Friday 26th February 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hoping that you are all keeping safe and well and that this week has gone

well for you all? The milder weather, the news that the Coronavirus alert level

is going down to 4 and schools re-opening on 8th March provides some

positivity - let’s hope that this is the beginning of the road to recovery.

News and Reminders

Returning to school on Monday 8th March.

I have sent two letters this week re this subject – one on Tuesday giving you

the ‘headlines’ and one this morning with the finer details of timings, the

school day, lunch arrangements etc. Please read them carefully and make

sure that you are fully prepared for Monday 8th March with clean uniform,

and all school reading books, home learning books and any school

technology that you have borrowed ready by Sunday 7th March. The

teachers will be reminding children on their daily Zoom calls but please talk to

your children to help prepare them too. It must be hard for them to make

sense of everything that has happened during the last year, so it is really

important that we allow them time to process that they will be returning to

the routines of school.

World Book Day 2021

Next week is World Book

Day and we have a

number of activities

planned throughout the

week to celebrate reading

and stories.

Your teacher will explain about the daily themes for our Book Week, but I

wanted to comment on the themes for two of the days:

Tuesday 2nd March- Reading Challenge

Please send in a photo of your children reading a favourite book as part of

our ‘Reading Challenge’ on Tuesday 2nd March and we will tweet some of

the images. As part of a wider project, we will also send the images to

contribute to The Children’s Book Project film. (See below)

Friday 5th March: Dress up as a book character

As we have done for many years, we will ask children to dress up next Friday

as a book character for their Zoom Calls. Please do not spend lots of money –

even a hat might depict a character very easily. We look forward to seeing

lots of book characters next Friday- on Zooms and in school!

Internet Safety Poster Competition

Ciara has launched an exciting new competition in

which one child from KS1 and one child from KS2 can

WIN a brand-new LAPTOP

We are asking KS1 and KS2 to design a poster highlighting one or more of the

following:

How to stay safe online How to deal with cyberbullying How to use social media appropriately.

Your poster should contain a catchy slogan and be submitted via Seesaw or

as a hardcopy by Friday 12th of March.

P.S. Don’t forget to write your name and year group on the poster!

This is an amazing opportunity - don’t miss out!

Breakfast Club and Extended Club

The Government announced on Monday that schools can reopen to all

pupils from Monday 8th March under strict risk assessments and guidance. The

opening of schools includes the provision of opening our Breakfast Club and

Extended Club.

Due to the strict Covid restrictions we will need to ensure that bubbles are

maintained and this will involve increasing the staffing level to meet our risk

obligations. Extra staff will incur extra cost to the school and we have had no

alternative but to slightly increase the daily amount of Extended Club to £4

from 3.15pm-4.30pm and £8 from 3.15pm – 5.45pm. Breakfast club will be £10

per child per week.

All children must be registered with each club to attend. If your child

previously attended Extended Club or Breakfast Club they will have a space

reserved. You must contact us if your child has never attended and you wish

them to.

For Extended Club, to book a place for your child please contact the school

office or email [email protected] and pay in advance for the

space otherwise your child/children may not be able to attend.

For Breakfast Club you must have booked a space with Michele in advance

and pay weekly in advance either in the school office or via the App.

It is very important that we know numbers of children attending in order to

provide the right level of staffing each day.

Thank you for your understanding.

Might Matt

Unfortunately, Matt will be unable to run any on-line sports challenges next

week but please keep challenging yourself. See if you can think of a

challenge for Matt when you return to school, keep practising it and then

challenge him!

News from the schools

St Anne’s Nursery

We have been completing activities around stories and especially the three

little pigs. The children have been making collage houses with straw, sticks

and bricks.

Page 5: Tuesday-Reading Challenge Wednesday- #readingtogether

5

Aliviah has been able to draw and paint a scene from the story and then tell

us what was happening and we have been welcoming new children. It has

been a great week!

Avondale Park School

Avondale Park School remains closed to all children apart from those of key

workers and those deemed ‘vulnerable’. We have some excellent examples

of learning selected from children at school and at home. Much is also

published on Twitter - please praise your child if their work has been chosen.

Reception

KripaliI has chosen to show Max's learning this week as he has been working

hard with his mum to complete Seesaw and workbook tasks daily. This week,

he has been learning about the lifecycle of a human. He has been observing

photos of himself and learning about the different stages in his life so far - well

done Max!

Year 1

Y1 are enjoying

their new

Science unit

'The Animal

have been

learning about

living things,

different types

of animals and

what animals

eat.

Year 2

This week Year 2 have been learning about habitats. They have been

exploring the desert, woodlands, pond and even the Savannah! They have

identified the organisms that live there and the simple food chain. Both at

home and school, the children were set the task of creating a ‘Bug Hotel’, the

perfect habitat for mini beasts and insects. The children used an old plastic

bottle, collected leaves and twigs and built their microhabitat. Once finished

they left them in the garden or on their balcony to see if they have any bugs

check into their hotel!

Year 3

In RE we have been learning all about

Islam. Today we have been exploring

where Muslims worship. Well done to

Qusay for the excellent drawing of a

Mosque!

This week in

English year

three have

been learning

how to use

being verbs in

the past and

present tense

Well done

Khadija for

submitting such

a clear and

neat piece of

work!

In Maths we have been splitting shapes

and manipulatives into equal parts to

help us understand fractions. Well done

Miguel for using these beads to help

support his learning!

Year 4

Year 4 have been using different methods to

divide this week: using known number facts,

dividing on a number line and using a brand

new method of short division.

Year 4 have impressed the adults with how

they have persevered and completed

good quality learning using these methods,

especially the short division.

Examples of learning this week are by

Maya, Nadir, Ruzgar, Yasmin and Zaynab.

Year 5

This week Year 5 have been learning about

lots of different scientists throughout

history. It has been fascinating to discover

how varied their work has been and the

impact their discoveries has had on our own

lives. Here is some of the research that

Amirah and Raqeia have completed.

Inspired by Rachel Carson, a marine

biologist, the children wrote a letter to

their local MP to urge them to take

action to save the planet. Sarah wrote

this letter in school about the impact

of plastic pollution.

Year 6

In Year 6 this week, Pixie designed and created her vision of a sustainable

building for the future. We were so impressed with her 3d modelling skills – she

even created a working lift as part of her design! Well done Pixie.

Children attending Zooms and submitting learning Below are the figures of children in each class attending Zoom and submitting

learning for this week. Overall, figures have dropped which is really

disappointing. Please remember, that next week will be our last week

completing remote learning but you are still expected to be joining Zooms

and completing and submitting learning on-line. The class in each key stage

with the best attendance and submission of learning combined will be

choosing a treat at some point before the end of term. I have included the

totals for last half term so that you can check who you need to beat!

Keeping safe

Keeping you and your family Covid-19 safe

Please remember that if any family member is displaying one of the three symptoms

of Covid-19 of a new, continuous cough, a temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius or

above or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste they should take a test

for Covid and family members in the same bubble should also stay at home until

the test result comes back. If the test is positive, family members need to self-

isolate at home for 10 days.

Please follow the rules of the national lockdown.

We have been asked to remind our community that we must still remain

vigilant and take extra precautions. We are in a national lockdown so you

must stay at home unless essential. This means you can go out once a day for

exercise, for essential shopping, for medical appointments, if you are a key

worker or if you are bringing your child to school. Other than this, you should

stay at home.

Please do all that you can to keep you, your family and our community safe.

Important

If any child who has been in school this week tests positive for Covid – please

inform school via [email protected] as we will need to report the case

and inform the year group bubble.

And finally…

Thank you again for your support during these difficult times. We look forward

to seeing you on Monday 8th March, but if you need to contact us in the

meantime, please phone 020 7727 7727 or email [email protected].

Best wishes and elbow bumps,

Katy Blackler
