TRIDUUM

ASSEMBLY GUIDE TO WORSHIP

Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s SupperGood Friday: Celebration of the Lord’s PassionThe Great Vigil: Easter Vigil of the Lord’s Resurrection

THE EASTER TRIDUUM The Easter Triduum are the holiest and most important liturgical celebrations in the Catholic Church and is the culmination of the entire liturgical year. We are called and challenged to live the Paschal Mystery ( Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection) daily, so we gather as a community to celebrate in the Triduum; the Passover and Passion of Jesus Christ.

By dying and rising, God’s Son broke the bonds of death and was restored to life; as we unite our lives to Christ we too will be lead into the fullness of God’s eternal light!. We experience the three days of the Easter Triduum as one continuous cel-ebration, with three movements: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday.

The Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening marks the end of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Triduum (sunset to sunset, Thursday through Sunday). Our three-day celebration formally ends with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday, though most parishes don’t formally celebrate Evening Prayer at the end of Easter Sunday because of the late hour in which it is prayed. The unitive nature of the three liturgies is underlined by the omission of a concluding rite on Holy Thurs-day and Good Friday, with no formal end or dismissal to our celebration on those evenings…we are, in essence, pushing the “pause” button, as if the liturgies of Holy Thursday and Good Friday are saying to us, “we are not done yet. To be continued.”

You are all urged to make a special effort to participate in all the days of the Triduum, the highpoint of our church’s year. Parents are encouraged to introduce their children to these beautiful celebrations; so come early and sit up front so that your children can see everything that is going on and become engaged in it.

May what you experience in these miraculous three days also help you more fully celebrate the fifty days of our Easter Season, beginning with Easter Sunday and culminating with Pentecost as we continue to celebrate with great joy what Jesus has done for us.

Will you let me be your servant, Let me be as Christ to you;Pray that I may have the grace to Let you be my servant, too.

We are pilgrims on a journey, We are trav’lers on the road;We are here to help each other Walk the mile and bear the load.I will hold the Christ-light for you, In the nighttime of your fear;I will hold my hand out to you, Speak the peace you long to hear.I will weep when you are weeping; When you laugh I’ll laugh with you.I will share your joy and sorrow ‘Til we’ve seen this journey through. When we sing to God in heaven We shall find such harmony,Born of all we’ve known together Of Christ’s love and agony. Will you let me be your servant, Let me be as Christ to you;Pray that I may have the grace to Let you be my servant, too.

The Servant Song

Jesu, Jesu

Dwell Within My Soul

One thing I ask the Lord, to dwell within his house,To live inside, yes, all my days, and behold his beauty.

Hear, O Lord, my cry, be gracious and answer me;Your face, O Lord, do I seek, do not hide your face from me.

In my troubled days, he will shelter me;He will conceal me under cover, and set me on a high place

I believe I shall see the goodness of the Lord..I will wait for the Lord, and take courage.

Song of The Lords Supper

Liturgy of the Eucharist

PreparationWe place upon your table a gleaming cloth of white: the weavingof our stories, the fabric of our lives; the dreams of those before us,the ancient hopeful cries, the promise of our future:our needing and our nurture lie here before our eyes.

We come to your feast; we come to your feast:The young and the old, the frightened, the bold, the greatest and the least. We come to your feast, we come to your feast with the fruit of our lands and the work of our hands, we come to your feast.

We place upon your table a humble loaf of bread: the gift of field and hillside, the grain by which we’re fed; we come to taste the presence of him on whom we feed, to strengthen and connect us, to challenge and correct us, to love in word and deed.

We place upon your table a simple cup of wine: the fruit of human labor, the gift of sun and vine; we come to taste the presence of him we claim as Lord, his dying and his living , his leading and his giving, his love in cup out poured.

We gather ‘round your table, we pause within our quest, we stand beside our neighbors, we name the stranger “guest.” The feast is spread before us; you bid us come and dine: in blessing we’ll uncover, in sharing we’ll discover your substance and your sign.

Let us rejoice in him,and in our love and care for all now love God in return. In true communion let us gather. May all divisions ceaseand in their place be Christ the Lord, our risen Prince of Peace.May we who gather at this table to share the bread of lifebecome a sacrament of love, your healing touch, O Christ. For those in need make us your mercy, for those oppressed, your might.Make us, your Church, a holy sign of justice and new life.May we one day behold your glory and see you face to face, rejoicing with the saints of God to sing eternal praise.

Passion Responses

O My People

Help me forgive myself; help me to lift the cross I’ve laid upon my soul. Help me look at myself through your eyes, to see all I am and still be satisfied. Help me forgive myself.

Within my secrets, Jesus, there you reside. And I need you to reconcile to renew all that’s inside. If people want to love you. then with your love, Jesus, I must love myself humbly, too.

You are all I am not. You are all that I am. Break down these walls, take all my brokenness,

Rebuild me to shelter your name.

Were You There

Jesus, Remember MeJesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.

Be StillBe still, my love, know that I am God.Be still, my love, know that I am God.

The mountains shake, the waters roar, the valleys tremble with fear, and yet our strength, our refuge sure, whispers in our ear:

Though nations fight, though kingdoms fall, though spiteful hearts will harm, your mercy hold us,we hear your call, we linger in your resting arms, as you say:

Behold the works our God has done to change these hearts of stone.God breaks our arrows, God breaks our bows,God calls us chosen, calls us God’s own, saying:

PreparationLong before the mountains came to be, and the land and sea, and stars of the night. Through the endless seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be.

In ev’ry age, O God, you have been our refuge. In ev’ry age, O God, you have been our hope.

Destiny is cast, and at your silent word, we return to dust, and scatter to the wind. A thousand years are like, a single moment gone, as the light that fades, at the end of day.

Teach us to make use, of the time we have. Teach us to be patient even as we wait. Teach us to embrace, our ev’ry joy and pain, to sleep peacefully, and to rise up strong.
