
Tuesdays with Morrie A potentially life changing project
The Work
PART A: The first steps: Introspection and self realization (20 marks)
1) Make a list of things that you consider important in your life today (3-5 items).
Select and explain 2 or 3 of these items as you see them.
2) Make a list of things that you consider will be important in your life in the future
(3-5 items). Select and explain 2 or 3 of these items as you see them. Discuss
and explain why/how the two lists are/are not the same.
3) Looking at both of these lists, make a list of things that you would like to know
more about, but are reluctant to ask or do not know who to ask.
Length: one to two pages, double spaced.
PART B: The purpose: Having an impact and making a difference in life; yours or
others (50 marks).
Format: essay (complete with introduction and conclusion, thesis and topic sentences).
Length: in the three (full) to five page range, typed (1.5 spacing).
Possible areas in which you can conduct your ‘life’ project:
1) Do something for yourself
2) Do something for your family
3) Do something for your school
4) Do something for your community
You only need to select and work on one. But if you feel like venturing into other areas,
by all means, feel free.
The process: Steps in realizing this project
◊ If done, what was done, why was it done? Explain the process and the end result. Be
original, doing like others is substitution for actively living
You are to talk of the process: what was the purpose of the selection, conflicts
encountered during the process, the desired results and the results obtained. Length for
this part will be relevant to work done.
If unable to do something for these components, what would you like to have done?
Discuss and explain why it was not done, considering the same aforementioned steps of
the process.
PART C: The wrap-up and literary considerations (30 marks)
What quotes or ideas expressed by Morrie struck you the most? Write them down (3 to
5) and detail your reflection on these (a few lines, 3 to 5, for each).
◊ Because ours is a class that studies not only what is written, but also how it is written,
offer an identification of various literary devices or figures of speech (numbering 20) that
you noticed throughout the work. Your work here should consist in using quotation
marks, page number, and an appropriate identification (type of imagery, simile,
metaphor…)
Important Information
Given the nature of the novel and the work, your mark will be affected by genuine effort
put forth to accomplish the work. If you fail to make time for yourself, your family, your
school or your community, either in thought or in action, you have failed yourself and
have cheated yourself and others out of the richness and significance you can have in this
world.
