Germ Theory of Disease

* Evidence is now forthcoming that the existence of germs was knownto the ancient Hindus even in the remotest antiquity of time.

HAS THE HYPOTHESIS of the bacteriologicalcausation of disease any scientific basis ? This is a

very important question which requires the seriousattention of all thinkers and well-wishers of humanity. Theallopathic doctors approach many a disease on theassumption that germs give rise to them. For instanceCholera and Plague are supposed to be contagious, causedby the spread of their bacilli. Consumption is anotherdisease, which is said to be spread by Germs. The opinionis also held by some that a specific Germ is the cause ofinfluenza. What are these Germs? Where are they found? Have they any causal relations to the diseased conditionsor are they accompaniments only. If germs do not causediseases, why do medical practitioners still hold crookedviews and force compulsory inoculation, injection andvaccination. How far astrology can help us to combatdisease! These are some of the important points whichwe propose to discuss in this article.

We on our part do not contest the fact that there are Germsbut deny the theory that they are essentially the cause ofdisease. The germ theory has lead to what may almost betermed as a speciabranch of medical art, viz.,Bacteriology. It was Pasteur the father of this so-calledscience that is supposed to have discovered bacteriaabout* 60 years ago. From a biological stand point bacteriaare the lowest forms of life. There is nothing weaker, nothing less in integration, in power or ability to dominatea situation. They are unicellular organisms always feedingon dead and decayed matter. They are the lowestrepresentatives of life, the connecting link between theinanimate and animate. A microscopical observationreveals that, a bacterium never reaches a completelyformed cell. A single celled animal, such as for instancean amoeba, consists of a central nucleus, a cell wall andin between the two, protoplasm or the physical “basis oflife”. But in case of Bacterium, whenever you observe, you will find a part of the cell wall missing, or a part of the

protoplasm missing, or a part of the nucleus is missing. The bacterium is a victim of its environment utterlyincapable of controlling its movements, and not havingthe power of locomotion. According to the best text booksthese forms of life never feed on anything ExceptingDead Cells. Our readers must clearly bear in mind thispoint, viz., that anything bacteria can feed on would haveto be dead and if it were alive it would be stronger thanthe bacteria. On this assumption we can say that naturallythey could not destroy any living things. Whether a boil ora carbuncle, it is a pathological process wherein there ismucus, pus and other exudation which provide food forthe bacteria. These germs are never found in healthytissues. Where decomposition is going on you will findbacteria as in the alimentary canal. Bacterial propagationcan take place only in filth. Germs found growing in pusmedium represent what is known as Streptococci bacteria.A pneumonia germ is the one that grows in pneumococcusmedium. The bacteria we find growing in the lungs of atuberculosis patient will be rod-shaped. A culture ofstreptococci, when transplanted into pneumococcusmedium under suitable conditions take on thecharacteristics of pneumococcus bacterium. With theaddition of yellow light rays, we can transform the bacteriaof the rod shape into those of ball shape. Therefore wecan say that the type of pathological process or the matteron which germs feed, determines the kind of germ wehave. It automatically proves that the disease controls thetype of germ rather than the germs proving the kind ofdisease it shall be.

Let any modern medical doctor prove that germs causedisease by any other means than inoculation. Theprocess of inoculation is itself most repugnant to oursense of reasoning. Inject a person with distilled water. He will get fever. Would you say that distilled watercaused fever ? Inoculate the person with three dropsof the white of an egg in the proper manner and he willdie within 15 minutes. Vinegar inoculated similarlycauses death. Does this mean that the white of egg orvinegar caused death. Similarly, when germs are

inoculated, they produce disease. Any substance willgive a germ reaction when inoculated into the bloodstream. Medical men hold the superstition that animalsinoculated with cultivated Bacillus show immunity fromcertain diseases. This is absurd. The very fact that aninoculation of a certain bacillus is effected introducesa state of disease pertaining to that bacillus. It isimpossible for germs to cause disease. Medicalauthorities hold that 90% of germs are diseasedestroying and only 2% of the germs in the world causedisease. We can compare the bacterium to a plant andthe disease is the soil. Does the mango tree cause theearth ? If it does then bacteria cause disease. Diseasemust be present before bacteria can get into the body.In the pathological process, filth is primary and germssecondary. Eliminate filth and bacteria die out ofstarvation. The serum therapy theory is based on theassumption that if we introduce a virus into the organism,it will stimulate the body so that it combats that samevirus and the body will be upheld and protected againstthe attack of disease germs. Disease germs cannot move.It is superstition to believe that germs introduce disease.

Scorpio is a Keela Rasi governing germs and the 6th housein a horoscope rules disease. If the equilibrium of one ormore of the three Doshas, Vatha, Pitha and Sleshma isdisturbed by internal conditions on account of overeating, excessive indulgence etc., a state of disease makes itsappearance. Each planet controls certain humours. Whenthe particular planet is afflicted it disturbs by its electromagnetic influence, the Dosha under its control andnaturally, the disease indicated by the dosha makes itsappearance. When this fact is known in advance, it ispossible to prevent the manifestation of the indicationsby the means which have been explained in the works ofthe Ancient Maharishies.

Influenza for instance is a lever condition in which only acomparatively slight temperature is present, but there issevere prostration or weakness. The onset of the diseaseis sudden with chilliness or chills. There is extremedrowziness, headache and general aching in the back andextremities. The popular concep-tion is that a certainspecific germ is the cause of influenza. It is true that germsare present in large quantities during the course of certaindiseases, but it is equally true that they are present whenno such disease exists. We have seen already that germis not the cause of disease, but is merely one of themanifestations of a diseased condition. Influenza is causednot by germs, not by exposure to the elements, but by anaccumulation of poisonous materials within the body fora certain period of time preceding the attack. If the

excretory organs are comparatively normal these poisonswill not accumulate. This disease occurs in countries atthe time of an eclipse. When Saturn, Mars and Jupiterconjoin the disease is produced. The mutual aspectbetween the Sun and the Moon is another combinationfor this. Thus the primary cause of influenza lies in theastrological indications.

Generally speaking there are two kinds of pneumonia ;broncho pneumonia which involves the bronchial tubesand lobar pneumonia in which not only the tubes areaffected but also the lungs proper to a greater extent. Evilplanets in the ascendant indicate this disease as alsoMercury if afflicted. When the body is filled up with poisonsand the vitality low susceptibility to disease sets in.Tendency to suffer from consumption is shown in chartsin which Saturn and Mars are in the 6th house withpowerful aspects by the Sun and Rahu.

The much feared Tuberculosis is not caused by germs. It is a nutritional disorder. It is a destructive di-easeprocess caused by faulty nutrition. The germ is onlysecondary. Constipation and digestive disorders precedeit. Now we will consider the question of Cholera andPlague. The allopathic doctor is cocksure that these arecaused by germs. He forces compulsory inoculation asthe only immunity. If Cholera is a contageous diseasecaused by germs what is the fate of the scavengers whoclear vomits and motions of Cholera patients. When foodis not properly assimilated and diges-ted, Cholera iscaused. In the same family, one will be attacked whileother members will be free. People far away from Choleraarea get Cholera attacks in spite of inoculations ; whereis contagion here. Each organism has certain resistingpower depending upon the predominence of particular kindof Thridosha. The motions of Cholera patients no doubtcontain germs but they do not cause Cholera. Anothersuperstition under which the medical men are labouring isto think that plague is also caused by the spread of Germs, which are caused by rats and that distraction of rats isnecessary for its prevention. It is impossible to completelyexterminate an animal species on the erroneous suppositionthat they cause a diabolical disease. There are other causeswhich we propose to discuss in our future issues. Itsuffices now to say that, as proved above, the germ theoryof disease has no real existence, and that it is anexaggeration of the medical man. The masses must beproperly educated to appreciate the real causes of theseso called diseases and methods to be employed for theirprevention. Astrology is the only sublime science that canreally tackle this question successfully and suggestpreventive measures.

Continued from the June 2012 issue of The AeM

Maadhaveeyam lists the following as Adhama yogasthat are inauspicious Tithi Vara Yogas.

Sunday with Chaturthi, Shasti, Saptami or Dwadasi.

Monday with Ekadasi, Saptami or Shasti.

Tuesday with Panchami, Ashtami, Saptami or Dasami.

Wednesday with Prathama, Dwiteeya, Ashtami or Navami.

Thursday with Shasti, Ashtami, Navami or Dwadasi

Friday with Dwiteeya, Triteeya, Ashtami, Navami,Dasami or Ekadasi.

Saturday with Saptami, Navami, Ekadasi or Trayodasi

However, some take a select group of the above and termthem as Visha or poisonous Yogas as mentioned below.Sunday with Chaturthi. Monday-Shasti. Tuesday-Saptami. Wednesday-Dwiteeya. Thursday-Ashtami.Friday-Navami. Saturday-Saptami. MuhoorthaChintaamani qualifies Wednesday’s Prathama andSunday’s Saptami as Samvartaka. Also, select groupsfrom some of these go under different nomenclatures likeDagdha and Hutashana. Opinions differ with regard toAmirtha and Mrithyu.

Siddha yoga, (Tithi-Vara) which is auspicious, is formed onTuesday with Jaya Tithis (3/8/13), Wednesday with Bhadra(2/7/12), Thursday with Poorna (5/10/15), Friday with Nanda(1/6/11), Saturday with Rikta (4/9/14) Sunday and Mondayare out of this list. Here a contradiction could be noticed.Wednesday with Dwiteeya is Visha, malefic andsimultaneously Siddha, benefic. However, MuhoorthaChintaamani makes it clear that whenever a benefic yogaexits simultaneously with a malefic yoga, by suchcombinations, only the results of benefic yoga would prevail.

Bhadra Tithis on Mondays and Fridays, Jaya onWednesdays, Poorna on Thursdays and Rikta on Saturdaysproduce auspicious Vara yogas.

Coming to Vara Tara Yogas or combination of weekdayswith Nakshatras Maadhaveeyam holds the following asinauspicious.

One goes under the name of Dagdha yoga, whichis better known as Prabalarishtayoga in Tamil Nadu. The other goes under the name of Yamaganda Yoga. Inthe Amirtaadiyoga scheme followed, in Tamilnadu, underVara-Tara Yogas, slight variations are seen in the reckoningof the Amirta, Siddha and Marana Yogas.

There are some good combinations in Vara Tara Yogas. The following Amritayoga combinations are auspicious.

Without dwelling on the various other combinationsinvolving the Month Nityayogas and Karanas with theTithi Vara and Nakshatras let us conclude this discussionwith two important combinations of Tithi-Vara-Nakshatra,namely Pushkarayoga and Varayoga. The occurrenceof Dwipushkarayoga and Tripushkarayoga are indicatedin the Daily Guide. Both of them are formed only Sundays,Tuesdays and Saturdays when the Tithis Dwiteeya,Saptami or Dwadasi also join them. Dwipushkarayogais formed on such special days when the Nakshatras

Mrigasira, Chitta or Dhanishta occur. Tripushkarayogais formed when Visaka, Uttaraphalguni,Poorvabhadrapada, Punarvasu, Krittika or Uttarashadaprevail on these Tithi-Vara combines. The specialty ofthese two Yogas is that any good or bad event taking placeon dwipushkara timings have a tendency to repeat itselffurther on two occasions or happenings on tripushkaratimings three times, in a reasonable time. Unless one isnot too sure of blessing an event with remarks, ‘manyhappy returns of the day’ these times are to be avoidedfor any other occasions. It must be noted that these Yogasare formed on Bhadra Tithis (2-7-12) only. Further theNakshatras involved in causing Tripushkarayoga aretripada ones, those of the Sun and Jupiter, having theirthree quarters in one sign and the other quarter in another.Likewise, the dwipaada or ardha Nakshatras of Mars, having their two quarters in one sign and two quarters inanother create the Dwipushkarayoga.

Varayoga is another beneficial Tithi-Vara-Nakshatracombine on Sundays and Tuesdays, with Nanda Tithis andspecific Nakshatras. Nanda Tithis on Sundays with Chitta,Krittika, Aridra, and Satabhisha and on Tuesdays withMoola, Aslesha, Revati and Swati form this yoga.

One must remember that there are many exceptions formost of these rules and they are equally important. Therefore, one must not jump into any hasty decision toreject or accept any of these Yogas without a discerninganalysis. Pushyami, extolled for all its beneficial charmsis rejected for a marriage Muhoortha. However, inconjunction with a Sunday, it can create Sarvartha Siddhiyoga, considered par excellence for any purpose. Thereare many such commonplace contradicting notions thatdemand judicious conclusions.

A deep study of the multifaceted qualities of the five limbsof the panchang with various other elements like month, rasis and others will be of immense use and implication inselecting appropriate Muhurthas for divergent needs toget them reinforced with maximum possible potentialities. The information contained in our ancient texts, especiallyof the Prasna and Muhoortha, are so massive andbewildering with no dearth of contradicting and conflictingviews, that only an incisive study of them could help oneto understand their intense implications as for a selectionor rejection of a time for any specific purpose, beneficialor otherwise. As is true that any effort in the study ofseveral branches of this divine science could never becomplete, we have to be content that in our present effort,we have picked up only some pebbles, from here andthere, from the vast shores of Kalagjnana of this greatocean of Jyothisha.

I. IntroductionTippu is a controversial name inthe history of South India, especially in the historyof Kerala. Portrayed differently as a secularnationalist and a religious bigot, Tippu invokesmixed emotions as a result of confusions createdby different stories. Documents attest both thedescriptions mentioned above and leaving aside thefierce postures of the critics of Tippu, it can besafely concluded that he had a zeal for being

religious and he proved with his life that he livedand died like a warrior.

C. Radhakrishnan’s biographical fiction onTunchathezhuchan ‘Teekkadal KadanjuThirumadhuram’ presents a poignant account ofthe experience of Tunchathacharyan at the handsof the feudal lords of Malabar who were enemiesto both the people and the Gods of the region. The martial race of nayars were fooled into a

game of sacrifice which cameto be known as ‘chaver pada’ inthe name of the tutelary deityof the race, Bhadrakali and forhundreds of years, innocentyoung men got sacrificed atMamankam for political gains.

Tippu was no tyrant if weobjectively evaluate the rulersof the British period, 18-20thcentury, those who sacrificedBritish women and children inSepoy mutiny, those whobetrayed the Rani of Jhansi, those who compromised the

dignity as a Hindu to maintain their kingship. One who sacrificed his life for dignity obviouslyshall be of better morals and standards than thosewho treated British as dispensers of destinyand saluted them.

Here is an attempt to take a closer look at Tipu’slife astrologically.

d. 5th house is remarkable for its intellectual dimensionsand is indicative of his faith in destiny and the will tosacrifice self for the principles. He was notunscrupulous like the irreligious Hindu rulers whosided with the British to maintain their kingship.

Planetary positions indicate a great genius and a man ofgood qualities rooted in spiritual faith. The circumstancesand philosophy he subscribed to may not have been suitablefor the unfoldment of his personality.

Events Based VerificationThe following important events of his life and the dasa-bhukti intervals characterizing such events illustrate thetruth of the birth time and the vargas given.

The surprising dash on Madras at the age of 17(September 1767) happened during Venus- Rahu-Mercury. Rahu is placed in the war-like and heroicsign of Dhanus and Mercury is the 7th and 10th lord– lord of the opponent and one’s own authority.

1. His ascension to be the ruler of Mysore, 7 December1782 on the death of his father Hyder Ali happenedat the end of Sun dasa and Saturn bhukti. Sun andSaturn are in the 12th house together and Sun is inthe dasamsa (rasix10) Lagna as well.

An astrological assessment need not be concerned withthe social notions and history created by the victors.Irrespective of the controversies, the fact remains thatthe native had been a warrior who could not surrender

credentials and provided the right culmination for awarrior’s life. For his secular credentials, the followingdetails seen in the new world encyclopedia can serveas a pointer:

The portrayal of Tipu Sultan as a religious bigot is disputed, and some sources suggest that he in fact often embracedreligious pluralism. Tipu Sultan’s treasurer was KrishnaRao, Shamaiya Iyengar was his Minister of Post andPolice, his brother Ranga Iyengar was also an officer andPurnaiya held the very important post of “Mir Asaf.”Moolchand and Sujan Rai were his chief agents at theMughal court, and his chief “Peshkar,” Subba Rao, wasalso a Hindu. There is such evidence as grant of deeds, and correspondence between his court and temples, andhis having donated jewelry and land grants to severaltemples. Between 1782 and 1799 Tipu Sultan issued 34“Sanads” (deeds) of endowment to temples in his domain, while also presenting many of them with gifts of silverand gold plate. The Srikanteswara Temple in Nanjangudstill possesses a jeweled cup presented by the Sultan.

Can a religious bigot administer his country with so manyHindus in the most responsible positions? With such Hinduofficers in power, how could his army play havoc withHindus? Another big question is the ethics and moralityof a man who is ready to sacrifice himself for hisindependence. Can Tippu be regarded as ethically andmorally inferior to the Hindu Kings who chose to alignwith the British? Can Tippu be condemned for moral andethical lapses more than the rulers like those of Gwaliorwho betrayed even the Rani of Jhansi in her last and crucialfight?

The warrior he was finds reflected in his words: “It is farbetter to live like a Tiger for a day than to live like a jackalfor a hundred years” and emulation of such spoken wordsor heroism is rarely seen among other kings during theBritish period. From the age of 15 he had been a warriorand had shaken the East India Company many times withhis grit and dashing abilities.

It transpires that irrespective of his religion, he was bornto sacrifice himself for the human spirit of dignity andfreedom from all shackles.

Person Behind the ChartHe was a great ruler as may be noted from the followingdetails given in a website:

Despite the hectic political and military involvement, Tipunever ignored the main task of improving the life andconditions of his people. His improvement of agricultureand industry, his promotion of trade and commerce, his

novel system of the administration of justice, his buildingup of a navy, his opening of factories far and near, andhis dispatch of embassies to different and distant lands, linked the small State of Mysore with the bigger world. He built an exceedingly efficient system of administration, which launched upon a series of innovative measuresthat would transform his State into a humming center ofgreat industrial activity. He exerted his utmost to secureartisans and craftsmen from different countries tomanufacture guns, muskets and a host of othercommodities.

His reforming zeal touched almost every department oflife including coinage and calendar, weights and measures, banking and finance, revenue and judiciary, army and navy, morals and manners, and social ethos and cultural affairs. His creative vision envisaged the construction of a damacross the river Cauvery, the details of which still exist inan inscription installed at the gates of the present K.R.S.Dam. He was the one who developed the technology ofrocket systems, and thought of establishing a university, which he named Dar-ul-Umur.

As the temple grants suggest, he may have been a spiritualbeing who honoured plurality of faith and may have beenworshipping the Hindu Gods and Goddesses as well.

The horoscope when read from the 8th house as ascendanthas a great spiritual yoga with Jupiter, Mercury and Venusin Kendra joined by Mars in movable sign. Moon wasVargottama in Navamsa and Dasamsa and hence hasgreat vargabala.

He was born in Aslesha nakshatra with an extra-ordinarily strong Moon suggesting great devotion andoccult pursuits.

A strong eighth house and positions with referenceto that is indicative of a divine purpose in his life.

Tippu’s sacrifice happened on a very remarkable day,Chaitra Amavasya, 4 May 1799 when the Sun andMoon had conjoined Rahu in the Bharani nakshatra(very auspicious for tantrik rites). Solar eclipse onBharani made the day very exalted for worship.

IN THE COMITY of celestial bodies Brihaspati orJupiter occupies a piace of high eminence. He is the

preceptor of devas (gods ?). He is thus the supremepreceptor. That is why Guru has become a synonym forBrihaspati, although Sukra or Venus is also a preceptor inhis own right, being daityaguru (preceptor of all the non-godly ?). Brihaspati is the alchemist who by his touch oraspect turns dirt into riches, mud into gold. By his favourdoes one get on this earth a good and dutiful son fortranscendence from the circle of births and deaths. He isPutrakaraka par excellence. Thus his primecharacteristics place him as Jnanakaraka, Dhanakarakaand Putrakaraka. In these areas of life his influence isconspicuous and unfailing.

The subsidiary karakatwas (signification is a poor wordfor karakatwa) assigned to Brihaspati, selectively statedare: Tall, fat and phlegmatic with a heavy bone structure. He rules over yellow colour. The yellow sapphire Pockrajor topaz is his gem which augments the supply of hisfavourable radiation and vibration He is happy in treasurehouses and meeting places of the learned and the wise.Silver is favoured. He rulers over the stomach of thehuman beings especially the two intestines. Benzoine, quicksilver and tin also come under his purview. In modernterms, by well tested experience, we can aver that hisrulership extends to mining of gold, silver, quicksilver andtin, as well as to banking and insurance organisations. Hehas indirect rulership over coal mines because it is throughthe permutations of coal under various pressures that thegems he favours are formed. Illnesses arising out of hisintransigence are liver malfunction, flatulence, diabetes, degeneration of fat and, phenomenally, buddhibhramanaor non-coordination of intellect and facts.

This article is meant essentially for students of astrology. This then will be non-scholastic and where there is adeparture from the path of traditional interpretation in text-book terms readers are assured that no violence is doneto the basic tenets in the process of dovetailing theinterpretation to a study by experience gained over severaldecades to the ever changing conditions of life and of society.

Obeisance to

DevaguruY. KESHAVA MENON

Let us take the fundamentals first. Brihaspati is pureeffulgence by the qualities vested in him. He is thesupreme benefic among the benefics of astral bodies withwhom we have intercourse. Naturally, his qualities aresung in panegyrics by the sages for whom he was thesupreme refuge. They acquired their supra-sensoryperception of the phenomenal universe only through theblessings of Brihaspati. Even they have been constrainedto warn us of disparities arising from seeming displeasureof Brihaspati with our destiny indicated by the horoscopicchart. That is the least of it. What they have left unspokenis more relevant and crucial to us than what they havesaid in so many words.

I devote this article to unconventional forms ofinterpretation of conventional positions adopted by thecontemporary practitioners of the science. As Brihaspatior Jupiter is a benefic par excellence, we are told thathe is not subject to the unqualified dictum of the sages :Karako Bhavanasah: Is Brihaspati exempt ? By hissupreme wisdom Brihaspati walks the tight rope thatdivides the phenomenal from the real and satisfies boththe dictum and his own supreme lordship over the subject, which is extra-territorial.

Wherever illustrations are given here, please understandthat objectivity is mentained as well as a deep study ofother factors which might preclude the conclusion we arepersuaded to accept here. As Putrakaraka inkarakakshetra, the 5th, he should deny putra (son) or createmisery through the birth of a son lacking in wisdom. Letus look at the following two horoscopes closely.

Both horoscopes are hit by (a) karaka owningkarakasthana and (b) karaka occupying karakasthana, asfar as putra yoga is concerned. In the male’s horoscope, only the male planet the Sun who is Lagna lord aspectsJupiter in the 5th. Jupiter has Venusian Navamsa. In thefemale horoscope Jupiter is aspected by eunuch Saturnand Jupiter’s Navamsa is in the male sign of Mars.

There were two abortions and a, boy was born who hasgrown into manhood—a very charismatic person with afull blown Gajakesari Yoga in his 2nd house—Kumbha(Aquarius) Lagna. When Brihaspati is the sole influencein regard to progeny he limits children to one or two andthey become desirable for society. They come full ofwisdom and piety. Thus they are not of proven help in themundane sense to parents either.

To make a contrast let us consider the followinghoroscopes :

The husband’s horoscope has Putrakaraka Brihaspati(Jupiter) in karakakshetra (the 5th). Kshetra lord orBrihaspati’s dispositior is in the 12th (nashtakshetra) from

it and also combust. The planet, Mercury, is a eunuch andhas Navamsa in the house of Venus. In the wife’shoroscope the Lagna lord occupies the 5th, putrasthana, his house of debility. The debility is cancelled by the aspectof the 5th lord. The 5th lord is in the house of feminineVenus with Venus, which, again, is a badhakakshetra lordin bhadhakshetra. The 5th lord, however, is pureYogakaraka. Putrakaraka is himself in the 3rd, an inimicalhouse belonging to the eunuch planet Mercury who hasgone into nashtasthana. the 12th from there and hasneecha Navamsa.

The message is loud and clear. For over a decade aftermarriage, except for two very early seeming abortions, the wife would not get palpably pregnant. She had alsobecome very obese. In the Moon’s Antardasa of JupiterMahadasa of the husband they got a child—a female.Medi cally, the wife’s child-bearing capacity has beenterminated.

Take the case of Jupiter’s Dhanakarakatwa or wealth-signification. When he owns the Dhanakshetras (the 2ndand the 11th) and/or is posited in those houses he would,in obedience to the dictum, seem to be inhibiting thoseprospects. That is a partial view, though. We judge theseaffairs by conventional mundane standards. A person is afinancial success on this scale only when we see theperson wallowing in wealth and luxury. But such wealthcannot be earned through strictly fair means. Sukra orVenus is the preceptor for such fortunate persons. It isplanets like Venus, Saturn, Rahu that attract suchaffluence. Brihaspati (Jupiter) in his dignified rectitudegives enough for the person to live modestly without want.Enough is as good as a feast, is Brihaspati’s motto. Shouldthe Editor permit this digression, he would pass that intoprint when I say that he is a standing example of one wholived with this yoga of Jupiter, owning two Dhanasthanas, the 2nd and the 11th. Look at his life of exemplaryrectitude. Most others “who have run journals for thatperiod of time in India have become multimillionaires. Allthat wealth could only have come to them from adoptingmeans and methods not strictly in the line of ethics. Alittle newsprint quota sold in the black here, a littleblackmail here and there and an unethical advertiser beingpromoted are all tactics that stand approved socially inthis world. Not for our Editor, hank you. Yet, Brihaspatihas been true to him as he has been to Brihaspati. Thebeneficiary always harmonises life with the legitimateincome Brihaspati provides and provide he does. I puthere the first horoscope projected for consideration onthis point. 11th, with the Lagna lord aspecting back. The person hasnever been in want. Some people of piety alwaysunexpectedly brought to him what was needed to meetdemand.

As Jnanakaraka he is supreme in Jnanakshetras (the 5thand the 9th). But this does not ensure for the native popularrecognition for wisdom and very few with that blessinghave even earned an international award. That is not aposition that is evaluated in the market place of the world. The native would be found totally in different to suchexpression of any talent. The reader may look at the firsthoroscope again and wonder.

Brihaspati’s harmonious placement with the other twokarakas of the psyche, the Manaskaraka (indicator ofmind) Moon and Buddhikaraka (indicato of intelligence)Mercury are important for a life of fulfilment andhappiness. Gajakesari Yoga where Brihaspati is in a kendra(angle) from the Moon is a great blessing throughout thelife of the native. Impulsive actions uninformed by wisdomare precluded, saving a lot of harm to oneself. Brihaspati’s5th and the 9th aspect to the Moon also ensures to thenative timely advice from some wise person to meetchallenges.

Brihaspati is good when he is in the 4th or the 10th fromMercury. Mercury could well be in the 12th fromBrihaspati but not the other way round. Together (as inNixon’s horoscope) or in samasaptama (7/7) positionthere is such conflict between intelligence and wisdom, that usually wisdom abdicates in favour of the ruin thatlogic can bring to its devotees. They are called Rationalistsand like the English village school master althoughvanquished they will still argue. They are fortified nowwith Marxian epigrams and shibboleths to throw at you.

When Brihaspati and the Moon are shashtashtama(6/8), Sakata Yoga arises. This yoga is as inexorable in itsundesirable givings as Gajakesari Yoga is protectivethroughout the life of the native. Experience teaches usthat there is no cancellation whatsoever worth mentioningexcept that where they are both in their own elementsthe suffering comes from honourable circumstances andin honourably bearable environments. Take, for instance, the yoga arising from transposition of the Moon andBrihaspati, the former in Sagittarius. Take the Moon inTaurus, in exaltation and Brihaspati in Sagittarius. See allthe permutations possible. The effect of Sakata Yoga isfelt in each and every horoscope. In many or most ofthese cases the native does not feel it. Sakata is the wheel.Phenomenal life looks like the person who goes to thenadir and rises again to the acme and then falls and then

rises. The person does not feel it because when the personis in the jail he is given right royal treatment and when theperson is in vanavasa (wilderness) the monkeys and birdsare at his bid and call. But for mundane interpretation aSakata Yoga is a Sakata Yoga. Horoscope 1 had it and sohad too Pandit Nehru. When they went into jails they weredown and out and yet given first class treatment. Wherethe participants are well placed the Sakata Yoga effectsare conspicuous in their periods and inter-periods. Adiscriminating interpretation of the astrological chart needsto say little about it to the native himself, but can convincethe world that the principle is good and inviolable.

For the two common signs owned by Mercury Jupiter is abadhaka besides being a malefic (functional) owning twokendrasthanas. Where Jupiter is a functional malefic, should he be badly placed he causes harm in the negativeway of withholding wisdom from thought and actions. Evenwhere he is a functional malefic his aspect to the 5th andthe 9th is a boon to those houses and planets posited there. So too, Gajakesari Yoga will confer yoga effects whetherone or the other planet is a functional malefic.

Brihaspati’s aspect to tthe 12th guarantees success to themarch towards salvation. Saturn aspecting the house is afortification. It makes for endurance.

The mutual aspect of Jupiter and Mars in Karkataka(Cancer) and Makara (Capricorn) respectively emaciatesboth planets. So too Jupiter’s retrogression in Cancer andhis co-existence with another in retrogression in samehouse. That he is lustreless in Simha (Leo) held byastrologers in certain areas is not warranted either bySastric dicta or experience.

Through all the yugas only Brihaspati has remaineduntouched. Even in our topography (Kalapurusha), Brihaspatiowns Bhagyakshetra the 9th and Mukthikshetra the 12th.Obeisance to Brihaspati. Anyone who reads this article willbear his blessings because I have prayed. (FOR)

8. Natal Mars and transit Mars receive the aspect ofJupiter - 7th aspect in the natal chart and 5th aspectin transit chart.

9. The transit of Saturn was very favorable to Francoisas it was transiting the 11th sign from the Moon. TheSarvastavarga shows 34 bindus.

11. Analysis of the 10th bhava in the natal chart showsthat the 10th lord from ascendant, Saturn is posited9th from 10th house and was transiting 11th fromMoon in exalted position. It was in the state of Vakraand Vargottama.

12. The dasa bukthi also reveals. Jupiter’s role is veryinteresting at the time of victory. Francois was runningJupiter Dasa which commenced on 14th March 1999and Mars bukthi was in operation at the time ofvictory. Mercury antara was operating from 1st May2012 till 20th June 2012.

19. It is interesting to note the play of the numbers innumerology. His date of birth is 12th August 1954.The total number reduced to a digit counts(12+8+1954) to 3. The birth date number is 12=3.His number 3 is ruling. Vital number is (3) and corporalnumber is also (3).Thus, number 3 which is ruled byJupiter will show administrative capabilities.

20. He won the election in socialist party as candidatefor French election on 16th October 2011(16+10+2011).The total date number combinedtogether works out to 3.

21. We can also note that Francois won the election bypopular vote by number which amounts to 3.

22. Popular votes 18004,656=30=3. There is a significantrelation with number 3 which rules Jupiter. Even thepercentage 51.6 works out to 3.

23. A very impresive figure is derived from his currentage 57, which amount to 5+7=12=3

24. Will Francois Hollande bring progress to the Nation?a. Being born in vargottama amsa and the atmakara

Sun (25:30) in Kumba navamsa, the Jaiminiaphorism says “Tatakadayo dharmay”.If the Atmakaraka occupies Kumbha Navamsathe person will do charities in the shape ofconstructing wells, tracks, topes or gardens, temples and dharmasalas or chatrams.

25. Mercury and Moon are posited 10th from karakamsaaspect by Jupiter. Jaimini says “Shubhadrishtestheyaha.”

If in the 10th from Karakamsa, there is beneficial aspect, theperson will be one of great determination and never capricious. With this, we can conclude that the transit (gochara) ofplanets has contributed much to the success of FrancoisHollande, the newly elected French President.

INVARIABLY I POSE ONEquestion to the youngsters in my

counselling sessions, “Who is yourRole Model” (RM). And notsurprisingly they come out withnames of film stars and sportsmen, mostly cricketers. Going further, I getto know that some of them have haddifferent RMs in the school, collegedays. May be they started emulatinga person who caught their imaginationat that point of time and flitting fromone RM to another was a commontrait noticed in both the genders(except that the girls are/weresomewhat circumspect in givingreason for their choice). Shockinglyexcept a few, none of them mentionnames of great leaders like MahatmaGandhi or other successful people.

Hoping there will be at least one RMfrom the family, I encourage themto think of their grandparents orother relatives. Surprisingly only afew would go up to some point insearch of a name and when I askthem why don’t you ask the parents, the response comes with a grin thateven our parents can’t help us muchin this regard. Since they don’t havean iota of information about theancestors and their struggles thisgeneration moves away from thefamily axis to decide a rank outsideras their RM.

In one of my sessions I asked ayoungster who all helped him torecover when he had met with anaccident sometime back.

He started mentioning his parents, friends and the hospital staff. I askedhim why didn’t you call your RM toinform about the accident or he didn’tcall you. I was told that sometimeback when his RM was down withillness this youngster was very upsetand also did some ‘get well soon’ kindof puja for him. I could now see theyoungster begin to brood. He askedme in turn, Sir, how can I expect himto call me when I don’t even knowhim personally nor I doubt if he knowsmy existence at all. I caught on tohis predicament.

“This is exactly what I want to tellyou, my dear friend. Your RM doesnot even know you, he remains onlyin your imagination. Don’t forget hisachievements, on which you weaveyour fanatical ideas, are confined toa narrow domain, for his personal gain. The community at large never getsany tangible benefits from suchpeople. Even if they indulge in anysuch social activity it‘s merely fortheir own publicity and self-promotion.

“Whereas great leaders, including yourancestors sacrificed their happinessand even life for the benefit of theirpeople. Though many of us had notseen them, their indelible contributionto the society is precisely the reasonwhy people remember them eventoday. Let us not forget what we aretoday is to a larger extent due to theirtoiling.”

I asked him, do you now realisewhere they are different as people. I

could see this query made himintrospect and slowly he startedrealising that something was amiss inhis approach towards life so far. Justto give some reprieve to thisyoungster and understand hisupbringing a little more, I turned tohis parents and asked them twoquestions;

1. Whether they are aware of theirward’s role model ?

2. Why do you think he has chosenan outsider as his RM ?

The answer was more revealing, ifnot shocking. It seems the parents’also in their younger days had RM inmovie stars, sportsmen and one ofthem attended an event by skippingthe class. If you ask me whether suchparents have achieved somethingsubstantial in life, I would rather skipthis question to avoid any controversyat this juncture. My conclusion isobvious. How can such parentsexpect their ward to be different fromthem, when it is said ‘birds of samefeathers flock together’. In factsome of them don’t even have anyclue about their child’s RM till Iopenly spelt out. But I remind theseparents that their growing up erawas vastly different and the societywas empathetic to others’ problems .Those days the social fabric wasstrong and friends took interest inother families’ well being too.Today’s modern youth live in acocooned environment, in a mostcompetitive world and the society has

no time for others even apathetic toothers’ problems. Under suchcircumstances an individual‘scapability alone will sustain him andno way aping his fictional RM willhelp!

Equally my concern is that theseyoungsters only outwardly see theirRM’s achievements, but never tryto understand what all went behindthose so called success, some ofwhich can’t be openly mentioned. Bychoosing inappropriate RMs not onlytheir priority gets misplaced, butderailed so much that they lose sightof the golden opportunities knockingat their door steps.

I wonder what is the use of parentsgetting worried now. How many ofthem spend their qualitative time withtheir growing up children, dinetogether, talk about positivedevelopments in around their families, friends and the society? I feel someof them conduct themselves in a mostbusiness-like manner even at home.It seems these days some of theparents seem to be merely satisfiedby providing materialistic comforts totheir children whereas impartingvalue system is clearly missing. HereI will not merely stop at the doors ofthe parents alone. For various reasonsolder members of the family also donot intervene in time to tell what isgood or bad and the Society alsocannot absolve from its share ofresponsibility in shaping up theyounger generation.

Look at the kind of reality shows airedon the television these days. Some ofthe kids participating in such showsare unable to utter even a fewsentences cohesively , whereas theyare asked to exhibit their talents infront of a huge audience. Pardon mefor drawing an analogy with themonkey shows we witness, wherethe handler makes the poor animal

do all kinds of tricks. I could imaginehow many of these parents get tensedbehind the screen, not to mention afew of them breaking down whentheir child loses the competition as ifentire roof has fallen on them. If thesociety chooses to race ridiculouslytowards such synthetic success, howcan we expect the current generationto be healthy, psychologically andmorally. Can any society prosperwithout self-esteem, self-confidenceand believing in one’s own ability!

To me a RM is one who has all thecharacteristic required to be a goodhuman being, contributes to theoverall welfare of the society and notmerely look for water bubbles kind ofpersonal glory. Day in and out wecome across many untowardincidents that happen around theseRMs. Let us not forget that each andevery parent has a moral responsibilityto their wards and also to the societyin which they live. Parents shouldnot become desperate when theirmisguided children get into troublelater on in life. I would think it isimperative for the parents to spendsubstantial portion of their time withtheir children in the formative age,by engaging them in qualitativeactivities like sports, discussing aboutpositive developments, celebratingoccasions and praying together. Alsothey can talk about family history, ancestor’s achievements, storiesfrom epics like Ramayana andMahabharata, great rulers, freedomfighters and so on. If the parents think

they are not articulate enough tonarrate stories, they can rely on video/audio cassettes which are availablein plenty. Let us not forget that eachand every parent has a moralresponsibility not only to their wardsbut also to the society in which theylive.

Role of AstrologyAt this juncture I would like tomention the role astrology can playin shaping up the future of youngsters. The parents can consult a goodastrologer to know about thecharacteristics that will manifest asthe child grows up, kind of education, other interests he or she would pursueand the quality of friends they willhave etc. His advice would help theparents to shape their child’scharacter from the formative stageand can ensure they are on the righttrack. If required the parents mayseek other professionals’ help toidentify the child’s personality traits, attitude and aptitude for a particulartype of education, and whether toopt for service or business as careeroption. If one believes in prayers, pujakind of remedial measures also canbe considered and this certainly helps.

India has the youngest population withmore than forty percentage of theyouth below the age of 25. Let us allthink and together contribute to ourgreat nation by shaping up the futureof these youngsters.

IN EARLY TIMES there was a deep link betweenAstrology and Ayurveda. The astrologer was normally

aware of ayurvedic principles while the Vaidya madeuse of the astrological aspects to identify and treat thedisease.

While Dr. Kallman of Psychiatric Institute, New York(USA) said, “Every being has a clock set at the momentof his birth, which predetermines particularly illness andaccidents”, Dr. B.V. Raman held that “An experiencedastrologer could indicate the predisposition of a persontowards heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer etc.with considerable accuracy.”

Detecting an AilmentThe 6th, 8th and 12th houses of the horoscope are said tobe malefic houses. When a planet is placed in any of thesehouses, or the lords of these houses are placed in otherhouses or are conjoined with natural malefics or a diseaseinflicting planet, then in the dasa or antardasa of the inflictedplanet, disease is indicated in the parts signifying the planet, the house and the sign (rasi). 6th house is the house ofdisease and 6th lord is responsible for disease. 8th houseand 8th lord indicate chronic, incurable disease and death.12th lord and 12th house indicate suffering andhospitalization. The dasa and antardasa of the lords ofthese houses and the planets which connect with thesehouses or the house lords should be judged carefully.Besides this the dasa of the maraka planet should be alsojudged.

Longevity is judged from 8th house. Since the 8th fromthe 8th is 3rd, the 3rd house is the alternative house oflongevity. Expenditure (or loss) of any house is judgedfrom its 12th house. So 12th from 8th will be 7th and 12thhouse from 3rd will be 2nd. 7th and 2nd lords are calledmarakas. 22nd drekkana of ascendant is called the reasonof death. Judgment should be from ascendant, from Moon, from Sun and from Aries rasi to predict any disease.

An Astrological Study

“A physician without the knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician.”

- Greek Physician Hippocrates, father of Allopathy

Planets owning two houses should also be considered. For Cancer ascendant, Jupiter is the 6th lord and the 9thlord. As Sagittarius sign is Jupiter’s moolatrikona and isthe 6th house for Cancer ascendant, Jupiter gives the resultof its 6th lordship.

Cancer DiseaseCancer is a disease which is almost incurable. It is amalignant tumor, which can grow in any part of body andspread rapidly into the whole body. Rahu is responsiblefor all malignant growth. Malignancy is indicated whenmalefic and strong Rahu

Relates with 6th, 8th, or 12th house or with 6th, 8th or12th lord and aspects any of these houses or is placedin any of these houses

Is placed in maraka house or aspects the marakahouse or conjoins with maraka planet

Besides the above, when a house is afflicted by the lordsof evil houses and the malefic planets Mars, Saturn andRahu, then the possibllity of the native suffering fromcancer is indicated. The strength of ascendant and its lordis also to be considered.

When ascendant, its lord and indicator of that body part isheavily afflicted, when ascendants of Sun, Moon andnatural ascendant (Aries sign) and the house indicator ofthe body part are heavily afflicted, then cancer in thatpart of body is likely. When 6th lord is placed in theascendant, 8th or 12th house and Mars, Saturn, Rahu relatewith that house or its lord afflicting any house, then canceraffects that part of the body as indicated by the afflictedhouse or planet. Ketu is also responsible for hiddendiseases. He is to be judged as karaka for Cancer. Wecan conclude that Cancer disease is identified by studyingRahu, Ketu, Saturn and Mars and their relation with thelords of 6th, 8th and 12 houses. When these planets conjoinwith the maraka, then Cancer is indicated

Leukemia or Blood CancerLeukemia is a disease that has an increase of white cellsin the blood. When there is malignant growth in whitecells of blood and red cells are destroyed, Leukemia issaid to set in. This means red cells are not created andthe need for pure blood is seen. After some time the redcells of the new blood are also destroyed. This disease iscommonly known as ‘blood cancer’. Moon and Mars arethe significators for blood. Cancer, Scorpio and Piscesand 4th , 8th and 12th house signify blood.

Laws of the diseaseIf ascendant and its lord relate to 6th house, 6thlord, Rahu, Ketu, Saturn and Mars; the watery signsCancer, Scorpio and Pisces are heavily afflicted;and the 4th, 8th and 12th houses are afflicted byRahu, Ketu, Saturn and Mars then there is indicationof blood Cancer. A holistic judgement would be tostudy from the ascendant, the Moon, the Sun andAries sign. It is also necessary to judge if the natural6th lord Mercury is afflicted or not, the karaka ofblood — Moon and Mars are afflicted or not by themalefic. If Moon and Mars are found to be weakfor any reason, afflicted by malefic Rahu or Ketu, debilitated, and placed in the 6th, 8th, 12th or relatewith 6th , 8th or 12th lord then blood cancer isindicated.

Rahu is responsible for all types of malignant growth andKetu is responsible for hidden diseases – diseases thatcannot be detected easily. When Rahu and Ketu (withoutany benefic aspects) afflict the 4th, 8th and the12th or thelords of the respective houses and the watery signs(Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) and Moon and Mars relatewith the 8th lord then it points to blood cancer.

a. Ascendant is in the star of Ketu. Ascendant lord is in12th house in the blood indicated house of Scorpioand in the star of the maraka and badaka Mercury, and aspected by Rahu and Saturn. The 12th lord Mars, indicating blood is in the ascendant and conjoinedwith the 6th lord Venus. Mars and Venus both are inthe star of Ketu with the result both the ascendantand its lord are afflicted.

b. Mars , who is in the star of Ketu and joined with 6th

lord Venus is aspecting the watery sign Cancer. Thelord of that sign, Moon is placed in 3rd (8th from the8th) conjoined with the 3rd lord Saturn and aspectedby Rahu. Scorpio sign is aspected by Rahu (which isin the star of Mars) and Saturn (the maraka). Thelord of the sign, Mars is conjoined with 6th lord Venusand is in the star of Ketu. The watery sign of Pisces is aspected by Mars and Jupiter (who in turn isaspected by Saturn and Rahu). Jupiter is in the 12th

and aspected by Saturn and Rahu. So all the waterysigns and their lords are afflicted.

c. Natural 6th lord Mercury itself is the maraka andbadaka. Mercury is in the 12th house and in hisenemy’s house and aspected by Rahu and Saturn andis therefore afflicted.

d. The 8th lord Moon is in 3rd house (8th from the 8th)and aspected by Rahu. Moon is also the lord of 22nd

Drekkana and hence afflicted.

e. Indicator of longevity and general health, Sun is inthe 12th house in the star of Saturn and aspected bySaturn and Rahu. Sun is also conjoined with marakaand badhaka Mercury and gets afflicted.

f. Blood denoting houses - 4th, 8th and 12th house havefallen in the watery signs. Therefore the houses andtheir lords get afflicted as explained above (b).

g. 6th house is aspected by maraka and badaka Mercuryand afflicted Jupiter and Sun. 6th lord Venus is placedin ascendant in the star of Ketu and conjoined withblood representing planet Mars. This means 6th houseand its lord are afflicted.

aspected by Saturn and Rahu, and conjoined with2nd and 11th lord Jupiter. In 12th , there is also therasi aspect of Mercury (8th lord), Jupiter (2nd and11th lord) and Sun (7th lord). The 12th lord isplaced in ascendant, conjoined with the 6th lordand aspected by Rahu. The blood indicatorhouses and their lords are therefore afflicted.

c. 6th house is aspected by 3rd lord Mars and Jupiter.6th lord being the karaka of blood is aspected byRahu . Therefore 6th house and its lord areafflicted.

i. The karaka for blood Moon and Mars are bothafflicted.

j. In respect of Sun Ascendant:

a. Ascendant is aspected by Rahu and Saturn andconjoined by 2nd lord Jupiter and 8th lord Mercury.Maraka Jupiter is in the star of 8th lord. The lordof ascendant Mars is in the 2nd house i.e. in themarakasthana and in the star of Ketu. That Marsis also conjoined with 7th (maraka) and 12th

(karaka for blood) lord Venus, and Venus is inthe star of Ketu. So ascendant and its lord areafflicted.

b. In the 6th , Ketu is placed in his own star andaspected by Saturn and Rahu. 6th lord Mars isafflicted. This means 6th house and lord of 6th

house both are afflicted by Rahu, Ketu andSaturn.

c. In 4th house and on the lord of 4th house there isaspect of Rahu. Moon – karaka for blood isplaced in the 4th and aspected by Rahu andSaturn. The 8th house is aspected by Rahu , 6th

lord Mars and maraka Venus. Mars and Venusboth are in the star of Ketu. 8th lord Mercury ishemmed between malefics and aspected byRahu and Saturn. Rahu is placed in the 12th housein the star of Mars. The 12th lord Venus is in the2nd house maraka sthana, in the star of Ketu, conjoined with 6th lord Mars. This means bloodindicate houses 4th, 8th and 12th and their lordsare afflicted (continued).

In the only known date of Hyder Ali discussed byDR. B. V. RAMAN (Notable Horoscopes), one cansee a remarkable conjunction of planets in the 7th from8th while the lord of 8th is placed in 4th, the 9th frompole 2. Horoscope in fact is an overlapping picture ofthe present life from ascendant to seventh house andthe past which is hidden from eighth house to 2ndhouse. It is this hidden segment of the past that decidesthe longevity (8th house), fortune (9th), karma (10th),gains (11), losses (12) etc. Eighth house, in fact, is thehouse of resurrection as the seventh marks the houseof death for the body which is represented by the firsthouse Lagna. In other words, the eighth can bedescribed as the house of eternal life and when theeighth dominates present becomes insignificant. TheKendras of eighth (2-5-8-11) are indicative of thespiritual grace of an individual and this is precisely thereason that makes the 5th and 11th house significantfor personal gains. Tenth house of the past becomesthe fifth in the present and the fourth house of the pastbecomes 11th for the present.

ConclusionsIt is meaningless to look into history and judge peopleor society. One seldom gains a complete picture of the

circumstances that shaped the destiny. Carrying thepast into the present is also meaningless because oneknows only a very limited past, only a fraction. Unlessman gains a complete knowledge of the game of life, any analysis of people’s lives shall remain a poor dramalike the blinds describing an elephant.

In Kerala, lot of hue and cry happens in the name ofTippu that he had destroyed the Hindu temples and dida lot of forced conversions to Islam. May be some ofhis accomplices did so as it happens in the case ofcorruption in these days. Yes, may be the responsibilityrests with Tippu as the man who led the forces butindividually he may have little to do with the crimes.Had he been selfish as to seek the gratification of hissenses through evil means, he would not have beenready to sacrifice himself for the sake of dignity andindependence of his kingdom.

We must judge a lamp by its light rather than by itsshadow and as far as human life is concerned, thegreatest light it can cast is self sacrifice. He had allluxuries at his command and stood to maintaineverything unlike other kings who compromised theirdignity by kneeling before the Britishers.

JUPITER IS SAID to be the son of maharshi Angira andPurohit of Devatas. The above sloka is not an astrological aphorism but merelyan observation. Let’s play with Jupiter results by analyzingthe above chart. The native was born in Mercurymahadasha and Revati nakshatra. He had many problemsof the stomach. He also had meaningless mental thoughtsfrom the beginning of the major period of Mercury. 4th

house is very afflicted by 3rd and 8th lord Venus and 11th

and 12th lord Saturn. The 4th lord Mercury is also inbetween Rahu and Ketu. Significator of mind the Moonis also aspected by Saturn. One of the dictum runs asfollows:

Lakshando Doshan Hanti Devendra MantriKendram Praptah

Why is Jupiter, being in the ascendant, unable to give relieffrom all these problems?. The native has good education

and has been a high ranking scholar in his studies in spiteof financially not being well. Family wise he has not donewell with frequent quarrels between parents. His goodeducation was due to the beneficence of Jupiter. He hasa lot of affection for his mother and vice-versa (due topresence of Venus in 4th house). In May 1997 when hewas in M.Sc. IInd year, he quarreled with his best friendand was convicted with with charges of kidnapping androbbery by the police. Caught by police and spending awhole night under police custody, he was freed. Duringthis incident Jupiter bhukti in Venus mahadasa was on. Ittherefor is suprising that this happened.

Ascendant lord Jupiter in combination with Moon in hisown house is a good combination. This is Kendra trikona(rajyogakari) house, for which Parasara said kim waameaning kya kahna). Gajakesari is also there calledAchhunda Rajayoga (known to diminish the ill effectsof a horoscope). Of course Lagnesha PanchmeshaRajyoga and Gajakesari Yoga both are highly afflictedby 11th and 12th lord Saturn’s tenth aspect. Gajakesari isalso weak due to Moon having greater degree than Jupiter. There is papakartari yoga due to Sun (which is exalted)and Mars but it is weakened due to the placement of Jupiterin ascendant. The benefic aspect of Jupiter helped thethe native being freed from the charges of kidnappingand robbery. He did well in his studies and got hisdoctorate. It may be noted that that due to affliction ofVenus with Saturn in 4th house and aspect of Saturn onMoon placed in Kendra, the native was highly sexual andpassionate. In the major period of Venus and Saturn minorperiod, the native fell in love (of the same caste) but alsolost his mental balance. The ascendant lord Jupiter placedwith 5th lord Moon in ascendant made the native highlyBharmabhiru. This scribe predicted that neither marriagenor physical relationship will take place. These were thepredictions of only Saturn bhukti. Let me ask the educatedreaders of our magazine a question. If simultaneouslytwo yogas are running which one will dominate? There isAmsavatara yoga formed by Jupiter, Venus and Saturn –

24 JULY 2012 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

BHAVA IS AN IMPORTANT key to interpretation ofhoroscope. It provides the necessary base to co-relate

man and cosmos. In astrological parlance, Bhava denotesman and his worldly affairs; zodiac signs depict extra-terrestrial influences; and their combination marks theconnecting link. It is a well-established astrological truththat such of the aspects of life that come under the beneficinfluence of planets flourish in real life. Conversely thosethat are subjected to malefic influences are found to witherand perish. Rest of the things that remain free from anykind of planetary influence continue to be governed bynatural laws such as biological processes of growth anddecay and the like. All those inconsequential activities andhappenings in life that merely serve as “‘time-fillers” withno contribution towards evolution of the soul come underthis category. Mostly it is these activities that easily submitto the free-will of man and lure him to believe that he isthe master of himself. Therefore it is the thoroughnesswith which each of the Bhavas is scanned for planetarypotency and the dexterity with which they arc segregatedand linked to specific activity of man that is the truemeasure of proficiency in judging horoscopes.

A horoscope begins to appear amazingly clear when setrules of astrology are applied. The basic rules ofinterpretation are apparently simple, but are effective inrevealing the meaning, only when applied as directed. Inusage, the vital instructions on its application are ignoredand the rules are applied in a slipshod manner, leading tohit-or-miss predictions. With a view to emphasise theirsignificance, a few important among these rules arcdiscussed here in their proper perspective. Should theyappear as new or novel it is because of the added emphasislaid on them.

Implied significance of the relative placement of a Bhavaunder natural zodiac scheme is often overlooked whilejudging results of the Bhava. The complexion of Bhavaundergoes modification consequent to its position in zodiac.A Bhava that offers good scope for its significations toflourish may impose constraints on its development withreference to different zodiacal signs. After all, the Bhava

Jeeva and Sareera

H. R. SHANKAR

is the soil in which the results offered by planets has tosprout and bloom. Unless the soil offers nourishment, thegrowth may get stunted ; and should conditions be adverse,it may not sprout at all. In this context, we may reflect onthe fact that there must be a definite purpose and deepmeaning in the arrangement of zodiacal signs and indetermining the ownership of these signs. In fact thenatural zodiac scheme provides the masterkey to theinterpretation of horoscope and all other techniques stemfrom this root-concept. For people bom in different signsof the zodiac an entirely different basic pattern of lifeemerges. It is therefore understandable that Bhava resultsoffered by planets by virtue of their disposition in theradical chart can flourish only to the extent permitted withinthe framework of the Bhava. As a preliminary step tojudging Bhava results, one should necessarily ascertainthe scope offered or constraints imposed on Bhavaconsequent to its placement in the zodiac scheme.

A simple method in this context is to place the respectivelords in each of the signs and examine the criss-crosseffects of planetary influence on the concerned Bhava.Mars goes in Aries and also into Scorpio : Jupiter is to beplaced both in Pisces and Sagittarius and Saturn inCapricorn and Aquarius and so on. For purposes ofillustration, let us take the two adjoining signs Capricornand Aquarius that have a common lord in Saturn andexamine the impact on a few selected Bhavas withreference to these two ascendants. Although Saturnhappens to be the Lagna lord for both these two signs asLagnas, one can easily mark the variance in theirrespective complexion and character. As Lagna lord forCapricorn, Saturn owns the 2nd house also. Being anatural malefic he is free from any blemish of ownershipof the kendra (angle). By v irtue of ownership of bothbenefic houses Saturn is a perfect benefic. The ascendantsign itself receives aspect from the Moon in Cancer, anatural benefic. There is no malefic aspect on the Lagnasign. The Ascendant and its lord that constitute thequintescence of all the Bhavas emerge strong and benefic. This offers clear scope and opportunity for the native to

inHoroscope Judgment

rise to any height in life. Even a native of the weakestradical chart, under this basic pattern, can hope to die abetter man than the one he was born. Lucky is the keynoteof Capricorn Ascendant.

Saturn emerges weak, burdened with ownership of thebad 12th house and with blemish of malefic as well forAquarius Ascendant. For a Lagna lord this is clearly ahandicap. Lagna itself suffers badly due to aspect fromtwo malefics, both being enemies of Lagna lord—the Sunaspects from Leo and Mars from Scorpio. ft is also devoidof any benefic aspect. Placement of Aquarius sign in thenatural zodiac thus imposes great constraints on Lagna. Both Lagna sign and its lord emerge weak and blemishedas malefic. Unfortunate is the keynote. This need notnecessarily imply that these natives would never prosper. They can certainly reach great heights of prosperity andfame, consequent to the strength of radical planetarydisposition. But, in spite of success, some kind of a sufferingis writ large on the basic pattern. During the last periodsof their lives this is likely to surface in one form or other.

Similarly, the complexion of successive Bhavas varysignificantly with reference to each of ascendants. The4th Bhava for Capricorn Ascendant has Mars as its lord. This house (Aries) has aspect of Saturn (Aquarius), ofJupiter (Sagittarius) and of Venus (Libra). Benefic aspectsof Jupiter and Venus strengthen the Bhava but Saturn’saspect imposes constraint. Unless the radical chart is verystrong, break in education or a mediocre or delayededucation may be the outcome. Because of enmitybetween Bhava lord Mars and Mercury, karaka forlearning, the kind of education may not be much useful inlife. Saturn’s aspect on the 4th and also on the 3rd (fromCapricorn) results in mental dishonesty as a basic trait. But considering the benefic aspects from Jupiter andVenus the vice could be turned into a virtue as it happens.in the event of the native taking to diplomatic career. AsMars and the Moon, significator (karaka) for mother, happen to be friends, a respectable woman as motherand mutual affection are seen. As the 4th lord Mars isalso karaka for house and landed property, the Bhavaremains neutral giving free play to radical planetarypowers. The keynote of the 4th Bhava is some constraintwith regard to educational things, favourable dispositiontowards things concerning mother and neutrality or non-interference in”; respect of things concerning house, etc.

Venus is the lord of the 4th Bhava (Taurus) for AquariusAscendant. Mars (Scorpio) aspects the Bhava. This is apositive contribution towards acquisition of landed property.Venus the 4th lord and .Mercury, karaka for learning, arefriends. The Bhava can nourish planetary potency with

regard to learning and produce great men of learning. Evenwhen they are deprived of college education they possessthe inherent talent and inbuilt opportunity to acquireknowledge. Venus the 4th lord and the Moon, karaka formother, are enemies though both are benefics. The Bhavaimposes some kind of constraint with regard to thingsconcerning mother. Though the native will have anexcellent lady as mother, there is an element of separationor hostility between them. This condition may prove adecisive factor while judging the results of radical chartwith regard to native’s relation to mother. Early death, separation due to adoption or separation between parents, misunderstanding of a direct nature or any other modecould be the ultimate outcome. Thus we see the keynotehere is on severe constraint with regard to signification ofmother, excellent disposition for promotion of learning, andequally favourable condition for acquisition of landedproperty.

The object of highlighting this method of viewing theplacement of Bhava under the zodiac is to emphasise thefact that there is fundamentally a difference in the basicstructure of each Bhava with reference to people born indifferent Rasis (signs). While the general trend in all thecases of people born under the same sign as Lagna willbe the same, this would serve as sruti set to the raga inits rendering. It gives the sense of direction to theinvestigations into the meaning of horoscope.

It is of course the Bhava lord that gives direct clue as tothe kind of results that will manifest in life. Henceascertaining the strength and nature of the Bhava lordassumes utmost importance in judging Bhava results. There is enough literature on this subject. The most usefuland exhaustive amongst them is the book byDR. B. V. RAMAN HOW to Judge a Horoscope whichimparts the technique in a masterly manner. But what ishappening in actual practice is that basic instructions aredone away with as inconsequential. With the result onegenerally slides into confusion getting mixed up and beingunable to differentiate clearly between what constitutesstrength and how it is distinct depending upon the planetbeing benefic and malefic. Very often what is attributedas strength of a planet is interpreted as benefic natureand where it is implied as weakness it is taken as malefic.A planet may gain additional strength by virtue of certainplacement and yet it may remain malefic in nature. It wouldthen be a strong malefic capable of causing more harm.Similarly a benefic planet may lose some of its strengthwhen it finds itself unable to act. It would then be a weakbenefic and its results though good would only trickle indrops. And of course one should also bear in mind that a

natural malefic would not shed all its malefic nature byvirtue of becoming benefic by its placement in the chart;nor does a natural benefic lose all its inherent beneficnature.when adversely posited.

When in doubt or when the issue is seemingly drifting intoconfusion, it is rewarding to go directly to the basic rulesand ‘seek the answer. In the context of examining Bhavalords the following directives culled from classical textscould serve as valid check-list:

1. Lords of Bhavas 1, 2, 4, 5, 1, 9, 10 and 11 are to beconsidered as benefic and would give benefic results.Lords of Bhavas 3, 6,8 and 12 are malefics and theresults they give are generally misery, troubles andunhappiness.

2. A Bhava lord gives results in good measure when itoccupies the 1st, .the 2nd, the 4th, the 5th, the 7th,the 9th, the 10th or the 11th signs counted from theBhava sign.

3. A Bhava lord gets additional strength to bestow itsresults when it occupies kendra (angular) or kona(trinal) signs and also the 11th sign from Lagna.

4. The strength of Bhava lord gets further enhanced ifthe lord of the sign in which Bhava lord happens tobe posited, occupies a kendra or kona and also the11th sign from that of Bhava lord, or from Lagna.

The Bhava results would be maximum when all the aboveconditions are fully met. While it would make an idealcondition, actually it is rarely feasible. The quantum ofresults, therefore, will have to be deduced to the extentthese conditions are met.

Lords of Bhavas 3, 6, 8 and 12 give results of their Bhavaswhich happen to be misery and unhappiness. Hence theywill give these results in greater measure when theyoccupy kendra, kona or a similar position either from theBhava sign or from Lagna. Because of this, it is desirablethat they occupy signs other than kendra or kona whichwould then weaken them and consequently restrict thequantum of bad results. They should preferably occupythe 3rd, the 6th, the 8th, or the 12th signs from the Bhavasign and from Lagna as well.

The rule says that a Bhava lord gets strength when placedin a kendra or kona from Lagna. It should be noted herethat by such a placement, the nature of results will not bemodified. It only gets added strength to give its scheduledresults. The 6th lord for instance would give results of the6th Bhava, namely illness, debts and enemies by severalfold when it occupies a kendra or kona position asdescribed above. Similarly, the 9th lord gives results of

the 9th Bhava which is of a benefic kind. Though the 9thlofd may be placed in a kendra; but when that kendrahappens to be the 4th kendra, it becomes the 8th signfrom the 9th Bhava. This is a bad placement for a Bhavalord and hence its results get considerably reduced, butcontinue to be benefic.

Although life is a many-splendoured thing, it is seen thatin the final analysis each major aspect of life has within itcertain nuclei around which groups of activities buildthemselves. It is these nucleus centres that set the trendand shape the life pattern. In astrological parlance thesenuclei are identified and systematically classified askarakatwas (significations). The planets that have theclosest affinity to specific karakatwas by virtue of theirqualities are identified as karaka planets. For readyreference, karaka planets (significators) or differentkarakatwas connected with each Bhava is listedhereunder :

The 1st Bhava: The Sun for vigour; the Moon for body.

The 2nd Bhava: Jupiter for wealth ; Mercury for speech;Venus for family (kutumba).

The 3rd Bhava : Mars for brothers and also courage;Saturn for misery.

The 4th Bhava: The Moon for mother; Mercury forlearning; Venus for conveyance; Mars for property.

The 5th Bhava: Jupiter for children; Mercury forintelligence.

The 6th Bhava: Mars for enemies: Saturn for illness andsorrow.

The 7th Bhava: Venus for wife ; Mars for sex vigour.

The 8th Bhava: Saturn for longevity; also for mental andphysical suffering and pain.

The 9th Bhava: Jupiter for teacher ; the Sun for father.

The 10th Bhava: The Sun for power and position; Saturnfor service and livelihood; Jupiter for fortune.

The 11th Bhava : Jupiter for gains ; and also elder brother.

The 12th Bhava: Saturn for sorrow; Mars for confinement;Venus for material desires; Jupiter for gnana; Ketu formoksha (emancipation).

For purposes of examining the effects of karaka planets, the same guidelines as given for Bhava lords could beconveniently used with few exceptions. While the positionof a Bhava lord in the Bhava itself would enhance itsresults, the position of a karaka planet in its Bhava is notvery conducive for the signification to flourish. Saturn as

karaka for longevity occupying the 8th Bhava is anexception and as such this position is good for longevity.Relationship between Bhava lord and karaka planet needsto be given careful consideration, as it can change thecomplexion of the results considerably.

A methodical scrutiny of Bhava, Bhava lord and Karakaplanet within the framework of guideline discussed aboveis expected to reveal the Bhava results sufficiently clearto arrive at realistic predictions. And yet, judgment ofBhava results cannot be said to be complete withoutascertaining the combined inherent strength or weaknessof the Bhava. In a way this amounts to the residual strengthafter making allowances to reductions and contributions fromall the concerned forces. The true protency of a Bhava isascertained from Jeewa and Sareera of the Bhava and ofeach significations (kara-katwas).

Jeeva: The sign in which a Bhava lord is posited is Jeevasign for that Bhava and its lord is Jeeva.

Sareera : For each Bhava there is Bhavatbhava sign. Thisis obtained by counting as many signs from the Bhava asthe number of Bhava denotes. Bhavat-bhava sign for the4th Bhava would be the 4th sign counted from the 4thBhava, which happens to be. the 7th Bhava. The sign inwhich the lord of Bhavatbhava is posited becomes Sareerasign and its lord Sareera for the Bhava.

Once Jeeva and Sarira are ascertained, the method ofexamining their strength and nature would follow the samepattern as that of Bhava lord or karaka planet. If Jeevaand Sareera are found strong and both be benefics andfriends and Jeeva and Sareera signs also happen to bebenefic Bhavas, then the results of the Bhava wouldflourish, even if the Bhava is found apparently weak inthe light of other considerations. On the other hand, aBhava that is found strong and benefic may not produceresults as anticipated, if Jeeva and Sareera of that Bhavahappen to be weak, malefic and inimical and Jeeva andSareera signs turn out to be bad houses. Opposite resultscould be the outcome of such a situation.

Utility of the Jeeva and Sareera method is most when itcomes to in-depth analysis. A Bhava denotes a number ofvaried aspects of life within its fold. For instance the 4thBhava concerns with such unrelated aspects of life asmother, learning, conveyance and landed property. Whenthe 4th Bhava is afflicted, being weak and malefic, howdo we go about ascertaining which one of the abovesignifications is going to be affected and to what extent. It is not simply conceivable that all the four things wouldbe equally affected. It does not happen in real life. A

person may lose his mother in childhood but grow into alearned man. A native may suffer break in education butenjoy in good measure facilities of conveyance and ownlanded property. Whereas, one would get sufficient insightto judge the manner in which each of the significationswould be affected, when Jeeva and Sareera for them isascertained individually.

For a more candid appreciation of the method and itsapplication, the technique is illustrated with an example:

Rasi

Rahu

Ascendant

Ketu

The significations (karakatwas) covered in the 4th Bhavaare (l) mother, (2) learning, (3) conveyance and (4) landedproperty. Hence we proceed to ascertain Jeeva andSareera for each of them and judge their results. 1. MatruBhata (mother): This being the main signification of the4th Bhava, Jeeva and Sareera of the 4th Bhava itself wouldthrow light on this signification. Dispositor of the 4th lordis Jeeva. Venus, lord of the 4th, is in Leo and hence theSun, its lord, is Jeeva and Leo is Jeeva sign. Dispositor ofBhavat-bhava lord is Sareera. Bhavat-bhava for the 4this the 7th house and its lord the Sun i6 in Cancer. Hencethe Moon is Sareera and Cancer is Sareera sign. Jeeva(the Sun) is posited in a bad house, the 6th from Lagna. Itis a bad house, the 3rd from the Bhava sign. It is badhouse, the 3rd from the Moon, karaka for mother and alsoSareera for the 4th Bhava. The Sareera sign (Cancer) isthe 6th from Lagna, a bad house and the 3rd from Bhava,a bad house. Signification of mother suffers very badly.Death of mother in early childhood is amply clear.

Learning: The 4th sign from karaka for Vidya (learning)is the base to ascertain Jeeva for Vidya Bhava. Mercurybeing in Leo, the 4th from it Scorpio becomes the VidyaBhava or the base for our working. Dispositor of VidyaBhava lord (Mars in this instance) is Jeeva for VidyaBhava. As Mars is in Leo, its lord the Sun becomes Jeevafor Vidya and Leo becomes the Jeeva sign. As the 2ndBhava; is equally concerned with education, the positionof the 2nd lord becomes the base to ascertain Sareera.Bhavatbhava from the 2nd lord Jupiter’s position (the 4signs from Scorpio) is Aquarius. accordingly is Saturn and the sign in which Saturn is positedis Sareera sign for Vidya. As Saturn is in Taurus, it isSareera sign and its lord Venus is Sareera for learning.Since both Jeeva and Sareera signs namely Leo and Taurusare in kendra (angle) to Lagna and also in mutual kendra, they attain strength. They are also benefic houses. Asthe 4th Bhava and its Sareera sign are identical and Jeevasign is also in kendra to Bhava, the position is impregnableand strong. Venus, Sareera for Vidya, is a benefic, bothnatural as well as by virtue of his ownership of Bhavas. He is posited in kendra to Bhava and in Jeeva sign to bootwith. The only fly in the ointment, as the saying goes, isthe position of Jeeva (the Sun) in the bad 6th house fromLagna and the 3rd from Bhava. The picture is so clearthat even the beginner of a student can see thatthe nativewould attain a very high level of learning to be recognisedas genius. Because of adverse position of Jeeva, earlyimpediments but of surmountable kind could result.

House: Mars being karaka for landed property, dispositorof the 4th lord from Mars is Jeeva for signification ofproperty. Mars being in Leo, the 4th from it would beScorpio the lord of which is Mars again. Dispositor ofMars is the Sun who is Jeeva. Dispositor of the 4th Bhavalord is Sareera. Venus being the 4th Bhava lord his

dispositor is once again] the Sun and Leo is Sareera sign. Both Jeeva and Sareera signs being the same and in kendrato Lagna as well as to Bhava, they are strong. However,Jeeva’and Sareera lord the Sun is in the 6th from Lagnaand hence weak. As Jeeva and Sareera sign happens tobe the 7th Bhava, the acquisition of landed property isclosely associated with the wife of the native. Becauseof weakness of Jeeva and Sareera lords, only moderateownership is seen and not estates and a chain of buildings.

Under the spotlight of Jeeva and Sareera, intricate circuitsof planetary potency in’each Bhava reveal themselveswith amazing clarity. This facilitates to link: unerringly thespecific things of life denoted in Bhava with the planetaryforces influencing them and to arrive at not only morerealistic predictions but also in greater detail. This of courseentails investment of time and labour in analysing the chartin such greater detail. In the context of present-day trendof snap judgment based on slipshod techniques, one cannotbut reflect that had it been feasible to have a really short-cut way to judging horoscopes, our ancient sages wouldnot have taken such enormous pains to evolve advancedtechniques of the kind of Jeeva and Sareera. There is noalternative to methodical analysis of each Bhava in judginghoroscopes. (FOR)

a combination that is rarely found in a horoscope - due towhich the native was fond of art culture, literature and ishandsome looking. When all the three planets were inaction in Saturn bhukti, the native experienced strongaffection towards many females but always maintained adistance.

He did not make up his mind to marry because of his poorfinancial conditions. He was unable to get financially strongin Venus Mahadasa. In July 2006 Sun Mahadasa began.Sun is exalted in the 2nd but as 6th lord. In April 2009. Thenative was in police custody for a night resulting from aquarrel overy property matters. This was the Jupiter minorperiod in Sun major. As of date, the native remainsunmarried and financially weak (in spite of his having the

Bheri Yoga). This scribe feels with Moon mahadasabeginning in July 2012 with Moon, as 5th lord, in Revatinakshatra and with several Raja yogas, benefic resultsare possible. Readers of this prestigious magazine canwrite (email) to the Chief Editor, if the native will marry inMoon mahadasa or later or will remain a bachelor forlife.

Vydhruti and Vyatipatapunyakaala are observed on the day when the yogas prevail for 1½ hours or more, when Sraddha is performed by theastute. These two belong to the shannavati -96- Sraddhas ordained for a householder. Considering the astronomicalimplications, the Sayana Vydhruti and Vyatipata days are also indicated in the Panchanga. The auspicious Amritayoga andSiddhayoga and inauspicious Maranayoga and Prabalarishtayoga come under Amirtaadiyoga scheme and are differentfrom the Nityayogas.

The Karana is the half of the Tithi. They are mainly classified as Sthira - fixed or immovable and Chara or moveable. TheChara Karanas are seven in number and the Sthira are only four.
