Manufacturing in South Central Minnesota

In the nine county region of South Central Minnesota, 21.9% of all private sector jobs come from manufacturing. The total number of individuals employed in manufacturing in 2013 was 18,901 within 359 manufacturing establishments. Average weekly wages for manufacturing positions was $863, which is 17.5% higher than average weekly wages for all

industries.The manufacturing industry is a significant contributor

to South Central regional economy by providing 22.4%, or $848,041,039 of all private sector payrolls in in South Central Minnesota.

In 2013, the most significant sectors within the manufacturing industry in regards to employment include food manufacturing with 4,843 employees and printing and related support activities which employed 3,759 individuals. Table 1 gives further detail on the breakdown of the manufacturing industry.

Careers in Manufacturing As figure two shows, average weekly wages in the manufacturing industry have been consistently higher than that of

the total of all industries throughout the years. In 2000 average weekly wages in manufacturing were $101 higher than those of all industries, and this trend continued through 2013, which there was a $151 difference in manufacturing wages per week compared to all industries.

SpecSys Inc was founded in 1997. In its early stages the home-based consulti ng business primarily supported the design and engineering departments of machinery and equipment manufacturers. With the additi on of 3D CAD design /draft ing, engineering analysis, nite element analysis (FEA), and technical publicati ons SpecSys quickly grew to include additi onal staff .

1731 James Ford established a business as a maker of “sti lliards” in Digbeth, near Birmingham, UK.
