Generally, moon is taken as ascendant for transitory effects. This may not give the correct result. One has to go by the powerful of the following – ascendant lord, atmakaraka planet, sun and moon. It is always advisable to make a study from atmakaraka planet along with the powerful planet amongst the other three. The transitory effects also depend upon the strength and nature of the planet in the natal chart. The study of transit can be used only to supplement the interpretation on the study of dasha and bukti and should not be used as the main tool to identify an event. There is tedious but accurate procedure for timing of an event called ‘saham’. It is point in a horoscope, calculated based on the longitude of various planets and houses. To cite an example, to find one’s punya, deduct sun’s longitude from the moon and add the longitude of the ascendant. If the figure arrived is strong, punya is more. The placement of the lord of saham is also important. If it is placed in 6, 8 or 12th houses, one’s experience will be bad. However there are only 50 sahams available in ancient scriptures. In general, it is better to make a prediction after studying all the planets and all the houses in the natal chart. The placement of dasa lord in other divisional charts is also to be studied. One has to study the holder of the dasa lord and its sub lord. The placement of the dasa lord and its aspects are also to be considered. But if transit and dasa period give contradictory results and if the dasa lord is powerful in shad bala, well placed and well aspected one can ignore the effects of transit. If the dasa lord is debilitated and ill placed, then study of transit is important. In such cases effect of transit should be studied from Sun and atmakaraka planet as well. As a general rule planets that are powerful, well placed and well aspected do not cause difficulties during transits. To offset any affliction on the dasa lord or if dasa lord is ill placed, certain remedies have to be performed. The best remedy is to chant mantras of the dasa lord and the planets afflicting them. Each planet has its own bija and if these bijas are recited along with atma bija and certain other bijas depending upon other afflictions in a horoscope, the ill effects can be gotten over effectively. Poor feeding and animal feeding will supplement the effects of the mantras. MANTRA FOR YOU Spiritual advancement in most of us is not to the expected level because we pray to too many deities with too many mantras and slokas. For example for education we go to one deity, to get relief from health issues we go to another deity, for marriage to some other deity. The net result is that we lose focus on all the deities. This custom is more predominant in the case of planetary afflictions in horoscopes. All the horoscopes will have some affliction or other. Your karmas are reflected in horoscope. Only certain afflictions of the planets can be removed by remedial measures. Though simple and inexpensive remedies are available, people resort to remedies by spending money beyond their capacities. Ultimately, the desired result is not achieved. There is a concept called Ishta Devata or the form of a deity that you like most. This deity can be identified from a horoscope based on ‘atmakaraka’

TIMING AN EVENT THROUGH ASTROLOGY

Identifying a certain event is a horoscope is of utmost importance. There are severalmethods by which an event can be predicted. The most important among them are

dasha and bukthi (main period and sub period) and planetary transits. One need notattach greater importance to transits than dasha and bukthi. planet. This deity helps you to advance spiritually. There is another concept calledDharma Devata. This is also to be identified from atmakaraka planet. The DharmaDevata helps you to achieve your goals and ambitions. But your mind set is moreimportant than identifying your favourite deity from your horoscope. Suppose youhave a liking for Vishnu, irrespective of your horoscope identifying Shiva as your

Ishta Devata or Dharma Devata, you have to worship only Vishnu to get quickresults. If you believe that Vishnu will solve all your problems, He will certainly dothat. You need not run from one place to another to ward off the evil effects ofplanets. The best thing to advance spiritually and also to get rid of any difficulties thatyou may have is to chant a suitable mantra of your Ishta Devata or Dharma Devataor your most loved deity. There are plenty of mantras for all the deities. Most of thesemantras will not fructify, unless some modifications are made in the mantra. Let usassume that your Ishta Devata is Lord Ganesha. His bijakshara is ‘Gam’. Let us alsoassume that in your horoscope Moon and Saturn are afflicted. In order to get rid ofthe evil effects of these two planets, you have to propitiate them. Each planet has itsown bijakshras. We have already discussed about atma bijam in our earlier

postingsfructification of mantras in three parts. Let us assume that your atma bijam is‘vam’. Now a mantra is to be formulated for your exclusive use. All mantras beginwith OM. So the first letter is OM. Second will be your atma bija ‘vam’. Third is yourIshta Devata bija ‘Gam’. Then bijaksharas of afflicted planets are to be added. ForMoon it is ‘som’ and for Saturn it is ‘sham’. Now the mantra will be Om-vam-gam-som-sham. All such mantras should end with ‘namaha’. So this is to be added at theend. But the atma bija ‘vam’ in its original form ‘vam’ may not work well. If amodification is made by adding ‘ram’ and making atma bija as ‘vreem’ the atma bijawill bestow all prosperity. This atma bija is to be placed both at the beginning and atthe end of the mantra. This is called encasing the mantra that gives potency to thewhole mantra. The complete mantra will now be ‘Om-vreem-gam-som-sham-vreem-namaha’. You have to recite this mantra mentally visualizing your Ishta Devata. There are no restrictions on timing of recitation, number of times of recitation, etc.The more you recite, the mantra will have more potency and if infused to your deity, that deity will be with you all the time. Over a period of time you will be chanting thismantra unconsciously. No other remedies are required. You will never facedifficulties in your life, subject to your karmas. Procedures for infusing life andremoving curse to mantras are to be strictly followed. This has been discussed in thepostings referred earlier.

WHY ASTROLOGICAL PREDICTIONS GO WRONGWe find that some of the astrological predictions go wrong. Astrology is a science. Itis a science based on astronomy. While making predictions, a lot of factors are to betaken into account with regard to each planet. In the first place the exact time of birthis to be ascertained. In most of the horoscopes, we can notice the time of birthrounded off to five minutes, for example 09.05 or 9.10 or 9.15 etc. The exact birthtime should be ascertained taking into account lords, sub-lords, sub-sub-lords ofcertain houses with the lord, sub-lord and sub-sub lord of the moon. This will providethe exact time of birth to seconds. Instead of 09.05 you will get 09.06.22 hours.Though, this may not affect the position of the planets in the natal horoscope, whilemaking predictions based on sub-sub lords, this certainly helps. The next point to

consider is the strength of the planets based on shadbala or six fold strength. Theyare positional strength, directional strength, temporal strength, kinetic strength,

natural strength and aspectual strength. Again these six fold strengths have manysub sections. Unless the six fold strength is arrived, it is not possible to makeaccurate predictions. Ishta and kashta phal should be calculated to make predictionsfor dasa period. Ashtavarga should be calculated for all the planets as well as all thehouses. Strength or weakness of a house should also be based on ashtavarga apart

from ascertaining the bhava bala. Bhava bala is to be ascertained by drawing bhavachakra. The placement of planets in a bhava is also important. If a planet is placed inthe bhava madya or centre of the bhava, the planet has more power. Instead, theplanet is placed in a cusp, it loses its power. Then planetary aspects are to be takeninto account to find out whether the aspect is benefic or malefic or neutral. Whilecalculating the aspect, the exact distance is to be taken into account instead of thehouses. All the planets aspect seventh house from where it is placed. Assuming sunis placed in 2.30 degrees in the first house and in the seventh house a planet isplaced at 28.50 degrees, then the power of aspect of sun diminishes on the planetthat is aspected. To further strengthen the predictions based on dasa period, bodhakan, vedakan, pasakan and karakan of the dasa lord and their position are to

be ascertained. The Rahu-Ketu axis should also be taken into account. Apart from allthese factors, there is one more system called Arudhara Lagna or pada. Pada foreach house should be calculated. Each horoscope will have one atma karaka planetdepending on the degree it is placed. While calculating, placement of planets fromLagna, moon, sun, atma karaka planet and the yoga karaka planet of the horoscopeshould be taken into account. Indu lagna and hora lagna should also be calculated. Apart from studying the horoscope from D1 chart (the rasi chart), the placement ofplanets in other vargas to be ascertained. Navamsa D 9 chart should also be studiedalong with the rasi chart. Finally the relationship amongst the planets, transitinfluences, functional nature of the planets, conjunctions, combustion, retrogation, rays of a planet etc to be ascertained before making any prediction. Finally, theeffective yogas are to be taken into account. The list is not complete. Therefore, astudy of horoscope should be taken up with all these calculations. Further, toascertain employment problems, a study of D 10 chart should also be taken up, forspirituality D 5, for spouse D 9 etc. This numeric indicates the division of a house (30degrees) into as many parts as the numeric. In D 10 chart the division is 30/10. Suchdivisions go up to D 150. Normally Charts up to D 60 are used. If all thesecalculations are used while interpreting a horoscope, close to about 80% accuracycan be attained. According to me, 100% accuracy may not be possible.
