It is hard to believe this school year is almost over. Where did the time go? We have so many accomplishments to be proud of this year at JFK. First, we imple- mented our 4 R and Patriot Pride student recognition program with fidelity. The students are respond- ing very well to our core beliefs (being respectful, responsible, ready, and forming positive rela- tionships) and are practicing leader- ship skills. Our students also do a great job of helping others in our own building and in the community. Recently JFK organized a 2k walk and raised over $1000 for our first responders in town. Specifically, the majority of the funds will be used to purchase equipment need- ed to train the canine police dogs. I am always impressed with our students’ kindness and generosity. I am pleased to report that JFK received its re-accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges last month! The NEAS&C visiting committee completed a 4-day detailed study of JFK back in October. The final report describes many of the things we do really well here, but it also specifies several recommendations that will make JFK an even better school. The committee gives us 5 years to show evidence of address- ing its recommendations. I am committed to making this happen and ensuring that our students are happy successful learners. It would be hard to live in Enfield and not hear about the fantastic production of Lion King JR. that our students performed in early May. The students were truly amazing!! Also I am very proud of the 39 eighth graders recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. I am told this is the largest group of inductees in recent years. JFK teachers are doing a great job preparing our students for the academic rigors of high school. Greetings JFK…and Future JFK The last few months of the school year are always very busy here in the JFK Guidance Department. Recently we have been welcoming future 6th graders to our school. Fifth grade students from Parkman visit-ed on May 5 and 6, Eli Whitney students visited on May 10 and 11, and students from Prudence Crandall will be here on May 12 and 13. These students have been paired with a current 6th grader, and had the oppor-tunity to tour the school, attend a real 6th grade class, and sample the tasty JFK lunches. It is also recom-mended that 5th graders and their parents attend one of the Open House nights in August to tour the build-ing, try a few lockers, and introduce themselves to the counselors and administrators in their wing. You will receive a letter in the mail announcing these dates. All current JFK students have met with their guidance counselors to plan their schedules for next year. Course selection sheets have gone home, or will go home in the near future for parent approval. Please sign these and have your child return them to their homeroom teacher. Contact your child’s teacher or counselor if you have any questions. We hope your children have had a successful year so far, and that they take the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the year, while still working hard in school. As always, if you have questions or need assistance, please feel free to call your child’s guidance counselor for help. __________________________________________________________________________________________

Please Donate your Can Tabs!

Ms. Mgrdichian’s gr 8 Advisory Group is collecting aluminum can tabs and donating them to Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, MA. Shriners Hospital recycles the pull-tabs from beverage cans and uses the money to directly benefit its patients, children with ortho-pedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. Treatment is provided for free. Please drop off can tabs to the collection boxes in room 15R or Red Wing Office any time until the end of the school year. The cans may still be returned for deposit after the tabs are removed. Thank you for your help!

with the Enfield Beautification Com-

mittee. . Our May recognition goes

Spring brings all kinds of interesting reasons for nurses’ office visits. From breaks and bruises to allergies and bee stings, the nurses’ office is hopping. Remember we need doctor’s notes for any accommodations or medications.

Additionally, there are immunization requirements mandated by the State of CT. The doctor’s proof of these shots also MUST be on file with the nurses’ by August 31, 2016. NOTE: If the appointment is during the summer, please be sure to drop it off, mail it, fax it or send it in with your student The nurses’ will be sending reminder let-ters.
