Description The VPD series of industrial touch-

pad HMI controllers feature a 3.5” high resolution, waterproof color touch screen LCD, an internal Real Time Clock and buzzer. Both models have RS-232/RS-485 serial ports for com-munication with a host computer or to control devices with RS-232 or RS-485 interfaces. The VPD-130N model has 5 front panel rubber buttons with tactile feedback in addition to the touch-screen capability. The VPD series can be DIN rail or panel mounted. VPD applications include control in rugged environments, in new automation systems and when retrofi tting older systems with a modern touchscreen controller.

Programming EnvironmentLCD screen layout and controller

functions are fully programmable with HMIWorks. HMIWorks, is a free software development package for the VPD series. HMIWorks provides an easy-to-use environ-ment and powerful, intuitive programming with vector graphic capabilities to let users create appealing graphical interface screens in minutes. The HMIWorks graphic library includes a wide range of graphic widgets for placement on your screen layout. Users can add their own graphics to the library after creating them in a graphics program. IO routines are supplied for many Modbus RTU and DCON protocol devices. For PLC users, HMIWorks provides a Ladder Designer. HMIWorks also provides a C language environment for IT users. It only takes about 30 minutes to learn how to create a typical application program when using Ladder Designer.

Firmware UpdatesFirmware updates are done by connect-

ing the PC's USB port to the miniature USB connector on the VPD's rear panel. A rotary switch lets you select application or operating system updates. The new fi rmware is down-loaded and becomes active when reset.

Two Models The VPD Touchscreens are available in

two models: VPD-130 with touchscreen and rubber keypad VPD-130N with touchscreen only

Applications The VPD TouchPads can be used with

any RS-485 Modbus RTU module such as the M-7000 series modules or the Modbus TCP/IP ET-7000 series modules. Both series offer a variety of analog and digital I/O, relay contacts and switch inputs for controlling virtually any process. The VPD touchPads can also be used as a HMI input panel on a test chassis, production line or for any control application.

When you consider all of the hardware and development software provided, the VPD series of touchscreen Controllers are among the most cost effective HMI solutions on the market.
