Joe Galaskiewicz Department of Sociology CAMPUS Dear Joe, This is to formally express the Communication Department’s support for the proposed new Graduate Certificate in Computational Social Science. Assuming the courses can meet minimum college enrollment levels, we can offer the courses listed in the proposal on a reasonable rotation (probably every other year). More generally, I’m very happy for the faculty currently involved to continue making whatever contributions are needed to help the program thrive. The emphasis on “big data” is a growing one in Communication as well as across the social sciences, and I see this program as a being of huge benefit to our students in the future. Good luck with your new program. Sincerely,
Jake Harwood, Professor & Acting Department Head [email protected] 520-626-8681

December 5, 2017 Associate Dean Janet Sturman Graduate College University of Arizona Dear Dean Sturman: I am writing to express the Department of Linguistics' support for the proposal for a new certificate in Computational Social Science. Related members of our faculty have been involved in helping to plan this certificate. I have discussed course choices for the program with Professor Galaskiewicz, and he has incorporated several relevant courses from our department into the plans for the program. We are willing to contribute courses and to welcome students from this certificate program in our courses. Beyond those points, I believe that computational methods are an important area for social scientists in many disciplinary areas. I would welcome the presence of a coordinated group focusing on this topic on campus. Sincerely,
Natasha Warner, Head Department of Linguistics
MEMO To: Janet Sturman, Associate Dean, Graduate College, University of Arizona From: Diane Austin, Director, School of Anthropology Date: December 6, 2017 Re: Graduate Certificate in Computational Social Sciences I confirm that the School of Anthropology is willing to contribute coursework to the Graduate Certificate in Computational Social Science. At this time, we have one course, ANTH 595D: R programming for data analysis and visualization, taught by Assistant Professor Evan MacLean, which is included as an elective for this certificate. We welcome certificate students in this course. In addition, we are willing to consider including additional courses in the future, should that be appropriate and desired.

December 10, 2017 Joe Galaskiewicz Department of Sociology University of Arizona Dear Joe, This is a letter of support from the School of Information for the proposed Graduate Certificate in Computational Social Science. I have reviewed the New Academic Program – Implementation Request for the new program and I believe that the program is both timely and would provide an excellent education for the students. Students in the certificate will have additional skills and an advantage in the market place. There is no conflict with School of Information programs and opportunities for synergy. We welcome students in the certificate into the classes listed in the certificate including those below by the primary instructor or another instructor. Generally, all of these classes make minimal registration requirements.
