Identification: Name of the Event Where did it happen? What type of pollution

occurred?

-The Chernobyl Incidence-Happened in Ukraine (which used to be a part of the USSR)-A power plant exploded-Pollution was spread by the wind.

-The Black Triangle in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.-The pollution effected those countries, as well as many other in Europe.-The pollution came from factories and was carried away by the wind in clouds, and fell as Acid Rain.

-Tisza-Danube Cyanide River Spill-The most effected country was Romania, but it also went through Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria to name a few countries.-The Cyanide speak from one country to another as it traveled in a large river system.

Effects: On people on animals On plants On buildings and

structures In general

-Some people were killed by the explosion, others from radiation.-People have a higher risk of cancer.-Plants and animals were poisoned and many died.-The power plant blew up.-People had to abandon their town.

-People cannot drink contaminated water.-Many animals, such as fish, have died.-Large forest have gotten very sick, and some have died.-Buildings and structures, such as those from ancient Rome and Greece are being destroyed.

-People had to stop drinking the water for a little while.-Many animals were effected. Fish died, and otters who ate fish died as well.-The environment will probably take many years to fully recover from the event.

Call to Action: How did people fix the

problems? How can people prevent

such an event from happening in the future?

-They build a large concrete box around the source of pollution.-People abandon their towns to avoid radiation poisoning.-Better safety rules must be followed in the future.-Countries around the world need to work together to monitor nuclear sites.

-Putting Smokestack Scrubbers on the top of smokestacks can reduce pollution.-Using alternative sources of energy, such as wind power.-People need to be more aware of how their pollution might be effecting others.

-Sunlight destroys cyanide, so when the sun came up much of the pollution went away. -The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River has helped to keep the water safe.-On Danube Day people get together to celebrate the river and make sure it is safe.
