WORSHIPPERS IN TRAINING QUESTIONS

Parents – here are two questions to ask your child this week about their time in Worshippers in Training! Remember – they will be receiving a question to ask you too!1. Whose pattern should we follow even in situations where we feel

like we are being treated unfairly?2. What is a situation you feel like you’re having to endure this week

and how can I pray for you in that?

Page 4: TO KNOW CHRIST AND TO MAKE CHRIST KNOWN

Suffering, by most people’s standards, is generally avoided at all costs. The thought of leaning into hardship, especially when it comes unjustly, seems so backwards to most people. Yet, this is how Peter instructs his readers—to be subject to those with authority over us regardless of how you are treated. Such a command is hard to hear, let alone obey! However, Peter takes it a step further: to endure sorrows is a gracious gift to you… because it grants you the opportunity to be like Christ. There is no question that Jesus’ suffering was the greatest injustice the world has ever witnessed. As his people, we have been set free from sin to now follow in his steps.

Discussion Questions1. What is your go-to response when you hear someone declare, “That’s not fair!”? How do you decide when something is or is not fair? Have you ever experienced unjust treatment from someone? How might this passage have changed your handling of the situation?

2. Who does Peter address in this section (vs. 18-20)? To what extent should we identify with this group? What are some particular relationships in your life affected by Peter’s instructions? How might you evaluate your own obedience to these commands?

3. What does Peter mean when he says that enduring unjust suffering is “a gracious thing in the sight of God”? What is the grace shown when you suffer unjustly? How can we know if our suffering is just or unjust? Why is this grace given only through unjust suffering?

4. How does Peter describe Christ as the ultimate suffering servant (vs. 21-25)? To what extent does his sinlessness highlight the injustice of his suffering? What did Christ sinless suffering achieve for those who follow in his steps?

5. How closely are we to follow in his steps? Why is it important for us to be blameless in our suffering? Where has this been addressed previously in the letter? What are tangible steps we can take to grow in our own sinless suffering? What is the ultimate goal of our sinless suffering? How might this also impact those who witness our suffering? NEXT WEEK

Sometimes we don’t realize how much our sin separates us from the Good Shepherd and Master,

God. The sheep below all look similar but can you find the 8 sheep that have strayed from the

pattern of the rest? How does your behavior, especially in unfair situations, show that God is your

Master or not?

you might ____________________ in his steps. He committed not sin, neither was __________________

found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in ___________________; when he suf-

fered, he did not threaten but continued ________________________________ himself to him who

Follow Peter’s Argument Below:

What does this passage say?

Write down what Pastor Mike listed as the primary claim of this passage:

Now write down that same idea in your own words—in a way that you could explain it to someone else:

A Command (verse 18)

Why is this (see above) a “gracious thing” (verses 21-25)

Why should you obey the above command? (verses 19-20)
