InNovemberandDecemberMurrayState‐Hopkinsville sponsoredandhostedasix‐weekScienceAcademyforgiftedandtalentedstudentsintheCCPS.ThescienceacademywasthefirstofitskindinChristianCounty.MSU‐HsponsoredtheRegionalEducationSummitheldatHopkinsvilleCommunityCollegeinFebruary.MSU‐HsponsorstheCCPSandWorkforceEducationDevelopment'spartner'sinEducationProgrambyprovidingmentoringandotherstudent‐centeredservicestostudentsatMartinLutherKingElementary.MSU‐Hprovidedover35student,facultyandstaffvolunteerstotheschoolforthe2011‐12schoolyear.MSU‐HwillsponsortheTeacherAppreciationBreakfastinAugust2012whichwillbeattendedbyapproximately700K‐12teachersinChristianCounty.MSU‐HcontributestotheChristianCountyRotaryScholarsfundbysponsorshipsduringtheannualrotaryauctioneachApril.

TheTChasworkedwithTracyRobertsandtheRegistrar's Officebysubmittingalistofrecommendedchangestosimplifystudents'abilitytotransfertoMSU.Theplanisto"jointly"submitthislistwiththeRegistrar'sOfficetoacademiccouncilintheearlyfallof2012.

Innovation Developprocessesandimplementtheuseofvirtualdesktopsforadministrativeusersandsupporttheadoptionacrossthecampuscommunity.
Wehavehad4stationsintheISdepartment,1inthe Provostarea,25intheGatehouseTrainingroom,10intheRegistrarsarea,16intheWeaverCenterforStudentAthletesand20machinesrunninginaclassroomenvironmentforatotal76machinesoutsidestudentlabs.Wehaveseennomajorproblemsinanyoftheseareas.

OurnewInstructionalCoordinatorhasbeeninvolvedin3 majoreventsattendedby147facultymembersrepresenting18academicdepartments.Shehasalsoconducted18uniquespecializedworkshopsattendedby256facultymembersrepresenting26departmentsandgiven5separatepresentationsattendedbyatotalof335faculty.Individualfacultyconsultationshavebeenheldwith30uniquefacultymembersrepresenting30uniquedepartments.Alloftheseeffortshaveresultedincontactwithaaggregatetotalof668facultyfrom74academicdepartments.ThesetotalsreflecttheneedforthepositionoftheInstructionalDevelopmentCoordinatorpositionandthedesireforimprovedteachingskillsbythecadreoffacultyatMSU.
CenterforTSM Innovation Move2ormoreresearchproductstothecommercialmarketplace.
Threeresearchproductshavemadeprogresstowardcommercialization.TheMITOCcommunicationscapabilitybecamethefirstresearchproducttobegrantedaproductlicensefromtheUniversity.MurrayStatesignedanagreementwithPrepartedITinOctober2011tocommercializetheMITOC.TheResponderLinkproductreceiveda$50,000grantfromtheKentuckyScienceandTechnologyCorporation(KSTC)tomoveittowardcommercialization.ThegrantwillbecompletedpriortoSeptember30,2012.A$75,000grantwasreceivedfromKSTCtohelpcommercializetheFlyableRadioRepeater.ThisgrantwillbecompletedbyMarch31,2013.

Innovation Completephasetwoof theimplementationofVirtualDesktopSolutionsfortargeteddesktopcomputersacrosscampus.
Thissummer,wearepermanentlyconvertingmostofthe labsovertoVDI,foratotalof71machines.Theonlycentrallabthatwillstayatraditionaldesktoplabisthelibrary(60machines).IssuesunrelatedtothecostorfunctionalityoftheVDIconfigurationdrovethatdecision.Verbaladhocfeedback,aswellassurveys,havebeencompleted,tabulatedandgraphed.Wehaveexceededourtargetof10pilotadministrativeusers.Additionaladministrationsinstallationsarescheduledforthissummer.

TheDRteamisutilizingmultipledatabackupstrategies to driveourrecoverypointlower.Currentlywearelookingata4hourrecoverypointforallbutasmallwindowoftimewheretherecoverypointwouldbelongerduetomonthlypatching.TheDRteamisstillworkingonimprovingourrecoverytime,andcurrentlywebelieveittolessthan1day.Thefunctionalusertestplannedforsummer2012willprovidethefirstevaluationofouruserdocumentation.

Innovation FundsubscriptionsforBloombergFinancialterminals.
TheseterminalswillbeusedintheStateFarmFinancial ServicesResourceCenter,aswellasforteachingandresearchpurposesintheDept.ofEconomicsandFinance,theCollegeofBusinessandtheLibrary.Theeducationaldiscountallowsustopurchasethreeyearlysubscriptions(at$60,000peryearforthe3)andreceiveanadditional9terminals...atotalof12terminalsfor$60,000peryear.Theseterminalswillnotonlyenhancestudentlearning,butwillalsoenhancefacultyresearchandwillgreatlyassistfacultyrecruitingintheDepartment.Inaddition,familiaritywithBloombergwillbeabenefittoourstudentsastheygraduateandbegintheircareers.Thiswillcertainlyopendoorsforourstudentsthatmaynotnowbeavailable.Inaddition,thissubscriptionwilldistinguishMurrayState,whichwillbeoneofthreeUniversitiesintheCommonwealthwiththiscapability.TheCollegeandDept.arecommittedtousingfoundationmoney,aswellasraisingoutsidedollarstohelpwiththecostofthissubscription.ThegoalwouldbetohaveBloombergavailableforthestartofclassesintheSpringof2012.Status:ThisisstillapriorityfortheDept.andCollege...otherfundingsourcesarebeingexaminedalongwithotherphilanthropicsources.Therecurringresourcestreamisproblematicthough.
Excellence EnsureappropriateprocessesinplaceregardingAACSBaccreditation,ACEJMCaccreditation,andtheCOB'sroleinSACSaccreditation.
Ensureanactiveroleforallthreeaccreditations,particularly AACSBwiththeself‐studyreportsrollingthisyeartobesentFall,2012withvisitinSpring,2013andSACS(andtheCOBroleinthat)withself‐studyreportsrollingthisyearandnext,withvisitSpring,2014.ManyintheCOBareinvolvedinbothoftheseaccreditationeffortsandwillcontinuetobeinvolvedensuringsuccess.Status:Accreditationsareingoodshape.TimToddandGerryMuukavisitedwithDeanLindaHadley(ColumbusStateUniversityinGeorgia)lastFall.Thishalf‐daymeetingwasveryproductiveinprovidingDeanHadleyanoverviewforherpendingvisitassheisthechairofouraccreditationteam.Additionally,inJMC,thehiringofanAfricanAmericanfacultywillbesolidlyendorsedbyACEJMCasthiswasanareanotedintheSpring,2010visitinChicagowhenre‐accreditationwasachieved.And,faculty/staffinvolvedintheSACSprocesshavebeenengagedinnumerousreportsandmeetings.Fromthisunderstandingandfeedback,progressisbeingmade.

Innovation IncreaseCollegegrantproductionby10%toprovideoutsidefundstopromoteCollegeinnovationandadditionalCollegeservicestothecommunity.
Overall,grantdollarswerenotincreasedby10%.Thetotal grantdollarsfor2010‐11was$1143,225,whileforthisyearthetotalwasamuchreduced$665,219.Thereductionisduetothelossofseveralstategrants.TheseincludetheGEARUPgrantwheretheCPEfailedtoincludewesternKentuckyinthecontract,thelossofthestatemiddleschoolgrant,andthelossoftheFirstSteps.Thelasttwowerebothstategrantsthatwerenotrenewedbecauseofoverallstatebudgetreductions.Theselosseswillnotbereplacedthroughstatefundingsources,butwillrequireextensivesearchestoseekfederalandprivatesources.
Excellence ImprovePLTscorestomakeprogressinmeetingCPEgoalof18%by2014.
TheCollegeofEducationmettheCPEgoalof18%of studentsscoringatthe85thpercentileonthePLTexam.The18%forthePLTscoreswillneedtobemaintainedsomeasurestoimprovescoreswillremaininplace.

Objective/Timeline:Generateatleastthree interdisciplinaryresearchprojectsthatwillbegindatacollectionduringtheSpring2012semester.Twoprojectsareinprogress,butareabouttwomonthsbehindthetimeline.TheHSHSGoogleDocsplatformhasbeenusedtokeepeveryoneapprisedofprogressandtoinviteotherstoparticipate.1.AcollaborativeprojectincludingDrs.Kleinhans,Chakradhar,andMulleronteamclimateandmultigenerationalisminacademiaisprogressing.Theliteraturereviewiscomplete,thedatacollectioninstrumentshavebeenselectedandtheIRBpaperworkisreadytomoveforward.DatacollectionwillcommenceonceIRBapprovalisgranted.2.TheproposalforaninterdisciplinaryprojectinvolvingDrs.Campbell,Dodd,andMuller(ExerciseScience),andDr.Rice(Nutrition)examiningtheinfluenceofa6‐weekinterventionondiet,exercise,andbodyimageamongoverweightgirlsaged11‐15yearsisreadyforIRBapproval.

Allfivedepartmentsparticipatinginthisinitiativehavenow hadtheirprofessionalengagementcourseproposalsapprovedbyAcademicCouncilforimplementationnextyear.Twodepartments,TheatreandMusic,havealreadybegunsuccessfullyofferingthecourse.Weplantofullyimplementthecoursesintheotherdepartmentsduringthenext1‐2years,andwilldevelopformsandotherresourcesasneeded.

SupporthasbeenprovidedtothedepartmentofIETinitsElectromechanicalEngineeringTechnologyprograminformingapartnershipwithregionalcommunitycolleges(primarilyMadisonvilleCC)tofacilitatethedevelopmentofon‐linecurriculumandincreasethenumberoftransferstudentstotheBSprogramatMSU.Thecurriculumwillincludeacombinationoflivedeliveryon‐sitealongwithdistance‐basedcourses.AdditionalpartnershipswithCC'sinTennesseeandIndiana,aswellaswith4‐yrinstitutionsareenvisionedastheprogramdevelops.Inthisfirstyear,emphasisisonhiringafull‐timelecturerforprogramdevelopmentanddelivery.AfacultylinehasbeensecuredfromthePresident'sofficeinsupportofthisinitiative.Asearchhasbeenconducted,withnoqualifiedcandidates.Thesearchhasbeensuspendedandwillbereopenedinthefall,asacandidatehasbeenidentifiedwhoisabletobegininJanuary,2013.Curriculumdevelopmentistakingplaceatthistime,andtheprogramwillbeputinplaceinthespring2013semester.

Lastyearthedepartmentwasresponsiblefortwopublic talks(thefirstatConstitutionDay,wherewebroughtintheChairoftheJudiciaryCommitteeoftheKentuckyHouseofRepresentatives,andthesecondwastheWaterfieldLecture,wherewebroughtinthePresidentoftheAmericanBarAssociation).Weneedmoneytobringinoutsidespeakers.Becauseofthiswehavestartedtolooktospeakerswhomaybeinterestingtootherdepartments.IntheFallof2012wearejoiningwithHistorytobringinanoutsidespeaker,whowillgiveageneraleveningtalk,butalsovisitHistory,PoliticalScience,andSociologyclasses.Wehavenotyetsetupadepartmentcolloquium,partlybecauseofthetimepressuresinourdepartment(wehadanumberofjobcandidatesinthisyear).Thisdoesnotseemtobeapressurewhichwillbelowernextsemester.However,wediddiscussorganizingaSocialSciencecolloquiumwithsomeoftheotherSocialSciencedepartmentsinourcollege.Also,weorganizedtwoundergraduatepanelsatScholar'sWeekthisyear,upfromonepaneloverthelastcoupleofyears.

Twelvefacultygavepresentationsontheirnewresearch duringacademicyear2011‐12attheDepartmentofHistoryResearchForum.Thisisupfrom2010‐11wheneightfacultygaveresearchpresentations.Everyfacultymemberwhoneededdepartmentdiscretionaryfundingtosupportresearchtravelwasfunded.Thisamountedtotenfaculty.ProfessorsPizzoandCallahan,needingtocompletepeer‐reviewedarticlesforpublicationbeforetheirtenureyearin2012‐13,wereabletosuccessfullycompletetheseinnovativepublications.TheStrieterHistoryFacultyResearchAward,establishedinMay2011,andwhichwillbefullyendowedinsummer2012,willeventuallyenablefacultytohavecoursereleasetimetocarryontheirscholarlyresearch.

Toassistinthedevelopmentofthisarticulationwith Madisonvilleandtheothercommunitycollege,thefacultyintheMSUElectromechanicalprogramcompletedaninternalarticulationanandcomprehensivecompetencydevelopmentforeverycourseintheEMTprogram.ThesecompetenciesweresharedwiththefacultyfromMadisonvilleCommunityCollegebecausetheirAIIT(AdvancedIntegratedIndustrialTechnology)programmostcloselyarticulateswithMSU'sEMTprogram.SeveralmeetingswithMadisonvilleCommunityCollegetookplaceinthe2011‐12academicyeartomorecloselyalignthetwoprograms.AmeetingwithWesternKentuckyUniversity,MurrayStateUniversityand8communitycollegestookplaceinthefallof2011tosharewiththecommunitycollegestheideaofthis2+2initiative.AfacultypositionfortheEMTprogram,specificallytoworkwiththis2+2initiativewasadvertisedinthespringof2012.Duetothemulti‐skillednatureoftheEMTprogram,noapplicantswerequalifiedfortheposition;therefore,thesearchwasclosed.ExpecttobefilledbyJanuary2013.

ArecentarticleintheChronicleofHigherEducationfocused ontheimperativeofstudentslearningtheskillssetsvaluedbyindustry.Indevelopingcoursecontenttodeliversuchvalue,wemustfocusourresourcesonthecorrectareasifwearetostrengthenandnurturetheregionweserve.Thearticlecitedaboveprovidesanexample(SnapOnTools)whichclearlypointstotheneedforfosteringrelationshipsthataremorediscipline‐based,asopposedtogeneral.Thedevelopmentofdiscipline‐basedspeakersbureauisagoodtoolforbuildingpersonalrelationshipsamongfaculty,alumniandareabusinesses.Uponwordthatthisgoalhasbeenselected,thefollowingactivitieswilltakeplace(andthusmakeuptheprogressreport'scontent):facultyliaisonchosen(apointpersonformanagingcontacts);developmentofmarketingmaterialstorecruitspeakersandtoshowcaseourareasofexpertise,databaseforcontactingsourcesofpotentialspeakerse.g.,(alumni,localbusinesses,professionalassociations);facultypresentationstolocalgroups,speakerswhoaddressedstudentgroups,classes,etc.Thisinnovationcantieusmorecloselytogetherwithentitiesinourserviceregionand,throughouralumni,beyond.Status:Thisprojectwasnotpursuedasnonewfundingwasidentified.

Foundingof“MSU ToastmastersClubattheCollegeofBusiness”
Toastmasterschartersrequireaminimum20members.The planforfoundingtheclubwillbeginbycreatingafoundingteam(1or2facultyclubsponsors)uponwordthatthegoalhasbeenselected.Duringthefirstsemesterafterthissponsorswilldevelopmarketingmaterialsandprogramsforgeneratingawarenessofthenewclubideatoprospectivemembers.Also,Toastmastersprovidesexpertiseingettingnewclubsofftheground.Forexample,clubmentorsareappointedbytheToastmastersdistrictgovernor.Theyprovideguidanceduringthefirstsixmonthstooneyearofthenewclub'sexistence.ThesementorsareexperiencedToastmasterswhomayevenjointhenewclub.Inourprogressreports,wewillnotematerialsdevelopedformarketing;datesonwhichplanningmeetingswereheldandrecruitingpresentationsweregiven;namesofclubfacultysponsorsandmentors;numberofcontactsmade,membershipleveltodate,andscheduledclubactivities.Status:Thisprojectwasnotpursuedasnonewfundingwasidentified;however,thechairandfacultyproponentwillexaminethisintheFall,2012andtrytoseekotherfunding/resourceopportunitiestobeginthisproject.

Innovations WewillprovideassistanceaspossibletoourregionalhighschoolsintheirimplementationofTransitionalMathematicscoursework.
Thirty‐threehighschoolsinWesternKentuckyareinvolved inthisproject.Thisprojectwillaidhighschoolstudentsby(a)showingthemwhatcourseworkinMathematicsisnecessaryfortheirdegreeofinterest,(b)listingtheprerequisiteknowledgeandplacementscoresnecessaryforthosecourses(aswellasthecoursedescriptions),and(c)providingadvisinginformationaboutthesequenceinwhichtotakethecourses.Thisprojectwillaidthesestudentsaswellbyprovidingtheirteacherswith(i)thepreciselearningoutcomesandcoursecontentfora4th‐yearTransitionscoursethatcouldtakethemtocollegereadinessinMathematicsupontheirhighschoolgraduation,and(ii)assistancewithfreeplacementtestingtopre‐certifythestudentascollegereadyinMathematicsforanypost‐secondaryinstitutioninKentucky.Finally,for5schoolsinneed,studenttextbookswerepurchasedforuseinfulfillingitem(i)aboveandthereforehelpingtheirstudentsbecomecollege‐readyinMathematics.Eachofthe33highschoolsintheregionreceivedthefollowingpacket:*ThestatewideStudentLearningOutcomesofthetwoDevelopmentalMathematicscourses(onebeingaprerequisitetoaliberalartsmathematicscourse,forthosestudentswhodonothaveatleastaMathACTof19;theotherbeingaprerequisiteforCollegeAlgebraforthosestudentswhodonothaveatleastaMathACTof22).*Onecopyofthetextbookthatwe(MurrayState)areusingforthosetwocourses.*

Aportion ofthe implementation ofthisgoaldepended upon followingadirectivefromtheAdvisingSubcommitteeofthePresidentsCommissiononRetentionandGraduation. SincethatCommissiondidnotreceivefurtherapprovaltomoveforwardonitsissues,suchadirectivewasnotgiven. Thus,wedecidedtowaitondepartmentdiscussionsofadvisinguntilwehadanofficialdirective(ratherthanspendenergyandfindoutthatourtargetwasnotthesameasthatoftheSubcommittee). Wedid,however,discusshowwecouldbetteradvisewithinourpresentadvisingsystem. WealsoworkedtowardbetterinforminghighschoolstudentsoftheMathematicsintheirfuturecollegecareer.Progresstowardmeetingthisgoal:We(i)developedgeneric4‐yearadvisingsheetsforthevariousprogramsinourdepartment;(ii)discussedtheinformalsequencingofcertainclassesinthemajorforwhichthereisnotprerequisitesequencingandhavemadealladvisorsawareofthispreferredsequencing;(iii)developedadvisingsheetsforallenteringFreshmen(andtheiradvisors)whichindicate(baseduponthecoursestheyneedfortheirmajorandtheircurrentplacementstatus)whichcoursesthatstudentsshouldfirstregisterin;theseadvisingsheetsalsoindicatetheflowofMathematicscourseworkwhichfollowthisfirstcourse,andtheyalsodrawattentiontothenewKYOTEplacementtesting;(iv)postedthesematerialsonourdepartmentwebpageunder"AdvisingInformation",aswellasontheBlackBoardMSUAdvisingshell;(v)madeavailabletoMathematicsteachers.

Innovation TheDepartmentofMusicwillprepare andpresentamusicrecruitingshow(“RecruitmentExtravaganza”)fortheRacerMarchingBandtotaketohighschoolsandspecialHSevents(marchingshows,statemusiceducationconferences,etc.);linkedtoMusicDepartment’snewin‐statetuitionscholarshipforout‐of‐statemusicstudents.Bonus:WiderexposureofMurrayStateUniversityinregionalmarkets;attractsallmajors,notjustmusicmajors.
Thisgoaldidnotgetoffthegroundinitsoriginalformdue tolackoffunding.ItisimpossibletomovetheRacerMarchingBandwithoutalargetravelbudget.Initsplace,thedepartmentdidallocateasignificantamountofmoney($28,000)fortherecruitingeffortsofindividualfacultymembers,smallerensembles,andtwomajortrips‐‐theConcertChoirtoMemphisandtheJazzOrchestratoSt.Louis.Wecandocumentadirectcorrelationbetweentheschoolsvisitedandthenumberofapplicantsfromthoseschools.Toachievemoredirectcontactswithprospectivestudents,wearegoingtoneedthefundingfortravel.
Excellence InordertoattractalargergroupofstudentstotheMusicBusinessdegreeatMSU,theDepartmentofMusicwillcreateanewdegreetrackthatdoesnotrequireanentrancemusicaudition.Thatis,studentsapplyingtotheprogramwillbeacceptedonthebasisofGPAandACT/SATscores,notonmusicalability.Whilethisopensthedoortomorestudents,italsonecessitatesmusicinstruction(basicmusictheorycourses,basicpianoclasses,expandingmusicalstylesinperformanceandliterature)forthosestudentsnotseekingtraditionalmusicstudyascurrentlyofferedinthedepartment.Inadditiontotheincreaseinnewstudents,thenewcourseswouldprovidemoreoptionsfornon‐musicmajorparticipationinbasicmusicstudyandwouldpavetheway.
Anewdegreeprogram,aB.S.inMusicBusiness,hasbeen created,proposed,approvedbyMSU'sAcademicCouncil,andisnowservingitstimeontheCPEwebsite.Newclassescreated(andapproved)forthisnewdegreeincludea2‐semesterpianoclass(MUS124‐125),a4‐semesterMusicianshipsequence(MUS109‐110,209‐210),andanEntrepreneurshipclass(MUS440).ThenewdegreecouldbeofferedassoonasSpring2013.Fornow,classesarecoveredbyexistingfaculty.Astheprogramgrows,newfacultywillbeneeded.

1.AnOSHdepartmentfacultymemberattendedthe NationalErgonomicsConferenceandExpositions(fall2012).Thefacultymemberwasabletoobtainideas/suggestionsaboutourproposedergonomicslaboratoryfromavarietyofvendors.Thisalsoresultedinthedonationofergonomicsandbiomechanicalequipmentfrommanyofthevendors.2.TheChairoftheOSHdepartmentreceived$5,000donationsfrombothConAgraFoodsandPeabodyEnergythatareearmarkedforthepurchaseofadditionalergonomicequipmentresourcesanddemonstrationmodels,i.e.,twosteelcaseadjustableworkstations,twoergonomicschairs,twocomputersandavarietyofhands‐onergoequipment.Theequipmenthasbeenorderedandshouldbeinstalledduringsummer2012.TheOSHdepartmentwillbegintoutilizetheergonomicslaboratoryinfall2012forresearch,demonstrationsandhands‐onlearning,particularlyincoursessuchasOSH353PreventionofMusculoskeletalDisordersintheWorkplace,OSH656ErgonomicsandBiomechanics,andOSH663AppliedWorkplaceErgonomics.

Outreach Programthatwouldinvolvethecampuscommunityandsurroundingareas.Inthespringof2012,theDepartmentofSocialWork,CriminalJusticeandGerontologyandtheCollegeofHealthSciencesandHumanServicessponsoredalecturebyIslamicImamfromTennessee.Thelecturewasverywellattendedandbasedonanumberofindicators,itseemstohavebeenwellreceivedbytheaudience—thevastmajorityofwhichwerestudents.Weanticipatecontinuingthislectureseriesintheupcomingacademicyear.

Innovation Initiate“TheatreStudyThroughExperience”(TSTE).TheDepartmentwillsendstudentsandfacultytoaregionalhighschoolforahands‐onseriesofworkshopsandrehearsalsthatwillculminateinaperformanceincludingbothcollegeandhighschoolstudents.
ThepilotprogramforthisgoalwilltakeplaceSeptember7‐9 of2012.TherewereinsufficientfundsavailableattheDepartmentleveltopursuethisgoalduringthe11‐12academicyearbecauseitwasscheduledfortheendofthesemesterinMayof2012.Hopefully,placingthiseventatthebeginningoftheacademicyearwillallowforearlierbudgetaccessforthegoaltoreachcompletion.WhileitisunderstoodthatTripleIplanninggenerallydoesnotallowforgoalstoberepeated,thisgoalwillneedtoberepeatedinthe12‐13TripleIplanningprocessdocument.ThedepartmentfeelsthisisanexcellentrecruitmenttoolaswellasexcellentK‐12regionaloutreach.

ToestablishacommunityoutreachprojectforstudentswithintheVeterinaryTechnologyProgramtoassisttheCCAS(CallowayCountyAnimalShelter)&HumaneSociety.
Part1:DoggieDaySpaFall2011,32studentsinAGR‐332, VeterinaryNursing,participatedin2of3DoggieDaySpasthatwerescheduledforthesemester.AspartoftheAssessment,studentswererequiredtocompleteareportinessayformatonwhytheyfeltthecommunity,thestudentthemselves,andthepatientsbenefitfromtheservicesthatareofferedataneventsuchasDoggieDaySpa.Theessaywastoexplainhowthiseventhelpstobuildskills,whileprovidingapositiveexperienceforthecommunityinregardstoserviceandcreatingpartnerships.Withthedocumentationprovidedbythestudents,theyfeltthatservicesbeingprovidedultimatelyofferedtheutmostcaretothepatientfirst.Beingabletoprovidebasicgroomingcarebroughtattentiontotheanimalinseveralareas,fromskinproblems,earissues,andpossiblenailinjuries.Thesecondareathestudentsaddressedwasincreatingpartnershipswiththeclients,theanimalowners.Studentswereveryappreciativeofbeingabletoexpandtheirknowledgefromtheclassroom,andbringittoeventslikeDoggieDaySpa,andsharewithowners,intheareaofClientEducation.Thisisnotaskillthatcanbetaughtinalaboratoryorclassroom,sostudentswereveryeagertobeabletosharetheirknowledgewithclients,whilealsosupportingthepatientinareassuchasfleaandtickprevention,heartwormprevention,andbasichusbandryquestions.ThethirdareawherestudentsfelttheyhadtremendousbenefitfromparticipationineventssuchasDoggieDaySpa,isskilldevelopment.Studentswereabletoexpandtheirpersonalskilllevelinareassuchasteamwork,communication,clinicalrestraint,andanimalhandling,alongwithpatientgrooming.FortheSpring2012semester,32studentsinAGR‐332,VeterinaryNursing,participatedintheDoggieDaySpathatwasscheduledforthesemester.Eachstudentturnedinawrittenassignmentthatwasverysimilartothefallsemester.Assignmentone:includedthestudent’senhancementofAVMAessentialskillswhichincludedvariousaspectsoftherapeuticbathingandgroomingforthepatient.Assignmenttwowasanessayexplainingthebenefitstheservicesprovidedfortheanimalandcommunity(whichisexplainedindetailstatedabove).Part2:Murray‐CallowayCountyAnimalShelterStudentsinAGR‐332,VeterinaryNursing,weregivenaweeklyscheduletovolunteertheirtimefrom10:00a.m.‐4:00p.m.,MondaythroughFriday.Studentsprovidedbasicmedicalcareandhusbandryinthefollowingareas:bathing,earcleaning,nailtrimming,andphysicalexams.AmasterschedulewascreatedforAGR‐332studentsthatallowedthemtoexpandtheirexposuretocommunityanimalsandimprovetheanimal'swelfare.Therewereatotalof32studentsenrolledinAGR332duringthefall2011semester,22studentsvolunteeredtoassistwiththeShelterproject;moreover,duringthespring2012semesteroutof32students,20studentsvolunteeredtoassistwiththeShelterproject.Therewasahugesupportofstudent

participationforthisopportunityduringthe2semestersweimplementedthecommunityserviceproject.Studentskeptupwithweeklytimecardsandloggedtheirhours,workingapproximately1‐3hoursadayonaverage,alongwithworking1‐2daysperweek.Accordingtothedocumentationreceivedbythestudentswhoparticipatedinthisserviceevent,theyassistedwiththerapeuticbathingandgrooming,earcleaning,nailtrimming,walking,andsocializingtheanimals,asmuchasneeded.Studentsalsoplayedahugeroleinmaintainingacleananddisinfectedfacility,whichhelpedreducethespreadofparasites,alongwithbacterialandviraldiseases.Studentsalsospenttimelesshoursworkingonbehaviormodification,tohelptheanimalsbecomemoreadoptable.Theyworkedwiththedogsandcatstoreversenegativebehavior,andtrytorewardpositiveattitudes,alongwithteachingdogs’simpletask,suchasleashwalking.AccordingtotheCallowayCountyAnimalShelter,havingVeterinaryTechnologyStudentsvolunteeringtheirtimetoassistthemwithtaskreallyseemtomakeadifferencewiththesocialinteractionoftheanimals,thecleanliness,andproperhusbandryofthekennels,clienteducation;moreover,theyhaveaskedustocontinuethisprojectforthenextteachingsemester.

InNovemberof2011,FMbeganprovidingwirelesstablets toshopforemenandselectcrewsandnowhave22inuse.Anadditional10tabletswillbeaddedwithinthenextyear.Overthecourseofthelastyear,customersatisfactiondatahasbeengatheredasaresultofrandomsurveysthataresentouttoworkorderinitiators.Of594surveyssent,84responseshavebeenreceived.Withrespecttotimelinessofworkorders(1beingleasttimelyand5beingmosttimely),theresultswereasfollows:1=4%,2=3%,3=4%,4=16%and5=73%.With89%oftheresponsesbeingtimely(4)ormosttimely(5),wearewithintheexcellentcategoryforworkorderresponsetime.Thisinformationwillbeusedasabaselinetodetermineiffuturemeasurestoimproveefficiencyareeffective.

ExploringtheareasofWellnessintherealmsofPhysical, Mental,SocialandSpiritualintheU.S.incomparisonwithothercountrieswecanseethesimilaritiesanddifferencesofpeople.Thestudentscanlearntoappreciatewhattheyareprovided,butchallengedtoappreciatewhatothersexperienceaswell.Italsoencouragesthemaspeopletobethebesttheycanbeinalloftheseareas.AsMurrayStatehasalargeinternationalpopulationthisisasaddedplus!ProposalstoteachinSpainandScotlandweresubmitted,andaccepted,andpromotedthedatesattheStudyAbroadFairandinclassesthroughtheuseofbrochuresandverbalmeans.ScheduledinthefallforSpainandintheSpringforScotland.WorkedwithMelanieMcCallonoftheStudyAbroadOfficeandtheothertripleadersandteachersregularlyandscheduledclasstimesandflights,transportationandevents.Targetednumberofstudents:20wasachievedfortheSpainclasswhichwentoverWinterBreakandsixfortheScotlandclasssothetotalwas6morethanexpected.TheywerebothwonderfulclasseswithgreatstudentsandIfeelourgoalswereallmet!

TheCollegeandCareerReadiness…InnovationsinEducationSummitwasheldinAlexanderHallatMurrayStateUniversityonJune13.TheSummitwastheculminationofextensiveplanningandworkingpartnershipsduringthe2011‐12year.Over60differentsessionsforteacherswerepresentedthroughoutthedayfocusingoncollegeandcareerreadiness.Approximately250participantsattendedthesessions.Sessionswerealsopresentedforcommunityandbusinessleadersandschooladministrators.Kentucky’sFirstLady,JaneBeshear,andDr.ChairsMcGaughyprovidedkeynoteaddressestothegroup.TheSummitwasfundedbytheTeacherQualityInstituteandagrantfromtheCouncilonPost‐SecondaryEducation.Certificatesforprofessionaldevelopmentactivitiesweregiventoeachparticipant.Eachparticipantfilledoutanevaluationattheendoftheday.Theevaluationsweretalliedandsubmittedtothecommitteemembers.Therewere205participantevaluationsreturned.95%oftheparticipantsevaluatedtheSummitas“relevantandpurposeful.”93%indicatedthatitfurtheredtheirprofessionalgoalsand96%saidthatwhatwaslearnedattheSummitwouldfurtherstudentachievementintheirschoolordistrict.Theplanningcommitteeismeetingtodeterminethenextstepsandfutureplans.TheTeacherQualityInstituteiscommittedtofindingwaystodeliverqualityprofessionaldevelopmenttotheteachersinourserviceregion.

TheTeacherQualityInstitute(TQI)hasbeenavitalpartofassistingregionalschoolsinmeetingtherequirementsofSenateBill1andProgramReviews.DuringtheCollegeandCareerReadinessInnovationsinEducationSummit,TQIfocusedonplanningandpresentingsessionsthatdealtspecificallywithprofessionaldevelopmentinthecontentareasoftheProgramReviews.Regionalteachersseldomhaveanopportunitytoattendprofessionaldevelopmenttargetedtotheirparticularsubject.TheSummitaffordedthoseopportunities,particularlytoteachersintheareaofHumanitiesandFineArts.ParticipantsintheSummitevaluatedtheprogramandthoseareavailableintheCollegeofEducation.TheevaluationswerepositiveandTQIisexploringwaystocontinuethistypeoffocusedprofessionaldevelopment.TQIFacultyScholarsandDistinguishedPractitionersworkedintheregionalserviceareatoprovideprofessionaldevelopmenttoteachersandtoaidinthe

classrooms.TQIpersonnelhadcontactwith23highschools,16middleschools,and17elementaryschools.TheTQIstaffhaddirectcontactwithover4,000students.927teachercontactsand115administratorcontactsweremadethroughouttheyear.SomeexemplaryprogramsduringtheyearincludeaprofessionaldevelopmentdaywithscienceteachersinHickmanCounty.Thefocuswasondeveloping,reading,andinterpretinggraphs.ThisisaskillthatstudentshadnotbeensuccessfulwithontheEXPLOREandACTrequiredbySenateBill1.

Staffdidanamazingjobofconductingschoolvisits.Staff andschoolpersonnelwereinconstantcontactregardingparticipantprogress.Wewereunabletoincreaseparticipationatoneofourschools;however,itwasnotfromlackoftrying.Staffwereattheschooltwiceamonthforthreemonths,withnostudentscompletingapplications.Wecurrentlyhave67activestudentswhiledroppingonlytwoduringtheacademicyear.Increasedretentionsignificantly.Schedulesdidnotallowstafftoconducttwoschoolvisitsamonth.Itwaswrittenintothenextgranttorequiretwoschoolvisitsamonth.

Innovation Expandservicesthatassistfreshmenreceiveadvisingtoensurethatallfreshmencreatecareerplan.
Theresultsofthefreshmensurveyandcommutersurvey(SurveyMonkey)wereappliedtodecisionsforimprovementinprograms.Primarybarrierstoparticipationforthecommuterstudentswerethefollowing:work/employment(25%),inconvenientdate/time(75%),andfamilyresponsibilities(50%).Thefreshmensurveyrespondentsweresatisfiedinthefollowingareas:academicadvising(96%),climate(91%),academicandsocialprogramming(95%),andtutoring(98%).Ninety‐threepercentofrespondentssaidthatthestudyskillseminarspreparedthemfortheirmajorcourses.Satisfactionwiththeresidentialexperiencewastiedstronglytosatisfactionwithprogrammingandcommunitydevelopmentinitiativeswhichfacilitatedinteractionbetweenandamongstudents,facultyandstaff.

Fifty‐fivepercentofstudentssaidthattheyweremorelikelytoconsiderthemselvesawareofeventsrelatedtodiversity.From2011to2012,surveydatashowedincreasedagreementthattheWhiteCollegeadministrationleadershipwithrespecttodiversity,socialinclusiveness,andtheresidencehallclimateforunderrepresentedstudentshadimproved.Ninety‐eightpercentofstudentswereveryorsomewhatsatisfiedwiththeBullyFreeZoneseminarsin2011,comparedto94%in2010,includinganincreaseinthepercentagethatreportbeingverysatisfiedfrom42%to46%.Morethan96%ofthestudentssaidthatWhiteCollegeimplementedeffective,measurableprocessestorecruit,retain,andsupportdiversestudents.
WKMS‐FM Innovation WKMSwillcollaboratewithDigitalMediaServicesforinclusionofKETprogrammingonitsradioscheduleaswellasexpandingacontent‐collaborationwithDMS.
WKMSaddedKET'sKentuckyTonight,OnetoOneandConnectionstoitsbroadcastscheduleinJanuary,2012,andwehavereceivedpositivelistenerfeedbackaboutit.WKMSisalsocoveringROMPmusicfestivalinOwensboroJune2012withDMStoseehowfurthercollaborationmightemerge.Wehaveinitiatedapracticeoflivebroadcastingofmusicfestivalperformancesasallowedbyartistrelease,whichisnewforusandmostpublicradiostationsthatmoreoftenrelyonbringingpost‐performancerecordingstoair.
