Students will develop an articulate critical response to multiple genres of world

literature with a focus on clear expression in both oral and written

forms of communication.

Students will experience a fast-paced immersion environment designed to build proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the target language.

Students will use college texts and primary source documents to expand their understanding of important issues in historical debate.

Students will pursue a course of study in biology, chemistry, or physics. Each includes a concentration in select areas such as ecology, biochemistry, quantum physics, and optics.

Students will select IB Math Studies, IB Mathematics Standard

Level, or IB Mathematics Higher Level to develop their mathematical knowledge and skills in preparation for college and career.

Students will explore the diversity of the arts through creative,

critical, and reflective experiences, culminating in an exhibition of their own work.

IB Program Course of Study

With a curriculum based on six core subjects and globally recognized standards, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Campbell High School has offered a four-year comprehensive experience to bright and motivated college-bound students in Cobb County since 1997.

The combination of rigorous pre-university courses and multiple opportunities for community service provides the student with a well-rounded, highly academic path of study while emphasizing the intellectual, emotional, and ethical development of the individual.

Culminating in six internationally assessed examinations, the program gives students the broad

foundation of skills and knowledge necessary to succeed at any highly selective college or university.

The IB Diploma Program seeks to attract and develop students who exemplify the qualities of the IB Learner Profile. These personal

attributes and experiential approaches to knowledge combine to create a lifelong learner who values every facet of the educational

journey. The IB Learner Profile is at the heart of all of the instruction that takes place in the CHS IB Diploma Program, as these are

the traits that allow students to succeed not only as IB candidates, but also as members of the Campbell High School student body.

In addition to the six IB subjects, IB Diploma candidates must also fulfill the requirements of three additional program components:

Theory of Knowledge (tOK) is an interdisciplinary course that encourages students to explore different ways of knowing (emotion, language, perception, reason) and the various types of knowledge (artistic, historical, mathematical, scientific). Through critical examination of knowledge issues, students develop an awareness of cultural perspectives in their world.

The Extended Essay (ee) is an independent research project that requires each IB Diploma candidate to conduct an in-depth study and document the findings in an essay of approximately 4,000 words. This opportunity allows the student to research a topic in the field of his or her choice, and upon submission, experts in this specific area of study will assess the student’s work and certify it as representative of the IB standards.

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) is the framework for experiential learning that allows students to participate in new and active roles in their community during the junior and senior years. Through extracurricular activities and community service, IB Diploma candidates develop the leadership skills and a sense of responsibility that are essential for success at highly selective universities.

IB Sixth Subject Options

Students currently select either IB economics or IB visual Art as an area of concentration for their Sixth Subject. IB Economics includes the study of fundamental, international, and developmental economics. Students build the skills necessary for economic reasoning by investigating consumption, production, and business operations. CHS IB is home to the Cobb County School District’s only magnet program with a component for the advanced study of Visual Arts, which requires students to express a personal artistic vision in their choice of media as they develop a portfolio for assessment. CHS IB is currently exploring additional Sixth Subject options, including IB music and IB Anthropology.

The following represents the full range of clubs and organizations that allow any IB student to pursue new and interesting areas:

Travel

Outside of their involvement in the school community, IB Diploma candidates also travel to different countries to develop a global perspective. freshman and sophomore IB students may travel to london, Paris, or other destinations to enhance and apply what they learn in the classroom.

As juniors and seniors, IB foreign language students can participate in an exchange program that provides a rich cultural experience to deepen their understanding of the language and people in french or Hispanic countries. IB

Spanish seniors spend eight days in Playa Samara in Guanacaste, Costa rica to live with Costa rican families and attend the Intercultura School to get a true sense of la pura vida (the pure life) in Costa rica. In a partnership between the Georgia Department of education and the Academy of nancy-metz in france, IB French students spend two years participating in a digital, interpersonal, and international exchange. After communicating through email and video conferences, this experience ultimately results in IB students attending a french school for a week and then hosting their peers from france the following year.

The comprehensive IB curriculum empowers all students to develop leadership qualities through meaningful academic and

extracurricular experiences. CHS IB students are encouraged to participate in a full range of clubs, sports, and other activities that

will help them become well-rounded students who contribute to the life of the Campbell High School community.

IB Examinations

During the spring of junior and senior years, CHS IB Diploma candidates complete a series of assessments in all six subject areas. These verbal and written components will ultimately result in a candidate being awarded an overall mark of 1 – 7 for each subject. Other program components (tOK and ee) can contribute additional points to the student’s total. Out of 45 possible points, the students must earn at least 24 to receive the IB Diploma.

Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) Courses

many IB courses and corresponding examinations are offered at two levels: Higher level and Standard level. These designations describe both the level of difficulty and the required amount of hours for study of the subject. IB Diploma candidates pursue at least three Hl courses and three Sl courses during the junior and senior years.

College Credit

The unique design of the CHS magnet curriculum leads to extensive examination options in both Advanced

Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate

(IB) courses, which allow the IB Diploma candidate to take advantage of maximum opportunities for advanced standing or credit at competitive colleges and universities.

Earning the IB Diploma

upon satisfying the State of Georgia’s requirements, students receive a Campbell High School diploma with a seal indicating graduation from a college preparatory program with distinction. In addition to this, magnet program students are also awarded the prestigious IB

Diploma upon successful completion of the following program requirements:

– All internal and external assessments of at least 3 Hl courses and 3 Sl courses

– Theory of Knowledge Prescribed essay and Presentation– extended essay– Creativity, Action, Service scholars Graduate Perspectives...

recent scholarships awarded to IB Diploma graduates include the national merit and national Achievement Scholarships, Georgia tech Presidential Scholarship, vanderbilt lanier Scholarship, national Coca-Cola Scholarship, questbridge Scholarship, the Gates millenium Scholarship, and the uS Department of education Presidential Scholarship (Semifinalist).

College Attendance

recent graduates of CHS IB are currently attending Amherst, mIt, Duke, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, university of Pennsylvania, Williams, vanderbilt, new York university, Yale, university of north Carolina—Chapel Hill, Boston university, Princeton, emory, university of Chicago, united States naval Academy, Georgia tech, the university of Georgia, and many other fine institutions of higher learning.

College Acceptance

The average acceptance rate of IB students into university/college is 22% higher than the average acceptance rate of the total population, and the acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy league institutions (Princeton, Yale, Brown, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, university of Pennsylvania) is between 3% and 13% higher compared to the total population acceptance rate.

Program Accreditation: The International Baccalaureate Organization authorizes Campbell High School to function as one of approximately 2,000 IB World Schools offering the Diploma Program.

Program Recognition: Over 1,800 colleges and universities recognize the IB Diploma as advanced preparation for university study, and many of these schools offer credit or advanced standing for IB Diploma students.

Origin: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Campbell High School began operation in 1997 as Cobb County’s first academic magnet program.

Program Enrollment: The program enrolls approximately 300 students entering from all Cobb County middle schools, multiple private schools, plus out-of-district, out-of-state, and international programs.

Geographic Information: 75% of the students are from outside of the Campbell attendance zone; 25% are from the Campbell attendance zone.

Transportation: Arterial bus transportation is available to all magnet students residing in the Cobb County School District.

Cohort Program: All academic subjects are taken in magnet-specific classes. A minimum of 25-28 courses are required, depending on the student’s course of study.

IB Faculty: faculty members hold specialized IB, AP, and gifted in-field certification for designated courses in the program, and the majority of IB teachers hold advanced degrees.
