ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Remove a ll jewelry, such a s rings , ID tags , brace le ts, e tc. If

jewelry or tools conta ct e lectrica l circuits , a direct short may

res ult. Failure to comply may result in s e rious injury or dea th to

personnel.

Be careful when working on or with e lectrica l equipme nt. Do not

be mis led by the te rm "low voltage". Voltages as low as 50 volts

can cause death. For artificial respiration, refer to FM 4-25.11.

(WP0057) Never work on electronic equipment unless there is another

the equipment. Failure to comply may result in injury or dea th to

Do not work on any item supported only by lift jacks or hoist.

Always use blocks or proper s tands to support the item prior to

any work. Fa ilure to comply may res ult in injury or death to

personnel. Do not lift a load grea ter than the rated load ca pacity of the crane

or ma terie l ha ndling e quipment. Failure to comply may result in

injury or dea th to pe rsonne l or dama ge to equipment.

Do not allow heavy components to swing while hanging by lifting

device . Fa ilure to comply may ca use injury or dea th to pe rsonne l.

Any part or compone nt tha t weighs be tween 50 lbs (23 kg) and

75 lbs (34 kg) must be removed with the a id of an a ss is tant. Any

pa rt or compone nt tha t weighs over 75 lbs (34 kg) must be

removed with the aid of an assistant and a lifting device. Failureto comply may cause injury or dea th to pe rsonne l.

Ens ure a ll cha ins , hooks, a nd s lings a re in good condition a nd

are of correct ca pacity. Ens ure hooks a re pos itioned correctly.

WARNING

SOLVENT CLEANING COMPOUND

Solvent cleaning compound MIL-PRF-680 Type II and III may be

irritating to the eyes and s kin. Use protective gloves and goggles .

Use in a well-ventilated a rea . Use respirator as nee ded.

Accidental ingestion can cause irritation of digestive tract and

respiratory tract, may cause lung and central nervous system

damage. Can be fatal if swallowed. Inhalation of high/massive

conce ntra tions can ca use coma or be fatal. First a id for inges tion:

do not induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention. First

aid for skin contact: remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin

thoroughly with soa p a nd wate r. If symptoms persis t, se ek

medica l a ttention. First a id for eye contact: flus h with wate r for

15 minutes or until irritation subsides. If symptoms persist, seek

medical attention. First aid for inhalation: move to fresh air. If notbreathing, provide a rtificia l res piration. If symptoms pe rsist, seek

medica l a ttention. Keep away from open flames and other

sources of ignition. Failure to follow this warning may result in

injury or death to personnel.

The flashpoint for Type II solvent cleaning compound is

141-198F (61-92C), and Type III is 200-241F (93-116C).

Improper cleaning methods a nd us e of unauthorized cleaning

solvents may injure pe rsonnel and damage equipment.

Fire e xtinguishers s hould be placed nearby when us ing solvent

cleaning compound. Fa ilure to follow this warning may res ult in

injury or death.

Cloths or rags sa tura ted with solvent cleaning compound mus t

be dispos ed of In Accordance With (IAW) authorize d facilitie s '

procedures. Failure to follow this warning may result in injury.

Eye s hie lds mus t be worn when cleaning with a wire brus h. Flying

rust and me tal particles may caus e injury.

WARNING

ADHESIVE

Adhes ive , s olvents, and se a ling compounds can burn easily and

are ha rmful caus ing immediate bonding on contact with eyes ,

skin, or clothing and give off harmful vapors.

If adhes ive, solvent, or sea ling compound ge ts on s kin or

clothing, wash immediately with soap and water.

If adhes ive ge ts in your eyes , try to kee p them open; flush them

with water for 15 minutes and get immediate medical attention.

containers and de s ignated compartments or deck storage

locations.

WARNING

PARTS UNDER PRES SURE

Wear sa fety goggles and us e caution when removing or ins talling

springs , snap rings , retaining rings , and other parts unde r spring

tens ion. Thes e pa rts can act as projectiles . Failure to comply may

result in injury or death to personnel.

During pres sure tests, ens ure a ir pres sure is drained to 0 psi (0

kPa ) before taking off any components. If pres sure is not

released, pla tes or line could blow off and ha rm personne l. Do

not drain a ir from tank with any pa rt of body in a ir spray path. Skin

embolisms and/or debris in eyes can occur from released

pressure.

High a ir pressure ma y be relea sed from valve s tem when valve

core is removed. S tay clea r of valve s tem a fter core is removed.Ens ure a ll pe rsonne l wea r suitable eye protection. Fa ilure to

comply may res ult in injury to personne l.

Stand clear of trajectory area during deflation or personal injury

or death may result.

If there is any res idua l pres sure in tank when re lief valve is open,

personne l may lose their balance and fall. Fa ilure to comply may

result in injury or death to personnel.

Failure to re lieve tank pres sure ma y result in sudde n, unexpectedloss of pressure. Failure to comply may result in personal injury

or dea th.

WARNING

TIRE OPERATION

Ope rating a vehicle with a tire in a n overinfla ted or unde rinfla ted

condition, or with a ques tionable defect, may lead to premature

tire fa ilure. Ensure tire ha s proper tire pres sure. Fa ilure to comply

may result in injury or death to personnel.

When inflating tires mounted on the vehicle, all personnel must

remain out of trajectory of the side ring and lock-ring as shown

by the area s indica ted. Fa ilure to follow proper procedures may

result in serious injury or death to personnel.

Fa ilure to place wheel/tire a ssembly in s afe ty cage prior to initia l

infla tion could result in s erious injury or death to pe rsonne l.

When a whee l/tire is in a res tra ining de vice , do not res t or leanany part of body or equipment on or a ga ins t the res tra ining

device , or injury or dea th could res ult.

While changing tires or while performing tire maintenance, stay

out of the tra jectory path. Fa ilure to comply may res ult in injury

or dea th to personne l.

Always use an inflation hose with an in-line gauge and a clip-on

chuck when infla ting tires . The ga uge and valve mus t be mounted

a minimum of 10 ft (3.10 m) away from air chuck.

Tire is heavy. Brace tire to ens ure tire will not fa ll over on you oron othe rs. Failure to comply may result in injury or dea th to

personnel.

OP ERATOR MAINTENANCE

GENERAL INFORMATION

SCOPE

This manua l is used for operation, ope rator maintena nce , and troubleshooting of the

Pa lle tize d Load System Trailer (PLST) M1076 A1. The PLST M1076 A1 provides a s imple

and effective way to load/unload a container from a vehicle to the trailer and back without

us ing a fla track. This is done with the us e of the ca rt that is loca ted on the back of the traile r

and the Load Handling S ystem (LHS) with e ither a Conta ine r Handling Unit (CHU) or

Enhanced Container Handling Unit (ECHU). The cart can be positioned in three different

configurations (container mode, fla track mode, or stored on the bumper) depending on themiss ion. Fla tracks and Engineering Miss ion Modules (EMM) can a lso be loaded/unloaded

onto the PLST M1076 A1 using the Load Handling System (LHS).

CORROSION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (CPC)

Corrosion P revention a nd Control (CPC) of Army mate rie l is a continuing concern. It is

important that any corros ion problems with this item be reported s o that the problem ca n

be corrected and improvements can be made to prevent the problem in future items.

Corros ion s pecifica lly occurs with meta ls . It is an e lectroche mica l proces s that causes the

degradation of metals. It is commonly caused by exposure to moisture, acids, bases, or

sa lts. An example is the rusting of iron. Corrosion damage in metals can be seen, depending

on the metal, as tarnishing, pitting, fogging, surface residue, and/or cracking.Plastics, compos ites , and rubbers ca n a lso de grade . Degradation is cause d by thermal

(heat), oxidation (oxygen), solvation (solvents), or photolytic (light, typically UV) processes.

The most common exposures a re excess ive hea t or light. Dama ge from thes e proces se s

will appear as cracking, softening, swelling, and/or breaking.

DESTRUCTION OF ARMY MATERIEL TO PREVENT ENEMY USE

Command decision, according to the tactical situation, will determine when the destruction

of the equipment will be accomplished. A destruction plan will be prepared by the using

organization unless one has been prepa red by a h ighe r authority. Refer to TM 750-244-6,

EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS , CAPABILITIES AND FEATURES

The P LST M1076 A1 Trailer carries fla tracks a nd ISO containers up to a gross weight of

35,750 (16,231 kg). Flatracks and Engineering Mission Modules (EMM) are loaded/

unloaded onto the PLST M1076 A1 us ing a Load Handling S ystem (LHS). ISO containers

are loaded/unloaded onto the PLST M1076 A1 using a Load Handling System (LHS) with

either a Conta ine r Handling Unit (CHU) or Enhance d Containe r Handling Unit (ECHU).

Trailer Capabilities

Capable of towing s peeds up to 55 mph (88.5 km/h).

loaded fla tracks. ISO containe rs a re loade d/unloaded onto the PLST M1076 A1 (Figure 1,

Item 7) us ing the Load Handling S ystem (LHS) with e ither a Conta ine r Handling Unit (CHU)or Enha nce d Container Handling Unit (ECHU). This is done with the us e of the ca rt (Figure

1, Item 1) that is located on the back of the PLST M1076 A1 (Figure 1, Item 7). The cart

(Figure 1, Item 1) can be positioned in three different configurations (container mode,

fla track mode, or stored on the bumpe r) depending on the miss ion. Guides (Figure 1, Item

2) la terally pos ition the FR on the tra ile r rea r stops (Figure 1, Item 8) and these loca te the

longitudinal pos ition of the FR in re la tion to the PLST M1076 A1 (Figure 1 , Item 7). These

s tops prevent the FR from s liding rea rward. A pne uma tic locking de vice (Figure 1, Item 6),

loca ted be tween the frame rails jus t above the s econd a xle , hooks to enga ge the lock points

and secure the FR to the PLST M1076 A1 (Figure 1, Item 7). An air valve controls the

pos ition of the lock hooks . Springs reta in the hooks in the locked pos ition. The PLST M1076

A1 (Figure 1, Item 7) has a s tanda rd 12 volt electrica l system with 24 volt military adapters.

Also provided are two intervehicular electrical connecting cables (Figure 1, Item 3) of

sufficient length to rea ch the towing vehicle . Two towing e yes , a t the rea r of the PLST M1076

A1 (Figure 1, Item 7) pe rmit towing with a medium-duty tow ba r. The spa re-tire ca rrie r is

behind the first axle (Figure 1, Item 5). The s pa re-tire is he ld in place with bolts through the

wheel bolt patte rn. The s pare tire a nd whee l ass embly can be raised and se cured in the

spa re tire ca rrie r by the tra ile r-provided ha
