WRITING YOUR TOUR ROOM BY ROOM: THE FIRST FLOOR PART 1 For each room, outline a main theme or focus and up to three objects or points you will use to relate to the theme. Think about a way to transition from one room to the next. Identify techniques, questions or other tools you can use to learn more about your visitors interests, encourage their questions or otherwise direct the tour. Determine how long you will spend on each section of the tour. (The sections could be the initial section of the first floor, the entire second floor, and the final section of the first floor.) Do you like the tour to feel like a movie or book where you are introduced to the key figures as the story progresses or do you feel like you want to know about everyone at the beginning? Do you start in another place in the house or another point in time? Do you say the same things on most tours or do you vary your script for tour to tour? Are there certain words or phrases that you find yourself repeating?
