Job
Trusting In Tribulation
Job 23:10 “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall
come forth as gold.”
We are ALL in One of THREE
positions in life…
Going into a storm…Going into a storm…
In a storm…In a storm…
Coming out of a storm…Coming out of a storm…
In the Book of Job we see the a Man who made
it through the storm.
In the Book of Job we see the a Man who made
it through the storm.
Our Theme of this short look at his life is found
in…Job 23:10 “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall
come forth as gold.”
A Song I want you to hear is a theme song. It is called
“Rejoice in the Lord” by Ron Hamilton
-That is theme that runs through the short study into the life of Job.
-God has a purpose in permitting trials to come into our lives.
In these trials we need to just God as he leads us to triumph over these trials because he is always with us.
Matthew 5:45 says “That ye may be the children of your
Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil
and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
It often fells like we are the only ones going through the fire in some part of our life.
I have learned this…
I know God is with us in trials and we can trust him while I am going through these problems.
I may not understand them… I may not ever like them… I may never be glad that the
problems have come…
I many never agree with God that these problems or trials have come…
But, I am never alone and I must just trust the Lord with whatever it is we are going through. There are no less then 46 verse that that say we can trust in the Lord.
2 Samuel 22:13; Psalm 4:5; Psalm 11:1-7
Psalm 18:2 “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
The word Buckler is the Hebrew Word “Magen” — A shield or protector or a Defense! That is whom we trust.
There is Jeremiah 17:7 and Psalm 20:7 and 37:5 the there is
Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”
The word Refuge is the Hebrew word “Machacheh” meaning a hope, a place of Shelter.
Remember 1Peter 1:7 “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”
Our reading of this study is…
Job 23:8-12 “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”
I. TESTIMONY
Read with me Job 1:1 “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.”
This was God view of Job. Not man’s, not Job’s God’s View.
We really don’t know what Job thought of himself or what others thought. God said
he was Perfect - Upright - feared God - eschewed evil.
A. PERFECT and UPRIGHT Job was living a life before all the God said was Perfect - Meaning, complete; plain; undefiled
Upright - meaning, straight un mingled with wrong, sin or prevision.
B. FEARED God
Feared God - meaning, morally upright, reverencing (respecting) God as God.
Then concept of fearing the Lord deals with respecting God for who and what He is and that we are His creation and He is not our creation. He has the power over all and I respect him for all he is and all he has and will do. Jobe did this and it pleased God,
C. Eschewed EVIL
Eschewed in Hebrew is the word Cuwr pronounced Soor, meaning to turn down, to decline to depart, to leave undone.
Job had realized in his life, that God was to be follow and not himself. So he choose to do right and not wrong.
James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” He was one minded. ‘I will do what God has said not what I have decided is best for myself.’
Look with me in Job 1:7 “And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
Job 1:8 “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”
Psalm 97:10 “Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.”
Hebrews 1:9 “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”
II. TRIALS
God himself, bring Job up to Satan and asks Satan if he has noticed what type of man he was.
Satan in 9-11 respond to God then Verse 12
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Nothing happened to Job that God did not first approve.
Again in Job 2:2-5 God brings Job up to Satan. Satan says If you'd this to him he would turn form you…
Job 2:4-5 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
So Trials came.
What all happened.
A. FINANCIAL Trials Job 1:13-17
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
C. PHYSICAL Trials
Job 2:7-10
These are devastating individually, but to all come at the same time is unspeakable.
Notice Satan knew how to do his best to hurt Job.
REMEMBER, God approved these things before they happened and he was there to see Job thought.
A. FINANCIAL Trials Job 1:13-17
Here we see a foreign army come in and destroy Job's possessions, servants and fields.
“The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (vs:17)
A. FINANCIAL Trials
So, all of his servants are gone, crops, lands and he has no way at this point to have a financial future. From being the richest man to having nothing.
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
“…Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead…”
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
I have known many families who have lost child. I have know two that lost most of their children. It is the most difficult thing for a family to go through. Not many have made it through this type tragedy with out destroying more then those who have died.
Just this one trial would be enough to make many of us quit much of our life.
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
I have never lost a child to eternity. I can understand Job cursing the day he was born.
I can understand Mrs. Job’s response to her husband. when she said Job 2:9 “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
She went into the jaws of death ten time to give birth. She loved them. She fed them. She taught them. Her mind was filled with an innumerable number of wonderful memories of each of the children.
She was crushed. I don’t know I would handle this as well as she did.
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
She not only lost her children, she lost her home as well as Job. She lost her income and financial security as well as Job. She was broken and discouraged. Even her husband was so overwhelmed how was he to comfort her.
Great pain and heart break on her part.
A. FINANCIAL Trials Job 1:13-17
B. FAMILY Trials Job 1:18-19
C. PHYSICAL Trials
Job 2:7 “So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.”
C. PHYSICAL Trials
Satan moved to take Job’s health. He took his children, he took his finances then God gives this statement: “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.” Job 2:3
C. PHYSICAL Trials
I can not imagine the personal stress all of this would have placed on the Job family.
I really don’t know if I could have withstood this type of overwhelming trials.
Job was then lectured constantly by what is called in Job 16:2 “I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.”
C. PHYSICAL Trials
Satan moved to take Job’s health. He took his children, he took his finances then God gives this statement: “In all this did not Job sin with his lips.” Job 2:10
God looks at everything we do as we go through problems, he watched carefully as Job went through this time of great trials and tribulation.
God loves us and he will stay by our side as we go through storms of life.
He understands every burden in your heart. He is our good Shepherd and he only allows us as much as we can carry. Just trust the Lord to care for you when we are over whelmed and he will lift you up.
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
III. TRIUMPH Job 42:1
It may seem that the dawn may never come, but with time we will see light once again. Storms do come to an end. It may not be in our time line and we may still wish it never came… But they do end.
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
III. TRIUMPH God has hand crafted you and me. We are HIS workmanship. He has personally designed you and everything in your life. He has individually shaped you, polished you and finished you, that you in your life at this very time would bring glory to God.
Wow, he misses nothing in your life nor mine.
A. ENLIGHTENMENTJob 42:1-6 Lets read this.
Job 42:1-6 Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
In his Triumph, this books author used the word enlightened. This means he learned something from these trials and heart aches he went through.
There is always things we can learn from what comes into our lives. From the good and the bad. Are we able to see as we go through them (good and bad) God and his love for us. Sometimes it comes to us by looking at everything, not just the hurt.
Lastly we see B. ENRICHMENTJob 42:12 -13
I don’t like that word. I like the Words the "blessings of God". That is the word we see in scripture.
“So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.”
God restores and blesses Job.
Finances Restored
Family grows and 10 more children are born.
Jobs life did not stay in the storm, and our will not either.
It teaches me…
There is nothing that can not be overcome by God himself.
God has control over everything; Finances Health Death hurt Family Everything.
HE IS FAITHFUL HE IS ALL POWERFUL
HE IS THE ALMIGHTY GOD
Mt 28:18 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
So I will just trust him
Psalm 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Psalm 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
Psalm 115:10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. Psalm 115:11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Psalm 118:9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.
Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
