Data Protection on Permission Slips: Please note that due to the new data protection rules the permission slips will now read differently and no personal information needs to be given unless the details are different to those that we already hold in school. If this is the case we would ask you to provide the new details in writing or on email. Primary 4-7 STEM Visit to Oban High School: This was an extremely worthwhile visit for our pupils and staff. On arrival we were treated to a tour of the new school building guided by some high school pupils who also happily answered questions. After the tour we met with Deputy Head and science teacher, Kevin Champion, who took us to the Design and Technology department where Mr Dott and Mr Walker gave the pupils a go at using Autodesk Inventor which is a computer-aided design application for 3D mechanical design. The aim of the task was to give the pupils a taste of the design process from 2D to 3D images and shapes. The pupils took along their boat designs and 2D computer drawings to show Mr Champion and Mr Dott, who were very impressed with work already done. Such was their enthusiasm – the High School teachers arranged to come out to school today (Friday) to continue working with the pupils! We would like to extend our thanks to the staff and pupils at Oban High School who made us feel very welcome. Some pupil’s comments about the visit: I liked making the 2D and 3D shapes on the computer. (Jenny) I enjoyed learning about the new High School and getting a tour. (Eva, Roan, Max and Daisy) I enjoyed seeing the dance studio. (Erin) I liked the tour of the High School. I am looking forward to doing music. (Evayne) I thought tech was good fun. (Marsaili) I learned how to draw on the computer. (Eve) I learned how to draw shapes and make an iPod nano. (Charlie) I liked learning how to do digital drawing on the PCs. (James)

Primary 1-3 News: Primary 1-3 had a busy week of learning, linking in journey planning to their maths. They had to plan a journey out and had to give directions to their partner, turning left/right/forward a number of steps/turning 180 degrees etc. This was done on a chalk board outside.

They also had fun learning new French phrases, under/on/beside/behind/in front/ next to/ left and right in French. They practised their understanding outside in the warm weather on old tables we found in the shed.

On Tuesday we had Stuart, our local policeman, visit and he gave a talk about his job and all of us being responsible citizens. Arden coped very well being in handcuffs for most of Stuart’s talk!

We had Gaelic fun on Wednesday with Duncan MacNeill doing a Gaelic Bookbug session with the nursery and P1-3 children.

This photo shows us making our tasty Seaweed and Wild Garlic Bread the class. It was very tasty and most children were adventurous in trying this – well done!

We had another successful cycle to the beach on Wednesday afternoon. The children enjoyed their splash in the sea and the purpose of the visit was to collect sea water as we will be trying an experiment to change salt water into drinking water. This has developed from discussions about what happens to countries that don’t get enough rain?

Esme and Ross were so keen to read that when we stopped for a break they took out their books to have a read!

On Thursday it was wonderful to have Courtney’s mum and little sister visit the school. The children learned about how to look after older babies. The children were very good at listening and all understood the importance of play, talking, singing, keeping a baby safe, feeding, washing and getting enough sleep which every baby/child needs. Thank you Danielle and Rhianna for an informative and lovely visit.

Busy Bee: Please find attached an invitation for our Busy Bee on 9th June. The children worked hard to put together these letters, learning about how to set a letter out correctly and also enhancing their ICT skills with photography and placing photos on a Word document.

Nursery News: This week in Nursery has been busy, we have had a special visit from our local community Police Officer, Stuart. We got a special look around the police car and got to hear the siren. As it has been lovely and sunny this week we have had fun outside in the pitch playing with pompoms to make up a funny dance.

We were using water and paintbrushes to paint pictures of different types of transport on the slabs outside the Nursery and watching the water dry quickly as the slabs were hot.

We managed to get a look around the bin lorry as well on Tuesday and saw that it had 6 wheels.
