“You are sealed by the Holy Spirit in baptism, and
marked as Christ’s own forever.” BCP p. 308
Do not sell yourself cheap!
I spend much of my time looking at ways to increase the
importance of a deep spiritual life among Christians. We seem to
have a naturally low estimation of our value in God’s world, and
an even lower expectation of what we can accomplish in the
world. And yet, we are so valuable to God. So valuable that Christ
lived on the earth as one of us, faced and conquered death, ensur-
ing that nothing separates us from God’s love. That heroic action,
celebrated on Easter and every Sunday, tells the story of just how
important we are to God. So valuable that Christ came for us, so
valuable the Holy Spirit is sent to us, so valuable that God works
unceasingly to be in relationship with us.
Why, I wonder, do we as cherished members of God’s
creation live into far less than what God has in store for us? It is as
if we have learned to cast ourselves outside of God’s goodness,
mercy, abundance, healing and restoration. Even so, God—always
the steadfast one—works constantly to stir up our spirits so that we
see as God sees. This month Trinity Episcopal Church invites you
to participate as God stirs up our spirits. Join us as we learn about
and explore God’s role in our finances and the ways that we han-
dle money. Attend a gathering of one of the many ministry groups
and take an active role in serving our church, our community, and
our world. Hold our youth in prayer as they prepare to go on their
mission trip in July. Support adult and youth parishioners making
their declaration of faith during confirmation on May 19. With all
of these actions and the many more available to you this month,
we claim the importance of our spiritual lives. You, beloved one,
are a cherished member of God’s household. Go and live like it!
Grace and peace,
Around $6,500 was raised at the Project SwaziPlay
benefit dinner and silent auction on Saturday, April
27. Trinity acolyte Faith Bruton will be putting these
funds to work this summer to build a playground at St.
Joseph’s School in Swaziland. She will keep us updat-
ed on construction progress!
