I wrote at least 655
of them.
Aesop lived during the sixth century BC and was probably a slave onthe island of Samo. He loved to tell stories. It is said that Aesop was
ugly and deformed and those who came to listen to his tales laughed
as much at him as at his stories. Though no historical information on
Aesop is available, he was probably a real person.

The Ant and the GrasshopperIn a field one summer's day aGrasshopper was hopping about,chirping and singing to its heart'scontent. An Ant passed by,
bearing along with great toil an earof corn he was taking to the nest."Why not come and chat with me,"said the Grasshopper, "instead oftoiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for thewinter," said the Ant, "and recommend youto do the same."
"Why bother about winter?" said theGrasshopper, we have got plenty of foodat present."
But the Ant went on its way and
continued its toil. When the winter camethe Grasshopper had no food and founditself dying of hunger, while it saw theants distributing every day corn and grainfrom the stores they had collected in the
summer.Then the Grasshopper knew:
