Agree or Disagree1. The prime factorization of 24

would be 2 x 3 x 42. 233 is divisible by 4 because

the numbers add up to 83. The factors of 18 include

1,2,3,6,8, and 184. 63 is divisible by 7 5. Ms. Evans is from Minnesota

Notes from Yesterday

What if we have more than 2 numbers?

Use the slide method!

Do the same steps with three numbers!

Remember to pick a common factor for all 3 numbers!

16, 12 and 24

You Try! a. 24, 32 and 48

b. 120, 100, and 50

Our MissionTo find the

Least Common Multiple

between 2 or more

numbers

Page 11: Tuesday, October 18 th

In your groups….Two faucets are dripping. One

faucet will drip every 4 seconds and the other faucet drips every 9 seconds. If a drop of water falls from both faucets at the same

time, how many seconds will it be before you see the faucets drip at

the same time again?

Did we find the Factor or multiple?

Least Common MultipleWhat does Multiple mean?

Give an example of a multiple of 4

Give an example of a multiple of 18

What would be the least common multiple?

Page 14: Tuesday, October 18 th

Question of the DayWhat should I check

first when finding the least common

multiple?

Page 15: Tuesday, October 18 th

What is it?Least Common Multiple- is

the least (smallest) of the common multiples of two or more numbers

*When finding the LCM you should always look to see if your largest

number is the LCM

Page 16: Tuesday, October 18 th

There are 2 methods to finding the LCM

Method #1The Listing Method

Page 17: Tuesday, October 18 th

Steps 1. List the first couple multiples of each number in order

2. If you do not have a common multiple, you need to keep listing multiples until you do.

3. If you do have a common multiple, the smallest one is your LCM

Let’s try together!Find the LCM of 18 and 241. 18: 36, 54, 72 24: 48, 72Common Multiples: 722. The LCM is 72!

Page 19: Tuesday, October 18 th

You Try! Find the LCM of each set of

numbers 1. 6 and 102. 3 and 4 3. 2 and 7

Method #2

The Slide Method

Page 21: Tuesday, October 18 th

The “Slide” method- The slide method helps us break numbers down by looking at common factors. It is very helpful for finding LCM

Page 22: Tuesday, October 18 th

Steps to Slide Method 1. Begin by looking at your

two numbers- identify a common factor

2. Write the Common factor to the left, outside your “slide”

3. Divide all numbers by the common factor, and write them below the slide.

4. Look at your quotients from step 3- do you have any common factors? If so repeat steps 2 and 3 until the quotients have no factors in common- it can take as many steps as you need to get there.

5. To find the GCF, multiply all the common factors (the numbers to the left outside the slide)

6. To find the LCM, multiple all the common factors and the numbers on the bottom (all the numbers on the left outside the slide, and underneath the slide- it looks like a large L
