What is Title I?

Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools.

The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child. Its purpose is to address the academic needs of students and to assist them in meeting their state’s academic standards.

The program serves millions of children in public elementary and secondary schools each year including eligible students in private schools.

Title I FundingThe federal government provides funding to states each year for the Title I program.The Florida Department of Education sends the money to our district, Pinellas County Schools.

The school district identifies eligible schools and distributes the Title I funds to the school.

Bear Creek Elementary implements a school-wide program, all students benefit from the supplemental services provided by Title I.  

Title I Programs Provide Supplemental Support

This can include:Additional teachers to create smaller classesParaprofessionals/Title I Hourly TeachersAdditional training for school staffExtra time for instruction (before and/or after school programs)Parental Involvement ActivitiesA variety of supplemental teaching materials, equipment, and technologyCoaches for staff and students

Title I BudgetParents assist in deciding how to use Title I funds.

Please attend meetings or complete surveys about our Title I Budget.All Title I schools must document that parents were involved in the budget process.

Input from the Principal, Parents, School Advisory Council, and School Staff determines how Title I funds will be used.

Title I Budget Bear Creek Elementary is provided $ 183,912to pay for services and

programs for our students. (Down by $35,848 from last year) The Title I Parent Involvement budget is $3,350.00 (Down by $1,150.00)

We use our Title I funds to pay for the following: Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Coach TPR Teacher Three Title I Teachers (part-time) Family & Community Liaison (part-time) Stipends for staff to attend Professional Development Training outside

of the contract day and work on School Improvement activities such as curriculum writing or data analysis.

Provide classroom instructional materials Family Involvement Activities Purchase Agenda Books Printing Services for Family Compacts, Parent Handouts and Flyers

Parent’s Right to KnowAs a Title I parent you have the right to be involved in the development of the following plans and documents for our school:School Improvement Plan (SIP) Compact Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) for the school and district You may request and attend meetings to express your opinions and to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of your children, *Please review these documents and attend meetings or complete surveys to share your input…we need and want you to be involved.

Parent’s Right to KnowBe provided information on your child’s level of

achievement on assessments in Reading/Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, and Science

Request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teacher and paraprofessionals that are working with your child

Principal’s Attestations Be informed if your child is taught by a non-

highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks.

Educational Standards

Florida’s academic content standards establish high expectations for all students.

Florida Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas. You may read more information by visiting, www.fldoe.org .

Also, your child’s teacher will be able to explain the standards for your child’s grade level.

Florida Standards Assessment(FSA)The FSA, which replaces FCAT, includes testing in English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, and writing and will be given between March 28 – April 8, 2016.Other assessments that occur throughout the year are:Running Records (All grade levels – minimum of three times per year)SAT 10 (1st and 2nd Grades)FLKRS (Kindergarten)ELA Module AssessmentsMath and Science Common Assessments (Grades 1 – 5)

Parent-School CompactEvery Title I School has a Compact. It is an

agreement between the parent, student, and school to encourage the highest student achievement.

Your child’s teacher will go over the Compact with you during a parent/teacher conference. You, your child and the teacher will sign the compact. You will be given a copy of the Compact to keep.

Please review and sign your child’s Compact, then return it to your child’s teacher.

Parent Involvement Plan (PIP)Our school’s PIP and the PIP summary are located at our Title I Parent Station and also on our school website.The PIP Sections include information about the following: Parent Trainings to increase student achievementStaff Trainings for engaging parentsCommunication methods between home and schoolFlexible Meeting TimesAccessibility for parentsCoordinating with other Federal ProgramsSchool Advisory Council (SAC) meets every other month at 6:30 pm. on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting is October 13th.Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm. Our next meeting is October 13th. Parents are invited to review our Parent Involvement Plan and make suggestions for the coming year. Notices of dates and times will be announced.

Parent Advisory Council (PAC)The District has a Parent Involvement Plan (LEA PIP). The summary of the LEA PIP is in the “Title I News”You may access it on PCSB.org, under Title I TabThe Parent Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing and revising it. PAC meets with the District’s Title I Family Education Specialist.
