Table No. - 06Permissible Radial and Axial load on Motor(At the center of extension (Std.) including weight of the pulley)
The radial load for a given motor depends on the type and size of pulley/pinion chosen and type of driven machine. Radial loadcan be calculated using the following formula.
p =a x 973 x kWRPM x D/2
+ W Where, a = Belt Factor 2 to V belts3for flat belts
kW = Output of the motor in kW.RPM = Speed of the motor in Rev./Min.D = Dia. of pulley in meters.W = Weight of the pulley in kg.
It is recommended that the mounting of pulley/pinion be such that the load acts at the middle of extension of the shaft. For radialloads other than those recommended in Table No. 06, customers are advised to consult LHP for maximum allowable loads.

11.1 Salient Features
11.2 Construction
1. Simple construction and installation : The operation of the brake is fail-safe type i.e. Normally 'ON'. The brake is appliedwhen the power to the motor is cut off or power failure occurs. Being of simple and robust construction. these motors needvery little maintenance. In the rare event of failure it can be repaired easily and quickly. Spacial brake liners are used toensure that the braking torque remains constant throughout the use. Compensation for liner wear is very simple. Also thetorque adjustment is very easy. The breaking torque can be adjusted by rotating torque adjustment ring. The brake motorfacilitates easy replacement of armature disc in the event of wear and tear.
2. Manual Release is provided for brakes up to brakes up to 200 Frames. In case of power failure or in case of maintenance, the manual release can be pushed back for releasing the brake.
3. Dust-Protecting seal is provided for protection of brake liners form dust.4. The Switching Time of the brake motor is very fast, almost instantaneous.5. The brake motor is provided with the rectifier unit. Therefore, no separate D.C. Supply is necessary for energizing the brake
coil. Varistor is provided across the D.C. Terminals to protect the brake coil and rectifier against line and induced voltages, due to switching.
6. Normally 'OFF' type brakes can also be offered on request. These type of brakes are very compact in design & have highoperating reliability. The liners are made of special friction material & the brake is almost maintenance free.
7. A.C. Fail Safe brake motors can be offered on request.8. DC side switching only for our geared brake motors.
11.3 Working
In the event of power failure, the braking torque in applied by an axial force of several compression springs. Pressing thearmature plate against the rotor. The rotor is then pushed against the mounting flange or a suitable face.
11.4 Switching
Our Brake motors require D.C. supply voltage, (190VDC) which can be obtained through A.C. Or D.C. rectification. Normallyswitching is carried out on the A.C. side. However, for much faster engagement / disengagement time, switching is carried out onthe D.C. side for which a suitable arc suppressor and capacitor is a must to protect the coil and switching from high inductionvoltage engagements and for switching purpose, please refer to brake coil connection diagram. For hoisting and lift application, only DC side swithching is recommended.
11.5 Output Ratings
As per Table 02
11.6 Braking Torque
Braking-torque depends upon the output rating, speed and application of the motor. Therefore, customers are requested tocontact LHP for proper selection of the brake for intended application.
11.7 Dimensional Specifications
Please refer to table no. 3, 4, 5 for detailed dimensions of brake motors.

The necessary torque for selecting the Brake size can be calculated by applying the
formula given below,
T=9550 x 0.75 x P
KxRPM
Where T= Torque in N.M.
P= Power of Motor in HP.
RPM = Speed of Motor per minute
K= Safety factor, which is to be considered depending on load & inertia on motor.
For Typical applications K shall be selected as per guidelines given below.

12.1 Special Features
1. Ideal for frequent starts / stops and reversing reversing operations in material handling, lifts cranes, hoists and rolling mills.2. Positive locking between rotor and shaft is provided with a keyed joint.3. Motors can be supplied with electromagnetic fail-safe D.C. brakes.4. All crane duty motors are with D.O.L. Starting and F class Insulation.
12.2 Selection of Motors
The kilowatt requirement of the motor can be obtained by the following formula.1. For Horizontal Motion :
Where :P = Power required (kW)
P = F = Max. total load in kgV = Hoisting speed in Mtrs./Sec.n = O/A Eff. of the driving unit.
2. For Rotary Motion :Where :
P = M = Torque for movement in kg. m.N = Motor speed in RPM
Ensure the rated output of motor is greater than the power PL.Depending upon the duty classes usually required by the crane manufacturer as explained above, the motors are classified intothree classes of starting : 60 Stars / hr, 150 Starts / hr, 300 Starts / hr.LHP Motors are standardized such that they are suitable for all the three classes of starting. For purpose of thermal rating the equivalent duty is class S2 - 60 minutes.

12.3 Classes of Duty & Duty Cycles
Motors are suitable for :A Continuous Duty (S1)B Short Time Duty (S2)C Intermittent Periodic Duty (S3)D Intermittent Duty with Starting & Electrical
Braking (S5)
1. Continuous DutyOperation of constant load of sufficient duration forthermal equilibrium to be reached.
Note : Crane Duty motors are suitable only forcontinuous duty for 1 hour.
2. Short Time DutyThe motor operated at a constant load for somespecified time which is then followed by periods of rest. The period for load is so short that the motor cannotreach its thermal equilibrium i.e. steady temp, risewhile the period for rest is so long that the motor temp.drops to the ambient temp. The simplified diagram forshort time duty is shown in Flg. 02. Standard short timerating are 10, 30 & 90 minutes.
12.0 Crane Duty Motors
18
N
3. Intermittent Periodic Duty
On intermittent duty the period of constant load & rest withmachine de-energised alternately. The load periods are too shortto allow the motor to reach its final thermal steady state value whileperiods of rest are also too small to allow the motor to cool down tothe ambient temp. The simplified load for this type of duty is shownin Fig. 3.
For evaluation of intensity of heating due to intermittent periodicloads, duty factor is used. The duty factor (also called as cyclicduration factor) is generally defined as the ratio of the heatingperiod to the period of whole cycle.
So, Cycle Duration Factor =N
N + R
4. Intermittent Periodic Duty with Starting
This type of duty consists of a sequence of identical duty cycles, each consisting of starting a period, the operation & rest period aretoo short to attain thermal equilibrium during cycle as shown inFig. 04.
In this duty, the stopping of the motor is obtained either by naturaldeacceleration after disconnection of the electric supply or bymeans of breaking such as mechanical brake which does notcause additional heating of the motor.
5. Intermittent periodic Duty with Starting & Breaking
This type of duty consists of sequence of identical duty cycles eachconsisting of a period of starting, a period of operation at constantload, a period of braking and a period of rest. The operating & restperiods are too short to obtain thermal equilibrium during one dutycycle shown in Fig. no. 4. In this duty the braking is rapid & iscarried out by electrical means.
The duty factor (CDF) =D + N + F
D + N + F + R

13.0 Dual Speed MotorsLHPL, developed Dual Speed Motor for polarity ratio - 2/4P, 4/8P, 6/8P,6/12P. The frame size outputs are confirmed subject to knowing :
a) Complete application detailsb) Duty cycle/loading cyclec) Method of brakingd) Load GD referred to motor shaft
Winding of dual speed motors : There are two types of winding techniques which are used in the motors :a) Tapped winding (Also called Dahlandar winding) : where the two speeds are in ratio of 2 to 1b) Separate windings : One for each speed, when the output speed is other than 2 to 1 ratio. The latter results in considerable reductionin output rating.
