• Passed in 2013, House Bill 5 changed the requirements for a Texas High School Diploma
• If your child will be a freshman in August 2014, they will be on this new diploma plan.
• It also changed the amount of End of Course (STARR) tests students must pass for a diploma. Students must now pass the following tests:

Distinguished Level of
Achievement
A student may earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement by successfully
completing all of the following:
• Four credits in mathematics, including Algebra II
• Four credits in science
• Remaining Foundation requirements
• Requirements for at least one endorsement
Note: A student must earn a Distinguished Level of
Achievement to be eligible for top 10% automatic college
admission in Texas.

Acknowledgements
A student may earn a Performance Acknowledgement for outstanding
performance in:
• Dual Credit Courses—must complete 12 hours of college academic courses
with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; or earn an associates degree
while in high school
• On an AP test—must score a 3 or above on at least one College Board AP
Exam

• On the PSAT, the SAT, or the ACT—
� PSAT--earn a score that qualifies the student for
recognition as a commended scholar or higher or as a
National Hispanic Scholar or as a National Achievement
Scholarship recipient;
� SAT--or earn a combined critical reading and
mathematics score of at least 1250 on the SAT;
� ACT--or earn a composite score on the ACT of 28
(excluding the writing sub score)

Acknowledgements
• Bilingualism and Biliteracy—completing all ELAR
requirements with a minimum GPA of 80 on a 100 point scale;
and satisfy one of the following:
1. Completion of 3 credits within the same foreign or
multiple languages language with a minimum GPA of 80
on a 100-point scale.
2. Earning a nationally or internationally recognized
business or industry certification or perform sufficiently
on an examination to obtain a government-required
credential to practice a profession

Personal Graduation Plan
Students will be given a Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) & Checklist. The
student will an CHOOSE AN ENDORSEMENT then sign and date this
form. Parents need to sign this form as well. This will become a working
document the next four years. If a student chooses to change his/her
endorsement, it will be noted on this form at that time.
Course Request Form
Students will also receive a Freshmen COURSE
REQUEST Form. They will choose 7 courses and an
alternate.
Choice Sheets
We encourage parents and students to discuss course
selections then turn both forms into Advisory Teacher by
Friday, May 10 or before!
