From the President…… It is hard to believe we have moved through another year and will soon be planning our calendar for 2018 and all the activities ahead. From my family, to all the members and staff of MRAS, I wish you peace and happiness in this New Year! As we look back into 2017, so much was accomplished with the hall renovation, water treatment plant enhancement, lighting improvements for our arena and integrity building, facility power improvements, new staff and funding new initiatives. A BIG thank-you to the staff, event leads and many volunteers who spent hours and hours and hours over the last year in making our events such a success. We are excited for the coming year and all the events that our membership and surrounding communities will have an opportunity to experience – our 5th Golf Tournament on June 4th, our 7th Half Marathon on June 16th, the renowned July 1st Races for the 113th year, our 22nd Heritage Rodeo on July 20th, 21st & 22nd, the 111th Fair on August 18th & 19th, and our 2nd Chuckwagon & Chariot Races on September 7th, 8th, 9th. If you are looking to get more involved in your community and/or meet more people, our event committees can certainly use your assistance. Of particular note, the Chuckwagon & Chariot Races committee will be hosting the 2018 Finals for the season and would like this to be a real celebration. With the AGM now past, I would like to welcome the newly elected directors to the MRAS Board of Directors: Michelle Parry, Colina J Clark, Blaine Clark, Catherine Durholt, Kelly Hamzic, Roy Mathis, John McGruther, Sandy MacKenzie, Bill Niles, Brad Robson, and Nancy Seaman. I look forward to working with you in the up-coming year. I would also like to thank our returning board members who were re-elected; Ralph Onciul, Anne Marie Mullane, Faye White. A very big thank you to the outgoing board Members, Bill Jackson, Barb Castell, Rick Charlton and Dwain Lowe. Thank you for your time and efforts in supporting MRAS. I look forward to sharing more information with the membership as the weeks and months progress. Looking forward to what 2018 has in store! Brent Foster MRAS President

Road Trip Report from KOS and Mrs. Clause

On Thursday Dec 14th, Mrs. Clause and chauffeur elf Melonie hopped into the red "sleigh" on a delivery mission. After 154 km, 3.5 hours, 2 Tim Hortons, 10 Timbits, 6 FSD schools (presenting to the principals) and the Turner Valley Food bank, and Rowan house (delivered separately) we completed this mission. These donations are for their school hot lunch programs that are utilized my MANY children daily.

We started at Longview school with a super fun tour by the hot lunch coordinator. Mrs. Clause received a tonne of little people hugs and many thank you comments. Second, Oilfields High School where we stopped into the Foods class and one other classroom for a visit. Surprisingly the high school kids were still happy to see Mrs. Clause! We ended the Black Diamond stops with a quick trip into the C. Ian McLaren School.

Off to Turner Valley School; Mrs. Clause surprised the Kindergarden and Grade 1 classes and had to answer some hard questions and listen to all the children’s stories of their bad elves on shelves!

Noticing all the cars at the Oilfields Food bank, we thought we would stop in, just in case. It was a lovely sight to see so many people there packing up Christmas hampers and we were able to surprise them too!

Millarville Community School was the next destination - and how cute those Kinders were! Last stop was Red Deer Lake School. We were able to have a quick visit with the Kindergarden there and again, Mrs. Clause did an amazing job at answering all of those really tough questions like how many elves does Santa have? How old is Rudolph?

In total we delivered $6412 dollars with $916 to happen next week. That is $7328! These proceeds are from the Kids Only Shoppe at the Millarville Christmas Market when the thousands of handmade (by vendors and volunteers) are sold to kids 12 and under to take home, all wrapped up, in hopes their loved ones love what they picked and that they themselves can keep the secret that long!

Thank you to everyone involved whether you donated, crafted, volunteered or purchased. It is such an awesome

cause that we look forward to repeating year after year!

FYI - Santa employs 85,851 elves! And Rudolph is 78 years old!

2018 Chuckwagon & Chariot Races

September 7 - 9, 2018

Similar to the Heritage Rodeo Committee, it is the Chuckwagon & Chariot Race Committee’s commitment to

have an event that promotes Heritage, Community, Education and Agriculture as well as to continue

supporting the APCCA racing events however they can. With this in mind, we will be hosting the 2018

APCCA FINALS at the Millarville Racetrack in September and we are very excited to bring this to the Track.

The 2nd Millarville Chuckwagon & Chariot Races planning is progressing extremely well with the next meeting
