Promotion and Publicity • The Department of Tourism ,Himachal Pradesh has its Tourist Information Offices at main
Tourism Destinations in the state like Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Manali Shimla Mandi etc.
where qualified Tourist Information Officers are deployed to give the tourist accurate and
reliable information about the Tourist Destinations within the state, They also address to the
enquiries about Hotel and Travel arrangements. and bookings
• The Department also has Tourist Information Offices at Chennai,, Ahmedabad (HPTDC),
Mumbai (HPTDC), Kolkata (HPTDC) Pathankot and Chandigarh for providing the Tourist
necessary information.
• Publicity wing which brings out the printed material like Brochures promotional films,
quarterly magazine “ Monal” disseminating information about all the Tourist Destinations of
the state.
• Tourism is also promoted by participating in Tourism marts ,events like TTF,IITM etc.
• Gantries and Sign Boards have been installed all over the state for information about
important tourist places
Himachal Pradesh has been one of the few States to enact a law to regulate the Services like Hotel accommodation, travel arrangements, tourist guides etc.
All the Tourism units are required to be registered with the
Department of Tourism under the provisions of the HP Tourism Development & Registration Act-2002 and the HP Tourism Development & Registration of Tourism Trade Rules 2012.
The concerned Deputy Director’s / District Tourism Development Officers is the prescribed authority under the Act for registration & regulation of Tourism units.

Development of Tourism
Infrastructure
•The Department also endeavors to strengthen the Tourist infrastructure like Toilets,
Way Side Amenities, Parkings, Tourist Reception Centers, etc with financial support of
the State Government and Ministry of Tourism , Government of India. The Department
also provides fund for beautification and restoration of important heritage buildings,
temples, churches , monasteries etc. thus playing a role in preservation of Heritage of
the state.
•With the financial assistance of ADB, Master Plans for development of cultural
religious destinations like Naina Devi, Chintpurni and Kangra town are being
implemented. . Beautification of Shimla town and restoration of heritage buildings like
Town Hall, beautification of Mall Road etc is being done. About USD 95.00 million
has been approved for infrastructure projects under two phases,work is under progress
•In Principle approval has been accorded by MOT GOI of Rs.99.99 crores for various
tourism infrastructure development projects in the State under Himalayan Circuit
Ropeway Projects: Operational: (3) Solang, Parwanoo & NainaDevi Under Execution on PPP Mode: (4) Shimla barrier to Lift- Mall, Mall to Jhakhoo, Dharamshala to Mecleodganj , Chamunda to Adi Himani & Kullu bye Pass to Bijli Mahadev At Bidding Stage(6) Toba to Naina Devi, Deotsidh, Dharamkot to Triund, Palampur, Kullu to Bijli Mahadev & Sarahan to Bashal Kanda

Trainings and Skill Development
•In order to enhance skills in hospitality and tourism activities of the un
employed youth of the state and provide them opportunities for self
employment in the Tourism Sector, trainings are provided to youth of the state
•Trainings are provided with financial assistance from the Centre and State
Governments. Budget is allocated for trainings to candidates belonging to
general and S.C Categories
•Trainings are provided for Driving Skills, Tourist Guide Trainings, Dhabha
worker/owners trainings, Trainings in adventure sports like paragliding,water
sports,Trekking Guides,Skiing etc
•Trainings are provided through various agencies like HIMCON, Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali, Regional
Water Sports Centres ,FCIs,IHMs etc
Home Stay Scheme aims at providing comfortable & standardized Home Stay facilities to the tourists and to supplement availability of accommodation in the rural tourist destinations. It also provides an opportunity to the tourists to stay with families in Rural areas and to experience local customs and traditions and relish authentic local cuisines. The scheme also aims at diverting the tourist flow toward off beat areas of the state thereby de-congest the already saturated Tourist Destinations. The scheme also envisages generating self employment opportunities to the youth in Rural areas.
HP Home Stay Scheme
Home Stay Unit: Any private house located in rural areas of the State in good condition and easily accessible in the country-side i.e. within the Farm House, Orchards, Tea-Gardens etc. will primarily qualify under the Scheme. The house shall fulfil the minimum requirement of having one or more room’s accommodation subject to a maximum of three rooms to cover under the scheme.
Incentives: Under the scheme following incentives / exemptions are being provided: Town & Country Planning Department will not charge land use fees from the registered Home Stay units; Home Stay units have been exempted (upto three rooms) from Luxury and Sales tax / Vat. Domestic rates for electricity & water are being charged from the registered Home Stay Units. Presently, there are 850 Home Stay units registered in the State.
Allocation of Budget and Internal Control
•Annual Budget is allocated by the State Government under Plan and Non
Plan Head
•Major Chunk of Budget is allocated for GIA to ADB Project
•Budget is allocated for Infrastructure Development from Major Head
and Minor Head
•Substantial Budget is allocated for Publicity and Promotion
•Besides this funds are also allocated from Ministry Of Tourism
Government of India for infrastructure Development Schemes and other
Tourism Schemes
•Funds for various schemes are routed through the field offices headed by
Deputy Director(Tourism)/DTDO
•The respective field offices further release the funds to Executing agencies like
HPTDC,HPPWD,BDO,s ETC
•The DPRs are prepared and AA/ES are taken from the authority
•Projects are regularly monitored at field level by respective Deputy
Directors/DTDOs
•Respective Deputy Commissioners also review the progress of Tourism Projects
•The Projects are also reviewed and monitored at Head Office and Government
Level and regular meetings are held and inspections are also carried out as per
requirement.
•UC/CCs are furnished by the executing agencies which are verified by Field
officers .
•Regular Audit of the Department is carried out
