Job Summary

Will assist with all provision of comprehensive services to the Head Start Children and their families.

Will participate in special activities with children designated by the Teacher and the Child Health Development Services Manager.

Other Job Duties

Plan with Teacher and help to set up materials and equipment used in activities by designated children.

Supervise specified areas, including all indoor and outdoor activities, and meal time experience.

Assist in the supervision of children as they arrive and depart.

Take children for disability services and field trips.

Assist in the care of equipment and supplies, cleaning and storage of equipment used with designated children.

Maintain a clean and safe classroom and playground.

Responsible for reporting to immediate supervisor and County Office reason for tardiness or absence.

Secure a volunteer in absence from Center.

Simple Explanation Please!! The bottom line of the job description

is that a One/One Aide is responsible to assist the designated child in all areas of the child’s educational, physical, and social needs.

Documentation is to be kept up to date.

Work with the Teacher to meet IEP goals for child.

IEP-----What is that?

IEP---Individual Education Plan The need for an IEP is decided up the

qualifying special need of a child. An IEP is written by the LEA (Local

Education Agency—Public School) once the need has been established.

The Parent must agree with the LEA that an IEP is needed. If the Parent doesn’t agree---there will not be an IEP.

The IEP Team is made up of the Parent, LEA which includes the Regular Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Administrator, any other specialized staff needed to meet the needs of the child and anyone that the Parent wants to invite to participate. Sometimes that includes the grandparents, Head Start Staff, and/or close friend. The Team must agree upon the goals and steps toward meeting the goals.

INCA Classroom Staff Policy Staff is to be aware of every child in the Center. Volunteers and Foster Grandparents are to report

misbehavior to the Teaching staff. They are not to discipline! Activities are to be ready upon the children’s arrival. The Lesson Plan is to be followed daily, and prepared in

advance. Document any changes to the lesson plan directly on the document.

Rest time means all the children will lie on their cot and be quiet. They are not required to sleep. Rest time is to be 45 minutes to 1 hour in length.

All staff is to remain on the playground during outside play time.

Teacher, Teacher Aide, and One/One Aide are to participate in circle time.

Mealtime is also learning time. This is a good time to teach manners, nutrition, new food acceptance, etc.

A teaching staff member is required to be with children at all times. Volunteers and Foster Grandparents are not to be left in charge of children.

One/One is to keep documentation on the assigned child. The teaching staff is to share in the responsibility of all special need children.

Food is not allowed in the classroom unless it is a planned children’s activity. Staff are not to bring soft drinks or snacks into the classroom. It is the responsibility of the teaching staff to inform Parents and volunteers of this policy.

Adults are not to sit on the tables. You are an example to the children.

Teaching Staff are to interact with the children. The desk is for paperwork when the children are down for rest time.

Art work is an activity that is to express the individual child’s ideas and creativity. This is their work, not the work of the staff.

Television and videos are only used for educational purposes, and should be used rarely in the classroom.

Outdoor play should contain learning centers. Teachers need to interact with children in planned activities. This is an outdoor classroom.

A playground check (looking under equipment, into equipment, looking for damaged equipment, or trash) is to be done before entering the playground with children.

a physical nature, for example, shaking, striking, spanking, swatting, thumping, pinching, popping, shoving, spatting, biting, hair pulling, yanking, slamming, excessive exercise, or any cruel treatment that may

cause pain; (2) putting anything in or on a child's

mouth as punishment

restraining a child by any means other than holding and then for only as long as is necessary for the child to regain control;

(4) subjecting a child to punishment of a psychological nature, for example, humiliation by derogatory or sarcastic remarks about the child or the child's family's

race, gender, religion, or cultural background;

using harsh or profane language or actual or implied threats of physical punishment;

(6) punishing or threatening a child in association with food, rest, or toilet training;

(7) isolating a child without supervision or placing him or her in a dark area;

(8) permitting a child to discipline other children;

(9) punishing an entire group due to the actions of a few children; or

seeking or accepting parental permission to use any punishment or act prohibited by the requirements contained in this subsection; and

(11) participating in personal activities that interfere with the adequate supervision of children, such as visitors and phone calls.
