here are some easy ways to get

involved

PATHBY STACEY HAMMONS & LOUISE ALLISON

She walked in with dark circles under her eyes and black lipstick. She was angry and pushed away from everyone. After nine days she left stating, “I just can’t do this God stuff. It’s not for me.” I couldn’t stop thinking about her and praying for her. She called from time to time for almost a year and then finally asked if she could return to the safe house. She recently wrote the following: “I was raised doing magic spells with my mom and I believed in worshiping many different “gods and goddesses.” When I was 13 my mom performed what she thought was the ultimate sacrifice to her “gods” and took her own life. I was scared and alone so I found my real dad, who I’d never known. He came and got me and he said I could be his teammate so we took off in his 18-wheeler. He let me drink. I felt cool. On the second night he took advantage of me. After that he began selling me in truck stops across the United States. I couldn’t believe what was happening and tried to commit suicide. I hated myself and everyone around me.” Val slowly began to trust those at PATH (Partners Against Trafficking Humans) and embrace the real God. After two months in the program she gave her life to Christ and was soon baptized. Val graduated the program and now speaks publicly about how a loving God can “save the dirtiest and most unworthy.” She is just one of the lives changed by our loving God at the Christ-centered residential home for survivors of sex-trafficking. Fellowship volunteers and partners with PATH each year to help women like Val. If you would like to learn more about how you can help those trafficked in our state visit pathsaves.org.

A Vision for CubaBY WINSTON FERMIN & DANIEL BRAN

September 2013, Winston Fermin met with Daniel Bran, Fellowship missionary and leader of Fellowship Guatemala. Winston had a heart for Cuba and with Daniel, dreamed to have a church planting movement on the island of Cuba. They planned a trip for May 2014 to explore and establish this vision. Through prayer and planning, they came together to train men and women in Cuba and send them out to plant churches in their own country. They invited as many people as possible to a discipleship conference in Havana and then started meeting and selecting leaders who could be committed to carry out the vision.

By March 2014, the Cuba discipleship and church-planting project was ready to go. Winston flew from Venezuela while Daniel and his middle son, Danny, traveled from Guatemala. They met in the Panama airport and flew together to Havana.

“When we landed in Cuba, there was a young leader waiting for us in an old ‘56 blue Cadillac, that was going to be our transportation on the island. The name of the Cuban leader was Leinier, a person whom God put on Winston’s heart to be the leader of the movement in Cuba.” Since the very beginning, Daniel talked with Leinier about the vision for his country and Leinier responded positively, embracing it and sharing it with others. “We went to visit different communities in Havana to share at different key places to pull leaders in. We went down to the community of Bauta, where we met Rolando

Rodriguez and his wife, then Parraga, where we met Oniet Nunez and his wife, and lastly to Guanajay and met Bernardo Padron.

With a team in place, Daniel shared the vision for Cuba. The leaders invited friends to the Saturday morning conference at the church of Oniet Nunez in Parraga. “God blessed us with the presence of about 45 leaders, men and women. At the end of the conference we invited them to come in small groups for an interview during that week. We ended up with a core team of three leaders and their wives, and a group of 63 leaders to be trained as missional communities planters.”

The Cuban residency church planting program started in August 2014 with six core teachers, two locations and 43 leaders involved. “Now we praise the Lord for His faithfulness and provision. Two months later, the third location is being open and we praise the Lord again for His faithfulness and for the vision of going overseas and sharing the Gospel of Salvation of Jesus Christ with others.” Now the Gospel is being preached, people are being transformed and churches are being established in Cuba.

Fellowship Guatemala’s vision is to “bring hope and transformation of Jesus to the people of Guatemala and beyond, through restoring, equipping and sending local leaders to establish missional communities/churches in their own countries.” If you are interested in learning more visit fellowshipmissions.com/global.

Epic After SchoolBY CODY CALHOUN, BENTON PASTOR

It started as a missional moment last year. We held Fall Fest on our Benton Campus for the previous years with a good number of people from our body coming for a great night of Fellowship. We began to ask the question, “What would it look like to take this great thing out there to our community?” So began our ministry to Chapel Ridge Apartments.

Sitting less than half a mile away was a concentrated group of people that we called our neighbors. Feeling the conviction to not only be a church in our community but for our community, we began to strategically do ministry and life with our neighbors at Chapel Ridge by holding Fall Fest at the apartment complex.

Our heart turned to ministering to the children and families of Chapel Ridge. We began a one-day-a-week after school program based on Little Rock’s Passport to Success to “test the waters” on how receptive families in the complex would be to a church coming to minister to them. Upon launch, we had 14 children take part in Epic. This also started a relationship with Hurricane Creek Elementary, a local school where the church has ministered for the last several years.

We have been helping with subjects like math and reading, but also taking students on a journey through the Scriptures. The first semester Epic students focused on Old and

New Testament, building upon the foundation of the Gospel by using a process called “storying.” By the end of that first semester, four kids had given their life to Jesus.

Another wonderful element of “Passport” we have borrowed for Epic is the family dinners. Epic dinners began matching Fellowship families with Epic families for a night of fun, fellowship, and family dialogue. Each family began talking about what their lives were like, where they grew up, and what the word “home” meant to them. At the close of the evening these groups of diverse families made their dream model home with construction paper, glue and markers. The final thought was ultimately if God doesn’t build the home, the workers (us mom and dads) labor in vain.

Through these intentional moments, we have continued activities at the Chapel Ridge location and seen God do some amazing things. The school has called upon the church to help them in so many ways. The apartment complex calls the church now when someone has a physical, emotional or spiritual need. Families are coming to worship with us from Chapel Ridge. We cannot wait to see what doors God will open as we continue along this path to make His glory known to our neighbors all over Saline County!

BY HODGE WAGNON, ELDER

It was June 2011 and I was on my first mission trip. Our team served for a week in Honduras where our main job was to complete work on a concrete wall that would provide classroom space for children at a deaf school. The week was filled with difficult work, but by the end, the wall was finished and we were exhausted. The final day of our trip was spent seeing different sites in Honduras but there was one stop that changed my perspective forever. Tegucigalpa is a city of about two million people. All the trash that is picked up is taken to one dump. There are people that work and live in the dump. Everyday they sort through the trash looking for things that can be sold. Before we made it to the dump we met the missionary that runs the feeding ministry. He encouraged us to talk with people, hug and touch them. He explained that we are no better in God’s eyes than these people, and they need to be loved. When I heard that I thought sure, no problem. We are on a mission trip, that’s what we are here to do. Then we arrived at the dump, a mountain of nothing but trash. Every time we took a step we sunk just a little bit in it. There were cows and wild dogs that walked around eating the trash. Vultures were flying around by the hundreds. I walked around passing out bags of water, the whole time trying to convince myself to reach out and touch their shoulders and tell them God

loves them. Finally I got over myself a little and reached out to touch a man’s shoulder. I could feel God take my hand and put it on his shoulder. It was a huge moment for me when I realized that my sin looks and smells much worse than he did, but God sent His only Son to wash that sin away and I’ve done nothing to deserve His grace.

Every few minutes a trash truck would drive up with a new load. People would drop the food that they needed to sustain life and go chase a truck. Men and kids would jump on the truck while it was still driving and climb in the back and start going through the trash, trying to get the best of the trash before it was dumped.

After a few minutes of watching this I couldn’t help but realize that I do the same thing. I chase trash. I spend too much time chasing things that are going to burn. Why do I spend time and effort chasing things that have no eternal value? I began to see myself in these people. This scene was a living example of where my heart was. I have a picture of our time at the dump as the background on my computer to remind myself not to chase trash. It’s a daily reminder that without Christ I am rummaging through life chasing things that have no importance. It’s also a reminder that no matter what I do in my life, my best moments are but filthy rags at the feet of Jesus. I am nothing without Him.

Kingdom QuiltersBY ELAINE GREEN

God is using women here at Fellowship and around the city to make quilts for those who need to feel God’s hug. The quilts mostly go to chemotherapy patients, however, a small percentage go to older adults at Fellowship or to babies in crisis.

Women who have time to devote to ministry and who want to expand their skill sets find a home with Kingdom Quilters. Neither sewing nor quilting experience is required. Some quilters are experienced and love to share their skills and knowledge with those who are beginning.

Each year we work from January through October to make the quilts. In October we have a Wrap Up Celebration. It is always amazing to see how God multiplies the work of our hands. This year the women partnered together to make 175 quilts. We were all surprised by how many we were able to produce since just two years ago we thought 150 was unattainable.

Each quilt is made with love and is labeled so that the recipient knows that God has inspired the work, giving Him all the glory. Every quilt is prayed for as it is made and we hope that each recipient will feel God’s love as he or she uses that quilt.

Women who join our group come expecting to learn new skills, but along with that, they form deep friendships and build camaraderie. It is so amazing to see how God uses a skill to build His Kingdom. Our prayer is that God will use one of these quilts to remind someone of his or her need for Jesus as thier Savior.

Kingdom Quilters meets the first Monday and third Saturday of each month in room 2160 on our Little Rock Campus. To learn more, call Jessica at 501-224-7171 or email [email protected].
