It is with great pleasure that we provide you with the status of our program as we embrace the 21st Century. Over the past three years, Troy University and specifically the Sorrell College of Business have made significant strides toward our goals of becoming the preeminent business school that is clearly focused on providing students with opportunities for a truly global business education.

Global Business Accreditation

With the decision of the Troy University Board of Trustees in 2005, Troy University became “One Great University,” with teaching sites in 15 U.S. states and a presence in 25 countries outside our borders. The merger of all existing programs across all sites created a seamless University providing students with the opportunity to study under common curriculums, policies and procedures.

In recognition of this new “seamless” University, the Sorrell College requested accreditation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs as a world-wide unit. After two years in preparing self-studies, reports and other documents and a site visit by the ACBSP Review Team, the ACBSP Board of Commissioners in November 2008 voted to award accreditation. For the first time, and under the “One Great University” umbrella, the Sorrell College received national accreditation as one comprehensive unit.

For our Sorrell College of Business students, this means that every option that is available regarding physical location of instruction, chosen business degree program, selected concentration within the degree program and mode of instructional delivery has been subjected to and passed the same rigorous level of peer institutional evaluation.

A Truly International University

Much has been said about business competition in a global environment. Very few business schools have made the commitment that the Sorrell College has to a global infrastructure that facilitates student

engagement in other cultures. The Sorrell College offers degree programs at teaching sites in eight other countries, including Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition, the Sorrell College has partner relationships with universities in many other countries, including Russia and Turkey. Students enrolling at any Troy University site are encour-aged to visit and study at other sites. All programs are taught in English and all programs are under common catalogs—both graduate and undergraduate.

You should look at the Sorrell College as your “window to the world.” You may also be surprised to learn that tuition costs in international sites may even be less than in Alabama.

In this publication, we are highlighting the Sorrell College of Business Montgomery Campus and the School of Accountancy. We hope that you will find the information useful as you consider employing our graduates and for prospective students who are selecting where they will study.

I want to express my great appreciation for the leader-ship and efforts of Dr. Anthony Rhee in providing the guidance, support and direction for the Montgomery Campus and to all of his faculty and staff, affectionately known to us as “Rhee and Company,” for their day-to-day activities.

Vision StatementSorrell College of Business will be the first choice for

higher business education students in their quest to

succeed in a dynamic and global economy. Sorrell

College of Business will create the model for 21st Century

business education and community service.

Mission StatementThrough operations that span the State of Alabama,

the United States and the world, Sorrell College of

Business equips our students with the knowledge,

skills, abilities and competencies to become

organizational and community leaders who make a

difference in the global village and global economy.

Through this endeavor, we serve students, employers,

faculty and Troy University at large, as well as the

local and global communities.

WHY DO SO MANY SUCCESS STORIES START AT THE SORRELL COLLEGE OF BUSINESS?

Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business has a proud tradition of

educating tomorrow’s business leaders. Many colleges say something

similar. But one thing that sets the Sorrell College of Business apart is

that we are also adept at furthering the education of today’s business

leaders.

At the Sorrell College of Business, we have a special, flexible environment

tailored to the needs of nontraditional working students. People whose

careers are already on the upswing, but who are looking for an extra

advantage.

The majority of the Sorrell College of Business’s classes are taught in

the evenings and weekends and they are consolidated into nine-week ses-

sions rather than 16-week semesters. By scheduling our classes in these

ways, we’re helping to make education available to hardworking people.

No wonder the average age of our students is 28 years old.

There are other ways we’ve tailored our educational experience to make

it more accessible to more people. We’ve embraced a variety of delivery

mechanisms that allow students to complete their work at their own

pace in numerous programs. These include traditional resident courses,

live into cable, taped into cable, Internet, Web-enhanced lecture and

more.

Undergraduate majors at the Sorrell College of Business include Accounting,

Finance, General Business, Management, Marketing and more. Graduate

programs include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with several

different concentrations, a Master of Science in Human Resource

Management and a Master of Science in Management, among others.

Once you’ve begun your business education at TROY, you can continue

no matter where in the world your life might take you. There’s a Sorrell

College of Business on every TROY campus, and our eCampus lets you

learn anywhere. And because all Troy University campuses and sites

operate under a single accreditation, all of your courses will transfer

among them without any credits being lost.

So if you’re looking for a business school that delivers consistent excellence

and unparalleled flexibility, look no farther.

Linda M. Browder, SPHR, is the Director of Strategic Place-ment Services, a division of the Wilson Price CPA firm located in Montgomery, Alabama. Ms. Browder is the former Human Resources Director of the Montgomery Advertiser and past President of the Montgomery Chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management. She credits her Troy University MSM degree as an integral part of her continued successful career.

“The Executive MSM Program opened the door to the Directorship of Human Resources at the Montgomery Advertiser and put me on the road to my current position as the Director of Strategic Placement Services, a division of Wilson Price.

“My experience in the Troy Uni- versity executive program was instrumental in taking my mana-gerial skills to the next level due to the excellent curriculum, the expertise of the professors and the support of staff, along with the extensive interaction with fellow students.”

Sorrell Success Story

The ultimate objective of all programs and courses in the Sorrell College of Business is to

prepare our graduates to be successful within our communities. With that in mind, we are

committed to networking with local businesses, organizations and agencies to ensure that we

are aware of their changing needs, making continual improvements to our programs in an effort

to best prepare our graduates to be successful.

In addition to reaching out to individual businesses and organizations in the community, the

Montgomery Campus of the Sorrell College of Business has an Advisory Council comprised

of key leaders in our region. Membership on this council comes from key executives at major

corporations in the area, including Hyundai, Colonial Bank, Regions and WSFA news. Key leaders

from local and regional government organizations, such as the City of Montgomery, City of

Prattville and Montgomery County, also serve on the council. The two major functions of this

council are to 1) provide feedback to the Sorrell College of Business about opportunities for

improvement and 2) maintain ongoing communication about the College of Business plans

and new developments.

Another important facet of community interaction includes events that allow students

to interface with business and community leaders. For example, faculty frequently invite

organizational leaders to deliver guest lectures to students on relevant topics. Major events,

such as a recent lecture by Cynthia Cooper, former WorldCom employee and whistle-blower,

are provided for students and also opened up to the community.

Message From the Associate DeanWe truly live in exciting times. The nature and pace of changes occurring in our business environment are clearly unprecedented. With these changes, many organizations and businesses are con-cerned about ways to survive. However, our approach here on the Montgomery Campus of the Sorrell College of Business is to prepare our students to meet the present needs of their organizations and beyond—to help them thrive in an environ-ment of economic uncertainty and globalization.

I am proud of our College of Business and the progress we are making in developing world-class educational programs. We offer a number of undergraduate and graduate programs here on the Montgomery Campus that are intentionally designed to provide students with up-to-date exposure to the practical realities they will face in the workplace.

Under the Chancellor’s vision and leadership, Troy University reaches out to the world at the same time that today’s busi-nesses produce multinational companies. These multinational companies already operate around The City of Montgomery and the State of Alabama. Our future programs should reflect this trend and practice, as well as help those companies prosper. Importantly, our programs are all designed with the adult, working student in mind.

This is accomplished through courses incorporating a high degree of flexibility, as well as a variety of delivery methods that

include classroom lectures, television courses and courses offered via the Internet.

The foundation of world-class educational programs is dependent on a world-class faculty. We are fortunate to have several world-class scholars as faculty members in our College of Business here on the Montgomery Campus. The faculty repre-sents an eclectic group with terminal degrees granted from first-rate institutions including the Ohio State University, University of Texas, University of Georgia and the University of Florida.

Numerous faculty members are also actively engaged in research and publishing. As a result, our students directly benefit from courses delivered by faculty with cutting-edge knowledge.

There has never been a better time to consider pursuing a busi-ness degree or taking business courses to promote professional development. Our Sorrell College of Business here in Montgomery is poised to offer our students an educational experience that will not only confer personal benefits, but also benefits that will spill over into our community.

The Master of Science in Management is one of the many degree programs we offer. It is a professional program of advanced study in management specifically designed for today’s managers, military leaders and other profes-sionals who possess the potential for advancement and who are seeking a course of study to enhance their careers. The accelerated alternate weekend program format is designed to fit around busy week-day schedules and to enhance degree completion. The occupational diversity of program participants fosters an educational environment in which students benefit from the exchange of ideas and experiences from peers and professors.
