T1. Stress Management for Teachers 1 credit

Dates: 2/1 (5 pm-9 pm) and 2/2 (8 am-5:30 pm) Location: Topeka

You teach all day, volunteer all night, and go home to the demands of a busy family and homework to grade. Talk about

Stress with a capital S! This is definitely not what you had in mind when you decided to teach. This workshop will

introduce effective stress-reduction and stress-elimination techniques that you can use both personally and in the

classroom. Do something for you, for a change, and take this workshop!

T2. The Organized Teacher 1 credit

Dates: 2/8 (5 pm-9 pm) and 2/9 (8 am-5:30 pm) Location: Topeka

“Organization.” Does that word make you shudder in fear? Well, good organizational skills help eliminate stress, both in

the home and classroom. Organized information is easier to register and recall, while brain organizational techniques

enable you to reach every learner. You will receive a valuable collection of reproducible classroom forms and sheets,

ideas, and techniques enabling you to organize your room, papers, and LIFE.

L1. Making Project-Based Learning Work 1 credit

Instructor: Patricia Jordan Course #: EDUC 5067-02 Level: 4-8

Dates: 2/22 (5 pm-9 pm) and 2/23 (8 am-5:30 pm) Location: Lenexa

Learn the effective components of project-based learning (PBL) and the research behind it, as well as how to adapt

activities for the learning style and level of the individual student. Come learn how to write plans for PBL that both

challenge students and meet the Common Core State Standards for their grade level. Participants will prepare PBLs to

use immediately in the classroom.

L2. Brain Breaks = Happy Students 1 credit

Instructor: Maurica Gilliland Course #: EDUC 5071-02 Level: K-12

Dates: 3/1 (5 pm-9 pm) and 3/2 (8 am-5:30 pm) Location: Lenexa

Are you looking for an easy way to help your students increase their focus, knowledge, and therefore, their happiness?

Do you want to diversify and differentiate without completely changing your lesson plans? This brain-break workshop

will include research information, implemented brain breaks, and the opportunity to create brain breaks specific to your

and your students’ needs.

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION INFORMATION

FRIENDS UNIVERSITY All workshops are offered for graduate-level credit and available to licensed educators. These

workshops are recommended for re-licensure, along with post-graduate and professional development purposes. To

register:

Complete and detach the pre-registration form. To pre-register by phone using a credit card, call (316) 295-5516 or 1-

800-794-6945 ext. 5516.

Payment must be received to hold your spot. Make checks payable to Friends University or call (316) 295-5516 to

have charges made to your Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card account. To pay online, go to www.friends.edu/pay-

online and click on e-market. Follow instructions under Teacher Education Workshops. Print out the final page with

transaction # and bring to first day of class.

Tuition is $145 per credit hour.

No pre-registrations will be taken the first day of the workshop. All pre-registration must be completed prior to the

start of the workshop.

An e-mail reminder with a class-specific map will be sent the week before the start of the workshop.

No refunds will be issued beginning one week prior to the workshop start date. A $25 cancellation fee per credit will be

assessed on all refunds requested. If the minimum number of participants do not enroll, the workshop will be cancelled,

whereupon you will be notified and a full refund will be given.

All workshops will be letter-graded. As a result, projects/assignments will be assessed. Unofficial grade letters will be

mailed out by Registrar after the grades have been posted to transcripts.
