Ayon kay Drilon, kung nagsabiang Pangulo na bukas siya sapakikipagdayalogo, the difficultyin the situation is that the SupremeCourt insists that its decisions arein accordance with the law.

So if I am the mediator, I willnot know where I will start, di-nagdag ni Drilon.

Itinuro ni Drilon na hindi nag-mula sa a difference in policy,

where you can mediate ang hi-

dwaan sa pagitan ng Pangulo atKorte Suprema, at sa halip ay mu-la sa the perception that theSupreme Court is not up to itstask of being an impartial arbiterof disputes.

I cannot see how you can me-diate this dispute between theSupreme Court and Malacaang, dinagdag ni Drilon.

Sa halip na mga mamamagitan, itinutulak ni Sen. Francis Pangili-nan ang panawagan niya kayCorona na huwag makialam sa ka-song kasama si dating Pangulo atngayon ay Pampanga Rep. GloriaMacapagal-Arroyo. Isa raw mid-night appointment angpagkakaupo ni Corona.

SHOWBUZZ FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 20116ROMEL M. LALATA, Editor

    Happyholidays

family-oriented 3D-animationArthur Christmas is a feel-good Santa Clause story witha modern, hi-tech twist.

The story revolves aroundthe impending retirement ofthe current Santa Clause, thegreat-great-great (x10) grand-son of the original Santa,Saint Nicholas. With 2 billionchildren to deliver gifts to in

just one night, the currentSanta (voiced by Jim Broad-bent) relies heavily on thehigh-tech army of elves super-

vised by his eldest son Steve(Hugh Laurieyes, Dr.House) who captains the

    whole operation aboard aUSS-Enterprise-inspiredspaceship.

    On the night before Christ-

    mas, Santa successfully deliv-

ers all the giftsall but one: atechnical error has left littlegirl Gwens (Ramona Mar-quez) gift undelivered. Withonly a few hours remainingtill Christmas Day breaks overLondon, Steve recommends toSanta that they deliver the giftafter Christmas.

Fortunately, Santasyoungest son Arthur (JamesMcAvoy), believes that no kidshould be left behind. Withthe help of GrandSanta (BillNighy) and a herd of newreindeer (offspring of the orig-inal Dashers and Prancers and

Vixens), Arthur races aroundthe globe to deliver Gwensgift in time on Christmas Day.

Arthur Christmas may havea high-tech approach to an-swer the old question on how

Santa can deliver all the gifts

on Christmas Eve, but withinthe movie is the old-fashionedbelief that (at least for Chris-tians), Christmas is the onetime that brings families to-gether, by any means neces-sary.

The storytelling is superb, the characterizations believ-able. Even unnamed elveshave their own personality. The detail is marvelous (likethe eyebrow piercing on elfBryony [Ashley Jensen] or thecute Christmas board gamethat the Clause family plays in

the kitchen), but nothing in-terferes with Arthurs story todeliver Gwens gift to herhome in time.

Arthur Christmas is heart-warming, like hot choco on acold, rainy night, with anearnestness that comes from

very charming characters.Makes me, a hardened cynic,

want to believe in Santaagain. And that is a happythought.

    10 SPORTS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2011DENNIS U. EROA, Editor

Garduce to spend Christmas away from home to seal historic 7 SummitsITS NOT just Christmas away

from home but leading Filipinomountain climber Romi Gar-duce will have to endure the al-titude and climate of a 16,067-foot Alpine mountain in the un-forgiving conditions of the

Artarctica to complete a quest. Its a challenge I want to

hurdle to complete my quest.Yes, Im going to be away forChristmas and I am both happyand sad, said Garduce yester-day at the Recreational Outdoor

eXchange (R.O.X) at the Bonifa-cio High Street at the GlobalCity in Taguig City. He is ex-pected to start his quest on De-cember 23.

Garduce is s off to theAntarctica in the South Pole tocomplete the Seven Summits a globe-trotting expeditionthat has seen him ascending the

    worlds highest mountains inseven continents.

Backed by home of Filipinochampions GMA Network, Inc.

(GMA), Garduces much antici-pated summit will make anoth-er Filipino athlete, just like box-ing champ Manny PacmanPacquiao, a world record holder.

Should he be successful, Gar-duce who is also one of the

    personalities behind GMAs

award-winning public affairsprogram Born To Be Wild willbe the first Pinoy to own thebragging rights of completingthis elite mountaineering feat.

Garduces last stop is theVinson Massif in Antarctica, an

    alpine mountain lying in the

    Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth

Mountains. Though poweredwith 24-hour sunlight, the tem-peratures in this polar regionreach negative thirty degreesCelsius (-30 degrees Celsius)during its summer months.

Unknown to many, his SevenSummits quest had a roughstart -- Garduce almost quit inhis attempt to scale his secondsummit -- Mt. Aconcagua inSouth America in 2005, whichstands at more than 22,000

feet. Experiencing difficulties inreaching the peak, Garduce re-turned to his base camp in thelowlands to make a call toManila to announce his sup-posed unsuccessful summit. However, failing to contactManila, he pushed himself tomake one more attempt, whicheventually led to a series of his-toric summits, and with Gar-duce never failing to plant thePhilippine flag on top of these

    worlds highest peaks.

    One of his most celebrated

expeditions, to summit Mt.Everest in 2006 the worldshighest mountain that stands atmore than 29,000 feet abovesea level.

Close to 10 years after hisfirst climb in Africa in 2002,Garduce is set to seal for thePhilippines this historic moun-taineering feat.

Garduce will be joined byfellow UP mountaineer and en-

    vironmentalist Levi Nayahangan

in his upcoming trek. Both Ro-mi and Levi will don officialoutdoor, mountaineering outfitsprovided by the Primer Groupof Companies (Primer), whichmanages the largest sports andrecreation superstore in South-east Asia.

GMA Network, the broadcastleader in adventure sports cov-erage, airs the special coverageof Pito Para Sa Pilipino: theSeven Summits Expedition onGMA and GMA News TV.
