Welcome and Module Overview
Welcome to the information pack for your Leading Learning in Communities event, Saturday 8 February.
All sessions are delivered by Teach First Development Leads (DL). This module’s focus is on engaging more
deeply with the community context in which your school is situated. To maximise your engagement with this
you have been split into groups based on your school’s location.
Secondary trainees are all located on 4th Floor. EY & Primary trainees are located on 3rd Floor. The day starts for all trainees with a light breakfast of pastries and fruit at 8:30am. Your key note speaker will start promptly at 9am, with sessions following shortly after. There is unlimited tea/coffee available throughout the day. Key Note Speakers All trainees will hear from two speakers about the impact they can have on their communities as a teacher – both during your time on programme and afterwards.

Training Day Pre-work/reading
All pre event work and any associated reading is available on Teach First X. You should review the module
content at least one week prior to your training day in order to prepare.
Evaluation
After each training day we expect you to complete the evaluation form – this is the same link for both UCL
IOE, and Teach Frist delivered days. It’s important for us to understand your experience on the programme
and your feedback helps us to build long term strategies for improvement.
Training Day Absences
For successful completion of your PGDE, attendance at all training days is compulsory. Your school and the
Teach First charity have invested in your professional development through the Postgraduate Diploma in
Education (PGDE). You are required to attend each session in full to meet the course requirements and to
support your classroom practice. All dates were communicated to you at the beginning of this academic year
and can be found on My Teach First.
We understand that there may be unforeseen circumstances in which you find yourself unable to
attend a training day. When this occurs, it is vital you follow the absence process in full.
Travel and Accommodation Policy
While studying for academic qualifications with any UK Higher Education provider, it is usually an
expectation that students cover their own travel costs. However here at Teach First, we like to contribute due
to the distance some trainees must travel.
Criteria has been based on the distance travelled for car transport and the equivalent costs used for public
transport. To check you are eligible to claim travel costs you must work out the distance from your home to
the venue to which you are travelling.
Further information is available via the Travel and Accommodation Policy FAQs.
