Towards the European Open Science Cloud The Use Case Austria Paolo Budroni, Raman Ganguly, Barbara Sánchez Solís University of Vienna Research Libraries taking leadership in forming digital research infrastructures on a national scale Paolo Budroni Library and Archive Services Led the development of Phaidra - the digital archiving system for RDM, which also serves as Institutional Repository of the University of Vienna. Phaidra is used in 5 countries. European or National projects (led or acquired): OpenAIRE, Europeana Libraries, TEMPUS in the Western Balkan Region, e-Infrastructures Austria, Open Education Austria, H2020-LEARN (WP3, Policy Development and Alignment. Paolo Budroni is the Austrian National Delegate to the e-Infrastructure Reflection Group (e-IRG) and represents the University of Vienna at the association COAR. Research Libraries show their ability to respond to important questions concerning their new roles, lead- ing in strategy and in- novation, supporting sustainability, crea- ting new and vision- ary settings, showing leadership, building capacity, and imple- menting knowledge of research data man- agement and project management. In Austria, there are currently six national publicly fund- ed cooperative projects in place supporting the Amster- dam Call for Action on Open Science. These are six transversal projects covering govern- ance, service, data and in- frastructure, and all com- ply with the requirements of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Four of these six projects were initiated by Austrian Research Libraries, and five of which provide the core facilities for the de- velopment of these projects. 6 projects e e-Infrastructures Austria and e-Infrastructures Austria Plus (2014 - 2019) e-Infrastructures Austria (26 Partners) and e-Infra- structures Austria Plus (9 Partners) are projects for the coordinated establishment and development of repository infrastructures for digital resources in re- search and science throughout Austria to securely archive and publish digital publications, multimedia objects and other digital data resulting from research and education. Open Education Austria (2016-2018) Open Education Austria is a project of Austrian uni- versities to jointly develop a national infrastructure for Open Educational Resources (OER). For the first time attempts are being made to link services from e-learning centers, ICT Services and li- braries of partner universities in order to assist teach- ers in the creation of OER materials for self-study and teaching. The aim is to gradually increase the quality of teaching and learning as well as the visibility of good practice materials within the specialist commu- nity. AuSSDA (2016-2019) AuSSDA - the Austrian Social Science Data Archive has a mission to become a leading supplier of so- cial science data in Austria. As a certified reposito- ry, AuSSDA will systematically collect, document and disseminate digital quantitative data and will guaran- tee its long-term availability, along with any accom- panying documentation following international stan- dards. AuSSDA is integrated in the European ESFRI roadmap via its membership in the Consortium of Eu- ropean Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA). Austrian Transition to Open Access AT2OA (2017-2020) The main focus of the project is to further develop and implement Open Access in Austria. All 21 Austrian federal universities are partners Portfolio/Showroom - Making Art Research Accessible (2017 – 2019) With the two complementary web-based applications “Portfolio/Showroom” the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and basis wien, will develop a current research information sys- tem (CRIS) especially (but not exclusively) aiming at art universities. The open source-applications (OSS) will make extensive use of existing infrastructure (e.g. repositories, document servers) and interfaces (e.g. open-standard formats, controlled vocabulary) to facilitate a widespread implementation of the soft- ware. Participating universities can implement “Port- folio/Showroom” within their infrastructure, whereas all software instances communicate with each other – hence offering a powerful research tool for students and researchers. The Data Market Austria DMA – (2016 – 2019) The project is creating a Data-Services Ecosystem in Austria by advancing technology foundations for secure data markets and cloud interoperability, and creating an environment encouraging data- centred innovation. Pilots will demonstrate the reuse of data and services and resulting value generated through innovative applications built on multiple open and proprietary data sources Raman Ganguly Computer Center Raman Ganguly is the leader of the Software Design and Development Department at the Vienna University Computer Center (ZiD), and is an expert in software development and media technology. Raman Ganguly is the technical leader of Phaidra, member of the Phaidra Steering Committee and coordinates the technical agenda of the international consortium www.phaidra.org. From 2014 to 2016, he has been the technical leader of the federal-grant (HSRM) project e-infrastructures Austria and is now in the project management of the project Open Education Austria. Barbara Sánchez Solís Library and Archive Services Barbara Sánchez Solís is Project Manager at AuSSDA - The Austrian Social Science Data Archive. She specializes in data management plans and research data. Before, she coordinated the nation-wide, ministry-funded project e-Infrastructures Austria which focused on the development of e-infrastructures and issues of research data management, and she also collaborated in the development of Policies within the H2020 project LEARN.
