MFL - Prioritising learning over evidencing(... for its own sake)
• Listening + Speaking = 2/4 skill areas & 50% of GCSE marks.
• Amount of work in exercise books <-> amount of MFL lesson time.
• Evidencing for its own sake: waste of lesson time + negative impact on motivation (can make practice activities feel like tests).
• Practice activities re. recently-introduced content: trial & error, so oral feedback makes more sense than evidencing.
• Exercise books best used exclusively for:• written homeworks• work that is to be marked formally• what pupils can usefully refer back to at a later stage.
• ‘Ofsted does not expect to see a particular frequency or quantity of work in pupils’ books or folders.’
