Seymour Mar 7th – Grade 6/7 at Vancouver Opera (10am-11am) Mar 13th – Spring Music Concert – 7pm (“Music in the Movies”) NEWS AND UPDATES I have to admit, I love the snow! It reminds me of being young … when we were kids, snow meant fun! The possibilities were endless – sledding, snowball fights, snow forts, snow angels, and always the desperate hope for a snow day! As adults, we tend to take a more pragmatic view – shoveling, scraping, traffic, uncomfortable boots, getting our children dressed for the weather (not for the faint of heart). I feel that one of our most important tasks in education is to prepare students for the practicalities of adulthood while encouraging them to never lose sight of the joy and magic in this life. If we want our students to make a difference in this world, we have to let them fall in love with it first. As adults, I think we need to remind ourselves to stop and smell the flowers every now and then (or make a snow angel!) because I know how easy it is to slip into the mundane routines of just existing. It is the passionate, compassionate, and curious that have the greatest impact on our world, so we need to do all we can to inspire our children to keep their fire for life burning.

Respect and Diversity Week One of the most exciting things about being alive is the people we get to share this world with. This week, schools across the province will be celebrating diversity and respect in order to allow students to be proud of who they are while being respectful and kind towards others. Ms. Volkenant and our leadership students have done a wonderful job of organizing themes and activities for our school this week. Monday is “Cultural Day” where students and staff are encouraged to wear clothing that celebrates their cultural heritage. Tuesday will be “Free Speech Day,” and there will be activities in the foyer that will allow students to recognize the importance of the freedom of speech. On Wednesday, classes will be working through a fun “Escape Room” activity and will attend an assembly with an amazing artist named “RupLoops” – he brings musical styles and cultures together in incredible ways. Thursday will be “Identity Day” and students will dress up as their favorite emoticon. On Friday, students can buy tickets to sample food from around the world as it will be our International Food Fair (details for the Food Fair will be given to students early in the week). All proceeds from the International Food Fair will go to Habitat for Humanity! Please contact Ms. Volkenant if you still wish to donate food to this event.WHAT’S HAPPENING AT LFMSS? Middle School Communication: Just a reminder for about our Middle School homework/assignment communication tool: www.edmodo.com All grade six and seven homeroom teachers are using it as it is very helpful way to keep parents and students informed. Music: Mr. Thompson, Ms. Robertson, and our Jazz Students travelled to Idaho this weekend and did an amazing job at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. They sounded great and represented Fundy with pride and excellence. We are so proud of our music students and teachers!
