Conference Panel Saturday 3 March, 18.00-19.15 BREXIT AND ENERGY: WHICH WAY FORWARD?

This panel, co-hosted by the Green Party and the Green UK MEPs, will explore the future of UK energy policy in view of the huge threat posed by Brexit to the sector as a whole. With the past three years having been the hottest on record and the next Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°c due this year, the UK needs to urgently demonstrate its commitment to a sustainable energy future. Speakers will explore the potential impact of Brexit on energy security, unconventional oil and gas extraction as well as renewable and community energy, examining possible changes to legislation. It will also look at how leaving the EU could affect UK nuclear safety standards and future collaboration with Europe. The event will feature keynote speeches from expert panellists followed by Q&A

11.30-12.45

FRINGE: PLOUGHING A LONE FURROW: OUR FOOD & FARMING IN A BREXIT LANDSCAPE Molly Scott Cato MEP The absence of any clear government plan for the future of our food and farming sectors outside the EU is alarming. The extreme form of Brexit that Theresa May’s government is pushing for could hit our family farmers and small scale food producers particularly hard. This session will be a discussion on the future of food and farming in the UK and how it will help shape our economic, social, environmental and physical landscapes. FRINGE: GETTING IT RIGHT ON THE LEFT: EVIDENCE-BASED POLICY Alexander Price, Milton Keynes Green Party An interactive workshop on developing evidence-based Green policies in a world of alternative facts. Policy focuses would likely be basic income, artificial intelligence and automation, the global financial system and new forms of sustainable production. FRINGE: CREATING A VISION FOR A PROGRESSIVE GOVERNMENT – A CROSS-PARTY ENDEAVOUR Britain’s next Government must be a progressive one. And it can’t be shy. We need to radically break away from almost everything the Tory Government stands for. This challenge is too big, too important for one party to have all the answers. This is why we’re inviting progressives from all parties and none to start thinking, working, dreaming together, to craft a shared vision for a better future – a vision that sets the direction for a plural, progressive Government. We call it the Common Platform. This session is hosted by Neal Lawson of Compass with the participation of Siân Berry. www.compassonline.org.uk FRINGE: GREENS TACKLING ROUGH SLEEPING AND HOMELESSNESS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL Association of Green Councillors Come and hear examples of action, challenges and successes from Green Councillors across the country. 18.00-19.15 PANEL: BREXIT AND ENERGY: WHICH WAY FORWARD? (SEE P4) FRINGE: WHY UNDERSTANDING SOCIAL INEQUALITY IS ESSENTIAL TO EFFECTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION Clare Phipps, Green Party Women Secretary This session takes real life examples to explore the inseparable relationship between social inequalities and protecting our environment. From feminism, racism, income and international inequality to our treatment of older and disabled people in our communities, speakers with experience in each field will help us learn why we cannot protect the planet without protecting the rights of each other. FRINGE: WHAT IS THE GREEN PARTY OF THE FUTURE? GREEN PARTY HOLISTIC REVIEW At Autumn Conference 2017, it was voted to establish a Green Party Commission, with the task of reviewing how the Green Party is structured and governed. In this session you can meet members of the Commission and input into the holistic review, in preparation for our proposals being returned to Autumn Conference 2018. MEMBERS ONLY FRINGE: ACTIVE LISTENING TO FACE CLIMATE CHANGE FEARS Caroline New, Bristol Green Party In the Green Party we are not immune to a version of climate change denial, in that global warming is so scary that many of us prefer to focus elsewhere. Yet if we can't think about it well, how can we give a lead and sustain our activism? In this session we'll use peer listening to face fears and find hope. The aim is to stop being alone with it, and to reclaim the stuck bits of our capacity to think: separately and collectively. MEETING: DISABILITY POLICY WORKING GROUP

A face to face opportunity for the group to meet open to Green Party members and invited non-members. All welcome. For more information contact: Paul Weaver, [email protected] MEETING: YOUNG GREENS Open to Young Greens. For more information contact: Hannah Graham, [email protected]

13.30-14.45 FRINGE: ARTICLE 25 AND UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME

Share the World's Resources will put forward a case for Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – for adequate food, housing, healthcare and social security for all – to be made fundamental law around the world in order to pave the way for a truly Universal Basic Income to be successfully implemented. We suggest this can only come about through the massed goodwill of ordinary people calling for Article 25 through enormous, peaceful and continuous worldwide protests, thereby laying a firm foundation upon which Basic Income can become a lasting reality. Presentation and discussion. www.sharing.org FRINGE: BREATHING CITIES CAMPAIGN ACTION WORKSHOP: LET’S CLEAN OUR AIR Camilla Zerr, Climate Change Campaign Officer This session will consist of a short presentation on the progress of the Green Party’s clean air campaign Breathing Cities, after which participants will be invited to brainstorm in small groups on bold and creative action ideas to make our cities clean, healthy and friendly: cities we can breathe in. FRINGE: COP23, COP24 AND HOW TO CHALLENGE ‘TURBO-COAL’ Green Party Trade Union Group CoP23 talks 2017 proposed no effective action to combat climate change, the US government has withdrawn from the Paris Climate accord and CoP24 is Katowice in the heart of Poland’s coal mining region. FRINGE: ASYLUM AND MIGRATION - WHAT MEMBERS WANT TO SEE IN AN UPDATED POLICY Mick Gregg, Leicester Green Party, Member of Policy Development Committee This is intended to open up debate, and encourage participation from members, in being informed and thinking about our response to asylum and migration. The session will commence with a quick guide to the present system and our party's policy framework. We will then want to open up debate of parameters of a developed policy. Ultimately the session is to inform a process of updating Party policy regarding asylum and migration from outside of the European Union (and adaptable in the event that the UK leaves the Union). It is envisaged that this fringe session will lead to the launch of a new Policy Working Group. TRAINING: PROJECT MANAGING YOUR ELECTION CAMPAIGN Chris Williams/Cami Ouzerdine – Green Party Regional Managers This training session, aimed at local Campaign Organisers, covers the essentials you’ll need to run a top notch short campaign.
