In her earlier years, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She spent her life caring for her family and many friends. Many would say Grandma’s house was where you were the most comfortable. She enjoyed cooking and made an assortment of candies every year at Christ- mas. She was an avid gardener and loved tending to her many flowers. Services willl be at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 28 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Pirtle officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Memo- rial Gardens in Tiptonville. Officers were elected with Tara Estes being elected President and Dawn Leland being elected as Vice President. Misty Hopper Stanley was elected as Treasurer and Misty Sharp Spicer was elected as Secretary/Reporter. The MNES PTO is still continuing their annual membership drive. Membership is only $1 and can be completed by contacting the school, a teacher, or a PTO member. More than $1 may be given though, as donations are always welcome. The money raised by the membership drive goes to the children at MNES. This money is used for activities such as field trips and for items such as the Accelerated Reader store in the library. The money raised also funds other incentives for the children at the school. Laverne Newman Walton

Laverne Newman Walton, 86, of Dyersburg, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at her residence.
