Concept and IdeasA Light That Never Comes is one of Linkin Park's many singles and features a colaboration with Steve Akoi. I chose this song as it is one of the songs that I frequently find myself listenign to from Linkin Park and is one that I enjoy the most from the band. However, it is considered one of their least popular songs so I also wanted to see if a video could make it any better in terms of the audience liking it. The song has many of different interprutations but the one I see is of someone experiencing many fo emotions at once that lead him to feeling lost al of the time. The lyrics describe smeone waiting for a small amount of happiness which hasn't come to them yet and I interprut this as someone trying to get over something tragic in their lives but are finding they are not doing so.

In my video I plan to show the emotions and struggles a son goes through after the loss of his father. In doing so I wnat to show specific emotions more than others; anger, sadness and lost. These emotions in my opinion suit well with the song and are some of the main emotions and struggles when coping with a lost one.

Performance/NarrativeThe story I want to tell in my music video is the stages a son goes through when struggling with the grief of losing his father. I plan on doing this by showing the son to go through various emotions and then seeing some items that would normally be passed on from the dad to the son, such as a watch or glasses.

To show the theme of lost in the character I plan on showing him in various scenes in a forrest, as I see this as one of the most typical places to be lost in and I want the audience to figure out he feels lost rather than just instantly telling them as this wouldn't happen between one person and the lost one. Since the song is about finding a way out of feeling these emotions I want the scenes of lost to be during the chorus.

Location

The forrest location has a bridge which could be useful in showing the character looking out off of it. It could also represent an end goal for the character as an unexplored region and may be the light that never comes for him.

I want to show the main character doing a normal day to day activity such as doing the dishes or cleaning. From this just thinking about his dad out of know where and panic from his anger and sadness. The way the audience will tell that this is something to do with the loss of his dad would be the inclusion of his father's glasses in the scene that appears out of nowhere and acts as the son's thoughts.

Editing and ShotsAndrew Goodwin talks about thought beats inside of music videos. This theroy is one I believe to be true and will be one I will use when editing my video together, switching from lip sync clips to narrative clips however keeping motion with the beat of the song more specifically with the drums as the are a main focus point with how the music is styled together.

Typically with rock genre music the artists are as much focused upon as the music. Close up shots are commonly used to focus on the artist and create a star image. I plan on usinig a lot of close ups of the artist to follow conventions but to also show the emotions the character is going through as well.
