The Toco Toucan has a powerful beak that breaks the eggs it steals from smaller birds. Slide 5 Rainforest Plants and Adaptations Bengal Bamboo adapt by growing tall fast to get air and sunlight. Bougainvillea have drip tips on their leaves to get rid of rushing water when it rains. The plant, Durian get animals to eat its fruit by a sent that tells herbivores that something yummy is near. Then the animals will deposit the seeds. Slide 6 Rainforest Plants and Adaptations (Continued) Strangler Figs, along with the durian, rely on the animals that eat the fruit to deposit the seeds on high branches. Kapok trees have a foul odor that attracts the bats that pollinate it. Slide 7 Environmental Concerns Every year Brazil cuts down trees from the rainforest with an area about the size of Nebraska. 50 million acres of rainforests are cut down each year. When trees are cut down, animals lose shelter and food, endangering more animal and plant species that are alre. Slide 8 Land and Agricultural Uses Logging-Furniture, paper and other wooden products Medicinal plants-Most medicinal plants are found in the tropical rainforest Soil-The soil in the tropical rainforest is acidic and infertile in most places. Other uses-Plants are also collected for cosmetics and food. Slide 9 Tourist Attractions Tourist can enjoy the lush vegetation and unique plants and animals that no other biome has. The Skyrail Rainforest Cable Way located in Cairns, Australia, is a cableway where you can ride in a capsule and tour Cairns tropical regions. The worlds largest rainforest is the Amazon. Brazil makes up 30% of today's tropical rainforests.
