Before I came to school, I called in at the shop and bought some Smarties.

I then counted how many Smarties there were in my

tube.

I then sorted the 24 Smarties into colours

There were 6 red Smarties.

Can you guess how many of the red ones there

were?

Yes, ‘you can’.

But how can we do it?

same to the bottom of the fraction. In this case we have halved it, to get three twelfths and

then divided by 3 to get one quarter.

So, we could say that one quarter of the Smarties tube are Red Smarties.

In my tube there are 8 blue Smarties.

The remainder of the Smarties are Yellow can you work out how many

there are?

We also know that there are 6 red Smarties.Finally, we know that there are 8 blue Smarties.

Therefore…8 + 6 = 14 24 – 14 = 10

There are 10 yellow Smarties.
