The Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008 requires all private
buildings >50,000 square feet to report their annual energy and water
use for public disclosure.
The Act requires all District-owned buildings >10,000 square feet to
report their annual energy use for public disclosure.
The annual reporting deadline is April 1.

CONSTRUCTION CODES UPDATE
Green Construction Code introduced in 2013
o All projects 10K+ sq. ft.
o Alternative compliance paths include LEED certified, Enterprise Green
Communities, ASHRAE 189.1 - 2011, and NGBS Bronze + ENERGY STAR certified
Current changes (still in progress)
o 23% reduction in site EUI (over 90.1 - 2010 baseline)
o Energy Conservation Code alternative compliance paths expanded to include:
o Appendix Z – DC’s voluntary NZE code for commercial and multifamily
o Living Building Challenge, Passive House (PHI/PHIUS), and LEED + LEED Zero
