TRANSCRIPT
Today we will be learning
how to sort shapes using Venn and Carroll diagrams.
Mental Activity
We are going to look at some 2-D shapes.
We will work out the number of sides and corners they have.
What is the total of the sides of a triangle plus the corners of a square?
Multiply the number of sides of a hexagon by the number of sides of a
pentagon.
3 + 4 = 7
6 x 5 = 30
How many sides do 2 pentagons and 2 octagons have altogether?
5 + 5 + 8 + 8 = 26
How many vertices do 6 rectangles have?
6 x 4 = 24
How many right angles do 5 squares have altogether?
5 x 4 = 20
How many sides do 3 parallelograms have?
3 x 4 = 12
Main Activity
Today we will sort objects
using Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams.
Here is a Carroll diagram.

We will use these groups.
Sort these shapes using the Venn diagram.

Group Work
Draw Venn diagrams using the information on Carroll diagrams.
