Jubilee Oval in Griffith. The Boys won 2 games and lost 2, with Zane
being named best and fairest with 10+ tries, huge effort. Our Girls

off to the Grand Final Day at Parramore Park in Wagga Wagga on

Opportunity Class
This year, in the opportunity class our project was
to participate in the CWA Country of Study
Powerpoint Competition. Papua New Guinea is
our country for 2019. We were given the
competition criteria and each member of our
group allocated topics to themselves. There are 3
main topics; History, Geography and Culture,
with lots of subtopics within each of those. We
researched information and put them into our
own words in our books before typing them up
onto the Powerpoint slides. We have 20
completed slides that includes a Bibliography. We
decided on a format for our slides that includes
animations, transitions, background, pictures and
video. We will submit our entry in term 4 and
judging will take place early in 2020.
Semester 2 Public Speaking
It’s that time of the year again! It is time to prepare
for our bi-annual ‘Public Speaking’ competition.
Students will prepare their speeches AT HOME and
bring them to school by the required date. Although
ALL students are REQUIRED to write a speech as part
of their talking/listening assessment, only 3-4 students
from each class will present their speeches at our
school assembly.
The theme for the speeches will be…IF YOU COULD
INVITE ANYONE (EITHER ALIVE, DEAD or
FAMOUS) TO A SPECIAL CELEBRATION (eg
birthday, graduation, wedding), WHO WOULD IT
BE AND WHY?
Students could consider the following: WHAT kind
of celebration would you invite them to? WHO
would you invite and WHY? WHAT is special about
the people you would like to invite? WHERE will
you have your celebration (your place, a restaurant
or somewhere else)? HOW will your guests get
there? WHAT would you be doing/eating etc?
WHAT would you talk about? How would it make
you feel to have them there?
(Students in K/1/2 might talk about inviting 1-3
people, while older students could discuss inviting as
many as 5).
Speeches will NEED to be written before they are
required for assembly. Classes will present at
assembly in the following weeks…
Week 4 - 8 Nov classes 3/4 & 5/6
Week 5 - 15 Nov classes K/1 & 1/2
As usual, students will be scored on their speeches at
assembly and the students with the highest scores will
receive a small trophy for their efforts (hopefully in
week 6 or 7, at assembly).
If parents OR students have any queries, you should
see your class teacher ASAP.
