刘南

刘南，一九九六年毕业于南开大学东方艺术系中国画专业，师从范曾，研修水墨人

物画和书法。后入首都师范大学美术系、攻读美术教育研究生，师从常瑞伦。一九九九年

赴美留学，先后取得阿肯色大学美术教育硕士(MA)，导师包尼布莱克 (Dr. Bonnie Black)。佛罗里达州立大学美术教育博士(PHD)和油画硕士双学位(MFA)，导师汤姆安得森( Dr. Tom Anderson)。目前，执教于佛罗里达 A&M (Florida A&M University) 大学视觉艺术系，

任副教授 (終身教授)，教授素描，绘画和美术教育课程。

长期从事美国美术教育研究，研究领域包括美国高等美术教育，美国普通学校美术

教育，中美写实艺术研究﹐美國當代藝術等。连续三次在美国具象写实艺术大会作学术报

告并发表文章-“美国高等美术教育中关于素描和绘画教学的历史回顾” (2012)，“中国写实

画派-个案研究”(2014)﹐“中國當代寫實水墨人物畫家代表作品分析 (2015)。

教学和艺术研究同时，长期坚持油画，中国水墨画及书法的创作。作品主題涉及人

物﹐風景﹐和静物畫。作品参加州內﹐美國國家和國際藝術機構組織的各种展览近百場，

并獲得諸多獎項。曾获得佛罗里达州聖奧古斯丁藝術家協會金瓦格納最佳作品獎(2012)，美国水墨画协会年展奠基人獎(2012)﹐书法最高奖(2013)﹐繪畫最高獎(2016)，路易斯安那

州亚历山大博物馆最具创意构思奖第一名(2012)，盖斯顿艺术中心年展最高獎(2013)和二

等獎(2015)，瓦道斯塔州立大学年展二等奖(2013)，艾普顿博物馆奥卡拉艺术家联展一等

奖(2014)，萨拉苏它艺术中心佛罗里达意境艺术展第三名(2014)，聖奧古斯丁藝術家協會

荣誉展第二名(2014)。

在美国坚持传播和介绍传统中国绘画和书法艺术，曾在楊柏翰大學、肯塔基大

學、南佛羅里達大學、特洛伊大學、艾墨瑞大学，中田纳西州立大学，加州路瑟然大学，

卡森纽曼学院，佛罗里达大学哈恩艺术博物馆，佛羅里達諾頓博物館、佛羅里達歷史博物

館，全美艺术教育年会，全美水墨画协会等藝術教育機構，组织和大会，中小学校，孔府

学院舉辦數百次講座和課程傳播中國傳統繪畫與書法。

Nan Liu

Liu, Nan began to study Chinese brush painting and calligraphy at a very young age in Tianjin, China. At the age of 16, Nan has named the winner of the prestigious title, “Young Artist of Tianjin” by the Cultural Committee of Tianjin City. In 1992, he was admitted to the Oriental Art Department of Nan Kai University and began to study Chinese brush painting. Among his many teachers, he was most influenced by the renowned contemporary Chinese painter Fan Zeng, especially by his use of simple and vigorous brush strokes and dynamic delineation of form. In 1996, Nan continued his graduate study in Art Education at Capital Normal University in Beijing. In 1999, Nan came to the United Stated and studied Art Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in pursuit of his Master of Arts degree.

In 2002, Nan began his pursuit of a dual degree that included both a Master of Fine Art degree in painting and a Ph.D in art education at Florida State University. As a young emerging artist, Nan has explored various art forms in recent years, including drawing, watercolor, tempera and oil painting. The subjects range from still life, figures, and landscape. Nan’s artworks promote

natural and simple artistic expression and nature has consistently served as the main theme in his works in recent years. In Nan’s recent paintings, he attempts to create a series of life-sized figurative oil paintings of his FAMU students.

Nan’s artworks have been exhibited across the United States among public institutes, museums, and galleries. Many of his paintings and drawings were collected by private patrons. Nan has won several regional and national juried exhibitions and shows. In 2005, Nan was awarded the Mario Plescia Award for painting by Florida State University. In 2012, Nanreceived Best in Show Award from 24th Art in Gadsden Exhibition, Most Thought Provoking Award from Alexandria Museum of Art’s 25th September Competition Exhibition in Louisiana, Founder’s Award from Sumi-e Society of America’s 49th Annual Juried Exhibition, and Jean Wagner Troemel Award from St. Augustine Art Association’s “3rd Nature & Wildlife Art Exhibition”. In 2013, Nan won 2nd Place in Valdosta National all media juried art competition at Fine Arts Gallery, Valdosta State University in Georgia, Best of Show Calligraphy and National Capital Area Chapter Award by Sumi-e Society of America’s 50th Annual Juried Exhibition, 1st Place in Ocala Art Group’s Juried Art Exhibition “A Toast to the Arts-Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” at Appleton Museum of Art. In 2014, Nan received 2nd Place in St. Augustine Art Association’s Annual Honors Show, and 3rd Place at Art Center Sarasota’s 2nd Annual Florida Flavor Exhibition. In 2015﹐Nan received 2nd Place in 27th Art in Gadsden, Gadsden Arts Center, Quincy, Florida and Jerry’s Artarama Award in 2015 Sumi-e Society of America 52nd Annual Juried Exhibition. In 2016, Nan won the Best in Show of Painting in Sumi-e Society of America 53rd Annual Juried Exhibition.

Nan has given presentations on the subject of Chinese Art, especially Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, across the country among universities, museums, public schools, conferences and symposiums. Nan had taught art classes for all age-level groups and has worked with young students from kindergarten to high school, college students, and senior citizens. Nan currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife, Haiqiong Deng, their young son, Ethan, and daughter, Isabel. Nan is currently the associate professor teaching drawing, painting and art education classes at Department of Visual Arts, Florida A&M University.
